Le Labo Tabac 28 & Bigarade 18 ~ new fragrances

Posted by Robin on 15 August 2019 19 Comments

Le Labo is introducing Tabac 28 and Bigarade 18, the new city-exclusive fragrances for Miami and Hong Kong respectively.

Tabac 28 ~ "Sometimes a cigar is just a cigar... And sometimes, it becomes a perfume! Smoky, seductive, alluring – Tabac 28 is Miami in a bottle. Deeply aromatic tobacco absolute (picture a Cuban Havana distilled) combined with opulent oud and a striking cedarwood-blend creating a smooth, smoldering, feel. Gaiac wood and rum give the fragrance an intoxicating warmth rounded with green cardamom. The whole thing is alive, vibrant, sensual - decadent even! And it brings to Wynwood another colorful graffiti…..but this one for your nostrils only."

Bigarade 18 (shown) ~ "Bigarade 18 is a paradox in a bottle. Reminiscent of an old-school classic, yet also of the modern time… Complex yet simple – you take the best bergamot and neroli petals, and mix it with the best musk and synthetic ambergris, add a drop or two of cedarwood – et voila! The result is a tension between the classical smell of citrus, and the warm transgressive hum of cedarwood’s dark notes, like a tug-of-war with no clear winner. We dedicate this perfume to Hong Kong, the fragrant bay of old and new, rich with memories of the classic sweet smells of white florals and citruses, amidst a playground of discovery and grandeur."

Le Labo Tabac 28 and Bigarade 18, along with the brand's other city-exclusives, are available worldwide every September. The rest of the year they are available only in their respective cities. They are sold in 15, 50, 100 and 500 ml.

    Hmmm. Cedarwood is transgressive?

      Seriously, cedar, behave 😉

At least it’s not disruptive, which I think is currently the single most misused word in perfumespeak.

Or divisive. Wouldn’t want a divisive hum. Just sayin’.

Weird, coincidental timing of “tug-of-war with no clear winner” to describe Hong Kong. More true now than when presumably the copy was originally drafted.

A lot of folks at NST aren’t thrilled with Le Labo, but I like quite a number of their scents. Will look forward to testing these . . . errr when I am next in Miami and Hong Kong? Oh well.

I do not find them dependable, for lack of a better word, or affordable, but I like quite a few as well.

And I have managed to get discounted decants and travel-sizes at reasonable prices, which is part of why I think I don’t find them as annoying as some people do.

Please find me a bargain travel size of Tubereuse 40, LOL…$128 is just comical.

Even the $82 for 15 ml of Bergamote 22 (or Lys 41) strikes me as crazy.

I think they sell the city exclusives everywhere at their shops in September, don’t they?

The city exclusives will also be coming to some Nordstrom stores… I know that King of Prussia will be seeing them.

            Yes, every September.

Ughh. “Disruptive” is overused in more than just perfumeland. Another word I’m really done with: “curated”. I’ll allow its use when discussing museums and art galleries, otherwise I’m rolling my eyes.

Kind of unfortunate they chose Hong Kong, with all the current political turmoil there.

I think they have 2 locations there. Presumably there could be unrest in any of the cities they’ve expanded into…

And maybe it’ll have transgressive fir or pine notes.

I smelled the Tabac on a strip yesterday. Not worth double the standard price.
