Wednesday scent of the day 7/24

Posted by Robin on 24 July 2019 259 Comments

Hump Day and Tequila Day. What fragrance are you wearing?

I'm in Lush 25:43 for a perfect July morning: at the moment it's sunny and 73F.

Reminder: on 7/26 we're doing Gone In Sixty Seconds...wear the shortest-lived fragrance you own. Bonus points for reapplying all day long. Suggested by pyramus.

And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2019, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

I’m smelling of summer meadows in Foin Fraîchement Coupé by Oriza L. Legrand. It’s very hot in the Netherlands but I’m at work with AC so I’m good.

I heard you guys were getting a heat wave. My brother in law and his family live there..

Yes, it’s very hot, but fortunately it looks like we will get some thunderstorms this weekend and it will be a bit more bearable afterwards.

Where abouts do you in laws live? (if you are willing to share of course)

I just get terribly grumpy in hot weather, which I don’t mind but is less than ideal for the people around me. I try to behave as well as I can, mind you 😉

I just read they’ve registered records-shattering temps in Gilze Rijen.

I need to go to Amsterdam this evening but our railroadsystem is a huge mess right now….so many ‘accidents’ with persons involved (suicides?)
My husband has offered to pick me up but thats at least an hour roundtrip for him, so I am still hoping for the trains to ride again soon.

Yep there is one suicide between Utrecht and Amsterdam, plus I guess they are having trouble with the heat and the rails.
Good luck on getting to Amsterdam. I’m only a cycle ride away from home 🙂

I remember hearing someone complaining in the Paris metro after an « accident » shutting down the service, « Why can’t they throw themselves in the Seine? »

It’s a problem everywhere I guess. We have basically no public rail transportation in California so people jump off bridges.

In my country these railway tragedies are called accident involving a person.
Your bridge comment reminded me of Der Himmel über Berlin.

Auphorie L’Anima Della Rosa…this is an extrait and what a powerhouse! Rose and fruits and dries down to a gourmandish animalic on my skin and to my nose. Very interesting to say the least.

And the opinions of Fragrantica’s users on longevity vary too. The votes are split more or less evenly between poor, weak, moderate, long lasting and very long lasting. Funny.

I put on an unmarked dabber yesterday that I believe was the newest Musc from Atelier, it was a powerhouse in the best way.
What a surprise, I really liked it, it had some smokiness to it (clary sage i think) and it was that perfect sweetness, like Muac Raveger but without the powder-ish part.
I need another official sample to confirm. I don’t really know much about musc specifically and
I don’t wear many musc forward fragrances. This one i really enjoyed.
          I would wear it regularly!

Lonesome Rider today. I’ve been feeling a little overloaded by vintage lately… they are wonderful, but I also think I’ve tended to explore them more because they are cheaper, and these days I’m wanting to winnow my focus to true loves and things that really blow me away.

Yes there was always an EDT and the oil version. Now i think there is also a body spray. It was 30 percent off during prime day. I sat on my hands to not buy it…I succeeded! LOL! I also sat on my hands not to buy the three Berdoues that I don’t have during the Twisted Lily sale-LOL! I have pl67 to thank for talking me out of purchasing them!!!!

From what I remember when it first came out it was New Musk Oil and New Musk EDT. Don’t know about cologne. However, the body spray is something new. I will pop over to the Dame website to investigate.

You are right!!! There is now the EDT for 75 dollars and the Cologne for 65 dollars. I think the EDT is geared toward women and the cologne towards men. Dame used to charge the same price 65 dollars for both the mens colognes and the EDT for women but now he has upped the prices of the EDT for women. Honestly I don’t know the difference between the musk cologne or the musk edt. maybe they are the same?

SOTD is Eau de Neroli Dore – this one goes poof within a couple of hours (but is pure happiness while it lasts), so definitely fits the CP brief!

I’m about 3 months into growing out a pixie cut, and am going in for a trim and a re-shape later today. Really can’t wait. I’m in that awkward, mushroom-head phase where it’s getting flat on top and poofy on the sides. Sigh.

Good luck with your hair cut.
I have been trying to grow my hair long(er) and I feel that it gets to a certain point and then it doesn’t want to grow…
My hair is also dry, I wonder if that is inhibiting its growth.

I have been trying to grow out my pixie cut for 18 months. It’s barely at my shoulders and I still have pieces in the front that are only down to my ears. It’s a long, unattractive process. I’m hoping to get it shaped in October into a real hairstyle that I can put up.

The struggle is real! I’m only trying to get mine to chin-length, so hopefully the process for me will be less long (but still unattractive, lol). I’ve had a pixie cut for most of the last 10 years and I forgot what it was like to have hair that I can actually tuck behind my ears or (maybe someday) wear in a ponytail.

    Smells like heaven 🙂

I read on his instagram he sold his last bottle. He will not make another batch as far as i know.
Alas, not sold to me. So expensive (i do have a small decant though).
And now that I am without a job, I have no money for that kind of extravagant purchases. But strangely I dont mind this situation at all. I have acquired loads of samples and beautiful bottles last few years and at the moment I do not need much more.
But (there is always an exception right?)
I am really going to sample Papillon’s new fragrance though, has anyone here tried it already? What’s it like?

I am awash in the scents of summer– Arquiste’s Sydney Rock Pool on my left wrist, and Nicolai’s Week-end in Normandy on my right. They share a lot in how they “feel”, which admittedly is a pretty imprecise thing to say about a scent. So I was surprised to discover how little they share in notes–although perhaps in actual chemistry they share more? Who knows.

Random observation: Shot in the Dark would make a good perfume name! Notes of rose, spanish broom, orange flower, gunpowder, and musk?

Still doing Beach Week here. Yesterday I did a competition between Smell Bent St Tropez Dispenser and St Tropez Gold. I was sure that Gold would win but Dispenser is a sledgehammer so I could barely smell Gold. lol. Today (after I go for a swim) I’ll try Smell Bent Bad Guy vs Gold. Or maybe I’ll have mercy on Gold and just give it its own time tomorrow, poor quiet baby.

Hi there, friends, I haven’t been on NST nearly as much as I’d like lately. I smell wonderful in Mitzah today, because I’m really stressed out and need some high-quality comforting.

    And.

    WE BOUGHT A HOUSE.

Ahhhhhhhh!!!!!!! Put in an offer late last night about 4 min before the seller’s other offer was set to expire. It’s been quite a whirlwind and the tiniest bit hasty but I fell so deeply in love with this place, and it’s practically affordable for the Bay Area. So yeah. Soon we will be homeowners! With all the attendant joys and miseries.

My brain is in a tizzy and working is difficult today 🙂

Thanks! It’s in Mountain View, about 1.5 mi from where we live right now 🙂 Actually it’s about 0.5 mi from our old apartment, the one you saw a few years ago. It’s really pretty with just the most gorgeous backyard ever! Gazebo, firepit, outdoor bar/grill, etc.

Yay, congrats!! It has always been my experience that you “just know” when you find the right house or apartment, and the ones I loved right away I kept loving, and the others not so much, so I don’t think you were hasty at all.

Tauerville Patchouli Flash, Villoresi and Patricia de Nicolai Patchoulis, plus some L’Artisan Voleur de Roses and Tauerville Vanilla flash which has patchouli accents as well. I am planning to try Mazzolari, Reminiscence, Molinard and Maître Parfumeur et Gantier patchoulis as soon as i can get a sample, as well as Dior Patchouli Imperial. Sadly the new Diptyque one didn’t work on me. I also had to swap my bottle of PoaL because it started giving me headaches. 🙁

I have a decant of Ambre Precieux by MPG on its way, first time to try the brand. I like the Patchoulight; the bottle is very nice. I dare to say it smells better than POAL. This is more smooth, there is a touch of powder, I can smell the iris. I am very happy with this. I’ve written down the patchoulis you have listed — thank you!

Looks like it’s turning into a Chanel week for me although not for CP reasons!

SOTD = Chanel Les Exclusifs 1957

Sweet, aldehylic, lightly floral, soapy vanilla musk. With 8 spritzes, I definitely get jasmine although not orris as reported in Fragrantica.

I posted a picture of my bottle in Instagram @hajusuuri (you can view, but not comment, even if you don’t have an account if you go to Instagram dot com / hajusuuri). Do take a look if you have time; first one in the U.S. to respond correctly may get a surprise. Even if you think a previous response is correct, post your response anyway because I can be tricky ?

Ha! 8 sprays 6 hours. You just inspired my SOTD tomorrow – it will be 10 sprays ?

Paris-Riviera: the Oreos came out in the far dry down and the orris molecules must have circulated around my central a/c such that when I unlocked and opened my door, my house smelled like orris butter.

(If chocolatemarzipan is reading, I caught my spellcheck in time or else orris would have come out as Oreos ?)

Tomato leafy rose today in Distillery General Heirloom. It’s good and sharp- reminds me a little of L’Ombre dans l’Eau.

Well, big news, friends. After two wonderful years in New Mexico, we are off to California. We will be moving probably the first week of September. I’ve come to terms with it and am okay…I’m looking at all the positives (good shopping in LA, close to beaches etc) but I will still be sad to leave friends and a job I really like overall. BUT, I’m adventurous and make friends easily, so I’m just looking at is as a new adventure! Please send calming thoughts my way, though- moving is so stressful

On that note, I think I’ll enjoy some tequila tonight.

I am wearing Grandiflora Boronia BUt pretending that it is Vagabond Prince Enchanted Forest…not quite working but , you know…for a long time I have been searching for one of my favourite childhood books, the Snow Queen , on ebay. The edition I had was beautifully illustrated , Scandanavian modernist. Anyway, I found it the other day. The book was $22 and the shipping $92 for a 32 page A4 sized volume. So the search continues. The Forest on the hill has transformed overnight to Spring. Yellow pollen cones on all the pine trees, a lone daffodil, some magnolias in flower and little turrets of white flowered kanuka.

How could it possibly cost $92 to ship a children’s book from anywhere to New Zealand??

Your spring flowers sound lovely though.

It’s US$62 (NZ$92) which is crazy but typical. I have found another copy for only NZ$50 shipping which is still too much.

Out of idle curiosity, I just went to the USPS web site to see how much it would cost to send a half pound package from USA to NZ. The answer is $14.50 USD. I assume the seller was not in the US…..

Hello NST friends, I am alive and survived my tooth extraction yesterday, but the process was pretty traumatic and my pain yesterday afternoon and evening was horrendous. The oral surgeon was incredibly young and very sweet, so that’s a plus (a Vietnamese guy who looked about 15!). I am a bit better today but probably did not improve my blood pressure by watching Mueller testify before Congress. I won’t say any more on that due to our site policies. Probably stressful no matter what your political views. I am wearing a small amount of Nostalgia Memoir de l’Amour just on my fingers because my skin is getting a rash, probably from high dosages of both antibiotics and anti-inflammatories. At least our weather is gorgeous, 86 today and only 38% humidity which is unheard-of in Houston in the summertime.

Home now and testing Salome. A dear friend sent me a decant from her full bottle. I tried this one several years ago in cool weather. It smelled like naughty underpants. I sent it to university with eldest Marzipan because she and her roommates had “alcohol” parties where they tested many niche samples that I sent her off with as so many of those college kids are so cash strapped with the ridiculous costs of college these days.
Anyway, my skin is wonky because it’s a completely different perfume in the heat….musky and floral. I had the same reaction with my decant that Holly sent me of Absolutely Pour Le Soir. In the winter it was full on skank. In the summer it was Amber and honey. So strange.

It IS a gorgeous summer day here! ??

However, there was a bit of drama today… I took Teflon kitty to the vet for her shots, and the typical annual physical. It took some blood (mine, got scratched pretty good this time), sweat (also mine), and tears (Teflon’s, as she made her objections known on the trip to and from the vet’s office). She is in excellent shape despite all her protests. ?

SOTD = a slight whiff of Eau de Vet’s Office and one teeny tiny drop of Tempo that I coaxed out of the sprayer this morning.

    SotD = Eau de Guerlain

I adore EdG, it smells refreshing.

Yesterday’s discussion of the new Mon Guerlain flanker prompted me my SotD choice. It was fun to read, you might like to check it out if you haven’t already. ?

I also smell of Bronze Goddess and Jo Malone Whiskey and Cedar, kind of polar opposites. Spritzed them when I went to a cosmetics shop today and sniffed all the tester bottles. Fun times!

I had a new co-worker ask me if I could give her anything to do for the last 1/2 hour of the day; omg, yes! Plus I can keep her busy all day tomorrow if she needs something else to do. She made my day.
