Thursday scent of the day 7/18

Posted by Robin on 18 July 2019 288 Comments

Almost-Friday plus Mandela Day. What fragrance are you wearing?

I'm in Providence Perfume Co Lemon Liada, to cut through a sticky-humid July morning.

Reminder: on 7/19, wear a fragrance by Jo Loves, Jack Perfumes, Jardins D’Écrivains, Jul et Mad or Juliette Has A Gun, if you have one. Partial credit for any other small-ish brand that starts with the letter J.

And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2019, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

I’m wearing Bruno Fazzolari Five, which is perfectly represented by the picture above.

several times. I enjoyed it to the max!

Kiki is a gorgeous lavender/passion fruit scent with a hint of geranium. I love the way it develops, a herbal harsh opening that smells oily first, but softens very quickly. Later it becomes creamy. It has some sweetness. A very interesting, beautiful and well blended perfume.

It’s a bit sticky here too, but nothing like what’s going on in the eastern part of the country. I’m in my old friend, Gucci EDP – it never fails to please.

I am wearing my only Jo Loves, a sample of Green Orange & Coriander. An interesting scent, though I am afraid it has too much coriander for me.

That’s the one I’ll be wearing tomorrow. It’s my only Jo Loves. Sorry the coriander is too much. I remember enjoying the perfume the only other time I wore it (got a decant in a swap), so I’ll report my thoughts tomorrow.

I hope you enjoy it tomorrow. I think it’s well made, but the combination of coriander and, I think, moss suffocates me a little. 🙂 The spicy and citrussy opening is very nice.

My eyes are like the rain pouring down today..
We found out yesterday that our cat has the ‘c’ word, which I can’t even believe..I have been crying non-stop. We are not sure what the next steps are, but its very hard to navigate since we have two small kids at home and our cat is a part of their life too..
My youngest, whom is 3, said to the cat this morning..”I missed you so much when you were at the doctors yesterday”
Doesn’t that just break your heart open?

    sigh

    Chanel Cristalle today

I have been through this with my beloved gray cat Lucy and so I definitely can empathise. I hope you have a good and kind, helpful vet to assist in guiding you through the process of dealing with this. I send all of you my most sincere loving thoughts.

In Iris Ukiyoe today, perfectly crisp and floral. Today it is a little bit greener them usual but I’m not complaining.

Yesterday I actually went to Neiman Marcus and smelled the new JCE for Houbigant, Essence Rare. Didn’t smell too much like his Hermes collections, just a truly lovely white floral. I need more exploring, though I abhor the price.

That picture has inspired my SOTD: Profumum Roma Acqua Viva. Lemon can be tricky, sometimes I get citronella candle and other times I get lemon pledge. This one is like smelling a slice of lemon with just a dusting of sugar sprinkled across it.
I was woken even before the birds this morning by lightening and thunder. Per my dad’s old adage, rain before seven done by eleven, it is just starting to clear. I can see some blue sky and the birds are chirping. It’s supposed to be another scorcher today and I don’t have plans to even leave the house, lol. The central air and I are becoming fast friends this summer.

I am wearing Hermes Neroli Dore today and drinking a cup of gunpowder green tea, while working on putting together some “baby” music. I, along with my daughter and sister in law, am throwing a baby shower for my niece. The shower will be on Saturday. Currently playing is No Doubt, “Hey Baby”. Oops, I took too long to type. Now, the next song started playing. We are on to Diana Krall, “I Can’t Give You Anything But Love, Baby” 🙂

Now it’s just way too clean and sharp. I only dabbed from a sample, but it’s so strong. I hope it settles down soon. It’s definitely going in the giveaway sample baggie now.

It’s a gorgeous day here – sunny, clear, warm but not hot, not humid but not dry. I applied Kelly Caleche EdP very early this morning. Then I remembered that I’d planned to try Incense Flash, which I’ll wear once KC dies down. A generous NSTer was kind enough to share her Tauer collection with me, which I sniffed around yesterday. I wore Rose Delight to bed and slept exceptionally well.

I just redeemed some cashback (from topcashback) and made an ebay purchase. Angel Innocent for me; the original A*Men for my H. He wears lots of yummy things but A*Men makes me swoon every time.

It’s been bad here in southeastern Pennsylvania, yes. Over the last week or so, including today, I’ve been caught in at least four torrential downpours as I was driving or running in and out of grocery stores. Like, blinding rain and quite deep puddles on the roads torrential, plus lightning very close by. And as our New Jersey friends noted, the weekend is supposed to be even hotter. I wish we could give the folks who want hot weather and rain some of ours.

Hello everyone. I’m wearing the EB Florals Regal Tuberose that I got from the nice SA at Saks last week. It’s really pretty and delicate, a word I never associated with ‘tuberose’ before this! I am in a room with five calm sleeping cats and drinking my second cup of coffee. It’s a good morning.

It’s been a drizzly morning, but much cooler in the 70s so far. Went to see Aimee Mann last night, whom I love, and it was a great show- except we got caught in a torrential downpour with intense wind and then I was standing under an aircon vent for most of the show which made my hands and mouth completely numb (Raynaud’s in action) :/
SOTD is AdP Iris Nobile EDT from a couple of partial samples that have been floating around in various drawers. I really need to organize!

Ugh, I commiserate 100%. I’m not a fan of A/C, and most especially not when wet. It’s hard to enjoy anything with frozen extremities. I brought a cashmere blankie (ruana) to the last show I went to – but it was a short, dry, walk in 95F heat from the car to the door.

A little AC is great. Freezing air blowing straight at your neck, not so great. Smart of you. I thought about bringing a sweater before I left, but it felt like 100 degrees out so didn’t do it. Next time…

It’s easier to haul stuff like that around when one is driving. I feel a little silly sometimes but it beats the alternative.

A little A/C can be great but it’s rarely employed that way!

It’s so common in Houston for places to be very frigidly air-conditioned in the summer, that I automatically take a jacket with me to restaurants, movie theaters, the ballet, etc. My poor mom likes her assisted living place but today, when we had a heat index of 107, I arrived to find her dressed in black pants, a turtleneck, and a thick black cashmere cardigan, and she was still chilly!

Hola! My Dear Polly came in last night, in a horribly crushed box, but the seller earned herself a rave review by packaging it so well that even the mail system couldn’t break it. I’m wearing it today and learning that the far drydown is actually my favorite part, which is unusual for me! Also got a good review from Mr. Doublemint, I wonder if he’ll co-opt it (I encourage this.)

I’m wearing Zoologist Dragonfly again today. Wow, the changeability of the perfume-wearing experience always amazes me. Yesterday it was all wet floral gardens and shimmery hazes, and today it’s rain and rice, plus that distinct musky animalic buzz that seems to underlie most of the scents from this line. It’s still lovely, but I think that buzz relieves me of having to consider a FB purchase.

To my nose, it is present in all of the Zoologist perfumes I’ve sampled. I find this line really enjoyable to smell, particularly in the first hour – and I almost bought Camel – but I don’t always appreciate this underlying skankiness that eventually turns up.

My wonky olfactory system massively amplifies any animalic notes to the point where it’s quite unpleasant, so I’m actively avoiding.

I discovered this summer that both Guerlain Vetiver and Eau Claire des Merveilles are too animalic now. Go figure. It’s starting to really limit my choices 🙁

    SotD = Hiris, Hiris, Hiris

Hey, perfume people! You smell fantastic.

Hiris always makes me breathe deep and smile, it’s the smell of contentment for me. What’s yours?

I’m listening to roofers pound nails in the house nextdoor. It’s oddly hypnotic, a little like the sound of rain, but more bang-bang-bang-y 😀

Went for an hour-long walk this morning, the rest of my neighborhood is soooooo quiet today. Very nice.

It’s after 10:00 am, I’m still not hungry for breakfast. Maybe I’ll wait for lunch then have eggs or oatmeal or both.

Sampling Oriza Legrand Oeilette Louis XV or whatever number, against Carthusia Fiori di Capri EDP, which is my current carnation standard.

I am sorry to report the Oriza was holding it’s own for a while, with more “fresh” carnation which surprised me, as I thought this was one of their old resurrected recipes, but it has now faded to a pleasant but barely there flowery whiff, whereas the Fiori di Capri is still doing it’s floral carnation thing, denser than the EDT, but still light enough to wear in hot weather. I miss the carnation bomb of Malmaison, but this is an adequate substitute and I wear it all year round. Still looking for the holy grail clovey with green undertones carnation – anyone have any suggestions for something for me to search out?

Nina Ricci L’Air du Temps might be worth searching out on your carnation quest. It’s clovey, but I can’t remember if it has the green notes you’re looking for. It’s pretty widely available, so shouldn’t be too hard to find a sample.

Cdg Series 2 Red Carnation is about as green of carnation you can get. I really like the Louis one myself. Oeillet Bengale is a nice overall carnation. As well as Oeillet Sauvage and Bellodgia:).

Malmaison Encore in a bland rosey thing, no carnation to be found. IMHO, your nose may differ.
The Carthusia Fiori de Capri EDP can be had through many vendors, as well as the Carthusia website. I have a current (2 yo) bottle, no idea as to reformulations or whatnot. The EDP I got is different from the EDT sample I had first. I like both, and am happy I have the denser version. Probably you should sample both before you commit many $s to either one.

      Important – what Kanuka said.

The company is not allowed to ask you for your salary history until after you have been offered the position with a stated rate. I say gather as much intelligence as you can – ask for more than what you’re getting now but not so high that the company won’t be able to afford you for the position. Ask about development and advancement opportunities if it makes sense for the type of job you are seeking.

Well, I believe what you say is true, but on the application, it would not let you submit until the wage history was filled out. So, I will see when I get there. I’m thinking about inquiring about commission positions.

I looked back and your state just reversed the ban on asking salary info. A pox on your state then for doing the opposite of what other states are doing!

I’m leery of commission based positions but that could be very different from industry to industry…

That’s great! One thing that helped me in interviewing over the years was going in with the intention of finding out whether I *wanted* to work there (which means figuring out what I didn’t like about my prior jobs and asking questions, like hajusuuri suggested), rather than worrying about whether they wanted to hire me. Totally shifts the power dynamic and made me appear more confident (though I was still nervous). Or you can do the old Brady Bunch picturing everyone in their underwear ?
      Fingers crossed for you!

That’s fantastic news about the interview! I agree with some of the other posters who have suggested going in with the attitude of “Is this company a good place for me to be working at?” Also, do some research online about the corporate history and culture.

I have had a very lucky week as my early morning walks have coincided with the full moon setting over the harbour and hill, including a partial eclipse. Yesterday it was so calm and still the harbour looked frozen as it glinted under moonlight. I do like winter! Wearing Lale as it is meant to have wintersweet as a note but it is more lemon soapsuds to my nose.

So, I am doing an informal poll – if you were expecting a package from Chanel, Hermes, Harrods and the like, do you want the outside of the package mailed to you to SCREAM the brand? Yes or No and why?

Chiming in relatively early for me — at least not at midnight the next day! Scent of the day: 4711 Pink Pepper & Grapefruit, which has become a favorite. (Thanks, Pixel!) Wednesday I tried the 4711 Mandarine & Cardamom body spray a few times, and could barely smell anything. I very much like the scent of cardamom (and mandarin oranges, too!), so that was disappointing. I’ll try it another day, though. I don’t think it was just me, but it’s better if I give something I can’t smell well one day a chance another time.

I posted at midnight sometime this past week that I’d tried Paris-Biarritz. 🙂 I don’t think my sense of smell was working too well that day, but I liked what I could smell of it. 🙂 I’ll try some of the others this weekend. Thanks again!

I’m sure I’ll get in a trip to Sephora or a department store sometime in the next couple of weeks. I’ll let you know what they have. 🙂 But thanks for the thought. 🙂 The Sephora store near to me has a pretty good assortment of Hermes fragrances, and a lot of Atelier Cologne colognes. Also a selection of a couple of those J name perfumes. I’m not sure what NVC is, but I still get lost with some of the brand and perfume abbreviations.

Hot and humid in Montreal, we are hiding under the AC. Today I wore an arabic perfume I can’t find anywhere on the internet, it was a gift from a Persian friend. I am guessing it’s Joy:/..Dior was really promoting that one this year.

I initially thought this but I thought the Joy bottle is more cylindrical than squat.

Wanted to let you know that I got my bottle of Miroir Des Joyaux. I really like it! The first few minutes are a little sharp to my nose. After that though its lovely. It is actually very similar to my beloved Cuir Impertinent by Mugler, but without the tobacco note. I’m looking forward to wearing it this fall and winter. So pretty much, most of the year, lol.

I’m so pleased to hear you like the Miroir des Joyaux, Lillyjo, it was on my mind hoping you wouldn’t be disappointed, I find it easy to wear, yes it’s definitely for cooler temps. I have never smelled Cuir Impertinent you make it sound tempting.

I finally smelled the current version of Joy earlier this summer and thought it was rather pretty. The vintage must be something wonderful.

Wearing some Oolang Infini tonight. It’s been a long time since I wore this one; wonder if i could get away with it at work in our scent-free environment.
