Strict binaries

Posted by Robin on 30 April 2019 7 Comments

Despite evolving conversations around gender fluidity, fragrance is the one space that continues to be defined by strict binaries of feminine and masculine. Florals and delicate smells traditionally have been assigned as feminine, while stronger and muskier scents as masculine.

An uneven distribution of fragrance

Posted by Robin on 29 April 2019 4 Comments

This is less efficient than concocting a big vat of unscented wax, machine-pouring all the candles, then injecting each with a fragrance, as is customary at most candle factories. But the injection method results in an uneven distribution of fragrance throughout the wax, and often leaves the bottom half of the candle completely unscented.
