Dawn Spencer Hurwitz MaccaBees ~ new fragrance

Posted by Robin on 25 November 2019 10 Comments

Indie perfume house Dawn Spencer Hurwitz has launched MaccaBees :: a Hanukkah scent {Holiday no.19}. (see also no. 18: Urban Moonshine and no. 17: Châtaignes du Bois)

A rich beeswax scent with notes of honey, immortelle, warm resins (to imply the lighted oil effect), and soft smoke note that adds depth and solemnity to the fragrance. Some might say it’s a not-so-sweet, slightly burnt honey perfume.

[...] It was during the Maccabean Revolt that the re-dedication of the Temple, the lighting of the Menorah, and the ‘miracle of the oil’ occurred. As fitting with the mythology of ‘light overcoming the darkness’ at this time of year, MaccaBees is as luminous as it is dark with elements of smoke, rich oil, and beeswax (and touches of honey). Within it there is comfort, safety, and a deep sense of home.

MaccaBees celebrates the candles, and the oil, that have illuminated our world for thousands of years, as well as the light and warmth within us that they represent. (And I have to admit, candles have always been my favorite part of Holiday Season rituals, I’m truly delighted to share this scent with you!)

Dawn Spencer Hurwitz MaccaBees is available in a variety of concentrations, sizes and formats, for more information see the website.

Sounds lovely! I love the smell of honey, even in perfume.

It does sound great, and generally speaking her holiday perfumes have been really nice.

I am waiting for the sale and then I’ll place an epic order. I missed it the last several years as I got overwhelmed with the choices.

The overwhelming number of choices is my issue, too. But I do really want this. When does she have her sales? Are they VIP-only?

I’ve never tried DSH somehow and I think now may be the time. It looks like her samples ship internationally for about $15 as far as samples go, so that’s not as bad as it could be. What are all of your favorites? Any sample packs that are especially good? I’m leaning towards the Animalics one…
