Lazy weekend poll ~ what’s in your shower, edition 4

Posted by Robin on 6 July 2019 258 Comments

Tell us about the scented products in your bath or shower! How many scented shower gels and/or bar soaps are in your shower right now? And do tell us the names / products. If you have any great scented products in other categories (hair care?) tell us about those too.

Or, as always, just talk about something else.

Things that were in my shower last year, and that I still have (or have replaced): Nesti Dante Emozioni in Toscana Villages & Monasteries bar soap, Lush Rose Jam, Lush Happy Hippy and Weleda Sea Buckthorn Creamy Body Wash, Desert Essence Island Mango Shampoo and Conditioner.

New things: Andalou Naturals Sunflower & Citrus Shampoo & Conditioner, Andalou 1000 Roses Complex Deep Conditioning Hair Mask, The Body Shop Banana Shower Cream (that one I definitely won't replace).

Note: tub and fittings are from Axor Urquiola.

    As to today’s Q, zero.

I did start using scented bar soap about a year ago, though. I bought a bar of South of France brand in Orange Blossom last summer. Or at least, I thought that’s what it was, but it’s actually Orange Blossom and Honey and has a rich honey scent that wafts through my kitchen every time I use it.

As to yesterday’s: I’ve worked as a volunteer tax preparer for the last 2 years and even *I* filed my state return late this year. (I had to file a PAPER return or pay TurboTax well over $100. I went with paper, which I haven’t done since the 90s.) You’re not alone, Robin! I’d venture to guess that most people don’t file by the April deadline.

Unintentionally finished out this week’s unintentional Chanel theme in Eau Premiere yesterday. I can no longer wear any of my vintage No 5 bottles (*cries, weeps, wails*) so I’ve got both the new flankers. Neither of which hold a candle to No 5 Cologne, which was my absolute aldehydes-drenched eyes-roll-back-in-head favorite.

Currently in tiny spritzes of Diptyque Oyedo. Showering soon and will pick something to wear to hear the Cleveland Orchestra at Blossom, its summer home, this evening.

We went to Blossom once last year. It has a capacity of 10,000 or so, with some seating under a structure and the rest on the hillside lawn looking toward the stage. We were on the lawn, lying under the stars listening to Yo Yo Ma play the full Bach Cello Suites with no other accompaniment than cicadas and crickets. It was truly magical.

Something weird’s been going on wirh my olfactory system in the last few years. I can’t wear almost any vintage any more because the animalic notes get so amplified it’s all I can smell and its extremely unpleasant – like being smothered alive by a cat.

There are also new perfumes I can’t wear because of either one or a group of aromachemicals amplify in a similarly unpleasant way.

initially I chalked it up to some kind of peri-menopausal thing but my sister has similar issues so I’m leaning toward some kind of genetic factor being at play.

Perimenopause sucks. The hormone fluctuations get my sniffer completely out of sorts. The most noticeable thing is that every now and then, lavender smells like onions to me. I also have the same problem with some of the woody aroma chemicals amplifying in a nasty way. I feel your pain.

Yes! It’s the woody aromachemicals. I can avoid them on myself but smell them in the wild all the time. Haven’t had anything smell like onions yet – oof.

Maybe I should go back to my original theory. My sister’s perimenopausal, too.

Because of the fragrance, or due to foaming agents? It took me way too long (decades) to figure out that my dry, itchy, scaly skin and scalp were caused by foaming agents. I now only use soapy things in my ears and the undercarriage.

        kpaint,
been trying to figure it out for years. A few trips to ER for steroid shots, followed by allergy tests.

I can wear fragrance, and even a few fragranced lotions, but that’s about it. Soap, laundry detergent, everything is sensitive version and no fragrance.

I don’t use shower gel anymore, at least hardly.
I’ve got several bars of soaps, different scents: lavender, citrus, rose, gourmand, green, fruity, big white floral and always a bar of Alep soap! I think I might need help 😉

Right now, I enjoy the Dove Micellar Water shower gel because it smells like aldehydes to me. Others have agreed that it has a bit of that Chanel No. 22 vibe to them too. Really feels clean and bracing in the summer. I’m also enjoying ApotheCare Coconut Milk White Jasmine body wash. It’s a very creamy one. And finally the new Dove mousse body cleanser in Rose. Surprisingly nice rose scent. Not one dimensional like I thought it would be. For hair, I’m using Shea Moisture Peace Rose Oil shampoo and conditioner. I’m a curly with dry hair, and these work well and smell very nice indeed. All these products can be bought at the drugstore or Ulta.

I just put a Mediterranean fig shower cream back in the shower – I put it away last fall since I like it more for summer. We always have one or two scented soaps in the shower. Right now one are a verbena one and a rosy floral. I have a ton of soaps waiting in the wings. I tend toward scented soaps in the shower rather than liquids. But, our hand soap is always liquid. My sister is the opposite.

About to head out into the soupy weather. Ugh. Dreading it. I sprayed on Body Shop Satsuma body spray with Aliage in top. Doesn’t really work well. Once I get back and shower, I’ll try something different.

No. That’s not the actual name. It’s just something I got at Duane Reade that has olive leaf, fig and tomato leaf. A Boots brand they no longer seem to carry.

I also forgot I still have a big jug of Trader Joe’s all-in-one body wash and shampoo. It’s a very nice scent. Bergamot, jasmine, sage. Quite nice. I also just put a new soap in from Sumbody. A citrusy one. Sumbody makes some nice products out of Sebastopol. Their Milky Rich scented soap and room sprays are a gorgeous milky vanilla.

    Hello Saturday!
Today I thunked (this does apply to shower products too, right?) my last bottle of Yves Rocher Golden Tea shower gel. This was a Christmas 2018 limited edition and I bought like 3 bottles of that one and today it is officially gone from my bathroom forever.
The next one I’m going to use is Avon Senses Tranquil Moments with a fragrance of lemon, blackcurrant and sandalwood.

Perfume-wise: I had a big craving for rose scent this morning and I sprayed Le Labo Rose 31 in the morning only to start moaning shortly after that this isn’t very much of a rose perfume on my skin and that it vanishes pretty quickly. My collection is deficient in rose it seems so my second perfume today was Aedes de Venustas original Eau de Parfum, the rhubarb one.

Did you recently discover any interesting roses that I should smell?

I just checked my closet, and gasp! I only have one YR bath item, namely Passion Fruit Ginger. Fortunately, I will be going to Ottawa next week and might be able to stock up at an actual YR store. (P.S. I miss the long-gone YR Rose Absolue – wonder how the Argan Rose bath stuff is like at least.

Thanks to Holly, I was able to test Lustre. It reminds me of Tea Rose by Perfumer’s Workshop. It’s a little softer and pretty. I used a dabber sample so I did not notice citronella but maybe I would sprayed. It seems quite different from the rest of the Tauer line. At least for me.

I have not reduced much the amount of scented products in my shower since last year. Finished some, added few, either by buying them or being gifted. Some from very generous NSTers from the swapmeets or freebiemeets. They are not the fanciest ones, but I enjoy them. Right now I am working on finishing Molton Brown Orange & Bergamot shower gel and Pre de Provence Rose Petal bar soap.

This is what I have now:

-Bvlgari Au the Bleu shower gel and shampoo
    -Gucci Bloom shower gel
    -Lush Rose Jam
-Pre de Provence Linen bar soap
-Pre de Provence Patchouli bar soap
Pre de Provence Fressia bar soap
-Pre de Provence White Gardenia bar soap
-Pre de Provence Milk bar soap
-Pre de Provence Lemongrass bar soap
-Pre de Provence Verbena bar soap
-One with Nature  Dead Sea Mud bar soap
-A la Maison de Provence Fresh Sea Salt bar soap
-Asquith & Somerset Wild Rose bar soap
-Gori 1919 Noel Collection Lavander bar soap
-Castelbel Porto Winter Pine bar soap
-Orange&Clove bar soap in a beautiful music box. I do not know the brand.
    -Goatboy Lavender bar soap
    -Goatboy Delicious bar soap
-Zum Myrrh and Frankincense bar soap and shower gel
-Zum bundle with many of their bar soap samples
    -B&BW Aromatherapy Sleep bar soap
    -B&BW Rose shower gel
-Nivea Foaming Silk Mousse body wash classic

I was a bit inspired after listing out my products. Kinda makes you stop and think; I might as well round up all my shower gels into 1 convenient place just so its a bit more real. I really like the thought of a cabinet (or multiples of) to organize. My hubby doesn’t like shower gels, so it’s all on me to plough through it. He likes plain Ivory Soap; so he can’t even help.

And I should go on a no-buy until this stuff is gone! Maybe for lip products and lipstick as well.

I did not realized or in reality never paid attention to the amount of shower products I had until I seriously organized them in a cabinet. That helps a lot. I am not a big fun of scented body lotions and creams and I have plenty which I have also received as presents. I only buy unscented ones that do not interfere with my perfumes. I am in a no buy with anything that I have in excess.

I also was accumulating more soap and shower gel than I had room for. One way I got rid of any shower gels and body wash was to use them in my sink soap dispenser since that’s my most frequent use of liquid soap. Some bottles were eliminated very quickly that way.
I also used some soaps as drawer scents (I have that Wild Rose bar in a drawer and it’s pretty fragrant!) Others that I wasn’t particularly attached to got gifted to people as host gifts or little holiday extras also.

I like the idea of gels and body washes to be used as sink liquid soap. I will definitely do that.
I have many mini bar soaps, which are very nice and cute, but that I don’t use much. I have been adding them as extras for birthday or holiday gifts. The same goes for the body lotions. I wish I could do the same with many perfumes, but I really get very attached to them.

I don’t really give it too much thought. I pick any from the stash based on the season. Now, I am using the Rose Petal that I started before the hot season arrived and the Orange & Bergamot which is very appropriate for summer. I never use more than two at a time and I always finish them before bringing the next two to the shower.

This couldn’t be a more timely subject, as I was determined to post here this weekend about my new love: Molton Brown Rosa Absolute
Bath and Shower Gel. It is wonderful! In fact, I love it so much, I got myself into a tizzy because there was no cologne. But I discovered today that there IS a cologne, it just isn’t carried in any of the shops over here that stock Molton Brown! So I asked one of my perfume shops today to special order it for me. I’m so excited! Of course, it is only cologne. I know I will be wishing there was an edp.

I think I am going to have to stock up on this stuff, as MB has been known to discontinue products. For years, I faithfully used their Suma Ginseng Bath and Shower Gel, and then they discontinued it.

How to best describe the MB Rosa Absolute? It comes closest to FM’s Portrait of a Lady, but is smoother. I could never care for Rose Jam from Lush. I bought a bottle of it some years back and still have about a sixth of it left. It’s too sweet, imo. I’m a sucker for rose/patchouli fragrances, as my perfume closet will attest to, but the Rosa Absolute is the best of these. So, highly recommended, folks!

Another years-long favorite is Therme Zen White Lotus Shower Satin. I managed some years ago to find out that there is tuberose in it, although I wouldn’t call it a tuberose scent. They also have other Zen White Lotus products in their line (oil, fragrance sticks, maybe more).

My other all-time favorite, which I’ve gushed over here many times in the past, is the Patchouli soap from Santa Maria Novella. Besides being a joy to bathe with, an unwrapped, yet-unused bar will scent a small room.

Last, but not least, my go-to cheapie is Kneipp Mild Rose and Lavender. There are several products in that scent. I use the shower gel. My favorite was foaming bath oil, but that’s been discontinued. They do have it in just bath oil.

Kevin also found the Lush way too sweet, so you are not alone! I will have to smell the RA, esp. if it is close to Portrait but smoother, that sounds quite nice.

Kneipp has a Passion Fruit & Grapefruit Body Wash that I was just admiring at Smallflower, wish I knew if it smelled great.

A big fan of Rosa Absolute, I am in the UK and Molton Brown is well loved here . I haven’t got the bath and shower gel, now thanks to you I want to try it but I’ve had bottle of the Eau de Toilette for about 3 years, I think and use it regularly, it’s such a good rose scent, it’s true it compared to POAL on Fragrantica, I call it the poor man’s POAL, it is less complex but easier to wear. Hope you will enjoy your bottle when it comes. I enjoy another of their fragrances Ylang-Ylang which is very similart to the discontinued Guerlain Aqua Allegoria Ylang-Vanille.

Thank you, Aurora. I didn’t know about the Fragrantica review. (Glad I’m not alone in comparing it to POAL). I’m going to have to sniff the Ylang-Ylang when/if I get a chance.

Well, not only will I probably buy a small bottle of RA on eBay, I will also be sure to buy the YY. I really enjoy the Guerlain and am glad I still have a large bottle of it.

Does anyone know if Kilian Beyond Love Prohibited has been discontinued? I haven’t been able to find it for the past year (when I was finally ready to order it). I would need to find a source (not eBay) on this side of the pond (I’m in the Netherlands).

I always love these posts because I get lots of ideas of what to try.

    In the shower right now:
-Lafco Daffodil bar soap that’s almost gone. This is my first LAFCO,soap, and it’s really creamy like Nesti Dante.
-Yves Rocher Maracuja limited edition shower gel that’s almost gone. It’s the second bottle of the two I got free with purchase last summer. I see now YR has rebottled it and is simply calling it Passionfruit & Ginger.
-Provence Sante Linden shower gel. This is really wonderful.
-Love Beauty and Planet Indian Lilac & Clove Leaf shampoo that’s almost gone. I like the scent, but this formula doesn’t seem to do much for my hair.
-Garnier Whole Blends Legendary Olive Replenishing shampoo. Just started using. Seems just ok.
-365 (Whole Foods brand) fragrance free conditioner, which is my staple conditioner. I will switch out to different conditioners here and there to get more moisturizing effect.

Next up after I finish the YR shower gel is more passionfruit for summer, Kneipp Passionfruit & Grapefruit. Not sure yet about my next bar soap.

I recently found Desert Essence Sweet Almond shower gel at TJ Maxx that I’m excited to use. And I will probably buy the Klorane Summer Hair Weekender Kit on sale at Beautyhabit right now. It’s got ylang ylang shampoo, conditioner, and oil.

No SOTD yet but we’re heading out after breakfast to the 12:00 showing of Midsommar. So something that will be a good companion at a two and a half hour movie…

Yes, I used it last summer too. I like it a lot, better than the YR. It’s a perfect combo of the two fruits with the passionfruit reading really sour and tart from being paired with the grapefruit.

It appears I am not the only enabler here, lol! I adore Linden flowers and they have just bloomed for only one short week here. Your description of a wonderful Linden scent caught my attention and is sparking a blind buy. It took me a considerable time at the computer to hunt down the Provence Santé company in France. I don’t speak/write French, but just wrote to them now in English asking how I may order the shower gel and the edt. Thank you! I hope I love it, too.

Lots of love for Molton Brown shower gels here this morning, I see. The only scented product in my shower at the moment is MB Bushukan. Love the scent, and it’s really a nice body wash in general – a little goes a long way and it makes nice bubbles. The other scented things in there are my shampoo and conditioner – KMS Tame Frizz. They smell heavenly, like cocoa and something else that I can’t quite pin down. I have a bar of Mediterraneo soap somewhere, but like apsara above I get a skin reaction to it, so usage is intermittent.

I’ve eliminated shower gels a0nd liquid shampoo from my shower arsenal over the last couple of years. I have a couple of bar soaps in their now:
Lush Outback Mate (lemongrass and peppermint/eucalyptus). Won’t replace; doesn’t lather well and the dyes kind of annoy me-it is a pretty blue, though.

Rad Soap Co. : Small sample-sized soaps in Chaga which smells a little berry-ish and Toke which is sandalwood and vanilla- both lather well and Toke smells delicious! I also have used the Skin Therapy bar which smells like gardenia and spearmint. I would re-buy that one.

Lush Jumping Juniper shampoo bar which is supposed to smell like lavender and juniper but it’s practically scentless to me.
I have Seanick waiting in the wings which is a nice orange blossom but verges a little on dryer sheet.

Le Labo hair conditioner: like 1/8 left of the basil which smells fantastic, and a new-ish bottle of Hinoki which I like too. Great conditioning and you need so little that the bottles last me forever (the basil is from the Fall!).

The only scented lotion I actually use is Shikai Yuzu which smells great, though the scent doesn’t last.
And I have the Body Shop Moringa body milk which is a really nice jasmine and should use more often.

Aesop deodorant spray which smells like lavender and rosemary. I actually used it as insect repellent last night in my arms and ankles at the park and I think it worked! No bites! I’ll make my own next time.

So humid and grey today and wish it would just rain already. Commando atm, but I’ll wear something this evening- I’m thinking either Ylang 49 which is nice and sultry in the heat, or Le Cri… which I also like in hot weather.
    Happy weekend!

True, it might not help the humidity. I also need my plants watered in the yard since I can’t use the hose, so I’m hoping for that, too. The rain clouds have just been passing right over with a bit of thunder, but barely a few sprinkles!

I was in the house for the first thunderstorm and torrential downpour. I heard that a tornado had touched down in Mount Laurel, NJ during “Storm # 1.”

Mom and I were out picking up a pizza when “Storm # 2” started. I was the one who had gone into the restaurant. I ran back to the car with the pizza box over my head. There were some very close lightning strikes with that one.

Apparently there’s a “Storm # 3” coming east from western Pennsylvania. That’s supposed to pass over eastern Pennsylvania in the middle of the night, I think. Or maybe Sunday morning.

I’ve been hearing about the second earthquake in southern California in two days. I hope everyone’s okay.

        Take care!

So, that second quake – 7.1, people – was CRAZY. It might be wishful thinking, but it feels like the aftershocks are becoming less frequent, though as I type this, I feel another one (they’ve averaged one a minute since Thursday, to give you some idea of their frequency). Perhaps they just feel less intense. I have stopped cleaning up at this point, except for broken glass. I took a much needed shower yesterday, and then wore Ciel d’Opale to invoke some bright and hopeful notes into my day.

I am oddly calm, and seriously grateful that I have power, water, and food, that my house is still standing, Otto Mi Gato is fine, and I am uninjured. Life at this moment seems filled with good fortune.

SOTD – what to wear? I might try some Jaisalmer to invoke calmness and stability. Frankly, I’d kneel and make some offerings to Mother Nature at this point if it would keep the ground from moving. 🙂

Have been trying hard to work on my shower gel backlog, and not doing too badly. Currently in the shower stall is a rosy Nivea, the Body Shop cherry blossom, some San Francisco Salt co foaming salts, and the Aerin amber musk. The last is pretty nice, and would definitely buy, if I could find it again at under $20.

Shower gels: EO Rose & Lemon, LUSH Rose Jam, a travel-size Molton Brown Eucalyptus

Soaps: Dr. Bronner’s Almond, The Lucky Honeybee Peppermint Tea Tree

Shampoo & Conditioner: Carol’s Daughter Cactus & Rose Water, Raw Sugar The Bounce-Back (this one doesn’t actually smell too great)

    Shower gels:
Dr. Bronners Pure Castille liquid soap in Almond
Softsoap Luminous Oils body wash in avocado oil and iris
Crabtree and Evelyn Venetian Violet shower gel
    Korres shower gel in Jasmine
    Bronze Goddess shower gel
BBW At the Beach body wash
    Calyx shower gel

For soap, just a good old bar of Dove white soap.

    Shampoos & stuff
    Joico Triage
    Lush Daddy-o
Yves Rocher I heart my planet (lemony)
    Yves Rocher Reflets Argent
    Yves Rocher Raspberry Vinegar Rinse
    Joico Moisture Recovery Conditioner
    Bobbi Brown Beach Body Scrub
Crabtree and Evelyn Tarocco Orange Eucalyptus/Sage scrub

WITHIN my shower, I have Korres Olive Oil and Sea Salt body wash, Rose Jam body wash, Algemarin bubble bath, Shea Moisture Olive and Green Tea scrub, and some vintage Tabu soap. (I think I am attracted to olive scented things because they smell great but rarely interfere with my perfume.)

Bath oil is really my jam though, so I must also list what’s on the shelves:
    Arpege bath salts
    No. 5 bath oil
    Santosha bath perfume
Trader Joe’s vitamin E oil (for a neutral smelling bath I can then dump perfume into)
    Avon Skin-so-Soft bath beads
some Bulgari Black soap waiting to be opened

and my newest darling, a vintage Azuree “bath organizer” that comes with four things and a pamphlet to tell you what order to use them in: “tender creme bath,” “friction rub,” “satin lotion,” and cologne. I followed the instructions to the letter last week and was rewarded with a very soft and excellent smelling self.

I don’t buy a lot of shower luxuries – that way I have more money for the perfumes! I am near the end of a large bottle of Rose Jam. I went through a lot when it first came out, but hadn’t bought any for ages and now it seems too sweet – I think it’s more that my taste has changed, rather than the Rose Jam. It’s not unpleasant, but I wouldn’t get a big bottle again.
And now I’m off to clean our bathroom. I think our bathroom is rather nice, but it doesn’t rival the one in the photo 🙂

Pretty dull in my shower: Lush Rose Jam and Lush Plum Rain. The latter was the closest I could get to their discontinued Don’t Rain on My Parade, which is my all-time favorite scented bath product. The two really have nothing in common, except perhaps purpleness, although I always saw DRoMP as blue.

I like Rose Jam best when it is aged beyond its expiration date — both the color and the fragrance deepen and mellow, IMO. My current bottle is still new, so I do not love it.

I have a Dove scented body scrub in something like pomegranate. I do not care for the fragrance at all, but it exfoliates well. My favorite scrub, Aveda Smoothing Body Polish, is discontinued. I use Aveda Color Conserve shampoo and conditioner, although I will probably buy a small bottle of the reintroduced Sap Moss line (Aveda) when I run out. My stylist used it on me at my last appointment, and I liked how it smelled.

I mention Don’t Rain every time I visit Lush, and the SA always suggests making my wishes known to the company. I have not yet done so, but should.

I somehow missed Sap Moss in its first incarnation — probably because Aveda products were beyond my budget at that time. But yes, my nose quivered happily during my recent salon visit!

    Philosophy Pure Grace
Lush Avocado Wash, Sleepy and Rose Jam (both avocado wash and sleepy have a strong burnt sugar-ish note that I do not care for, but they were Christmas presents)
Sixteen92 whipped soap in some kind of harvest scent

    Scrubs:
    Ouai scalp and body scrub
    C. Booth All over body salt scrub (great eucalyptus scent!)

    Hair:
Ouai shampoo and conditioner (Ouai products smell fabulous)

Still doing the minimalist shower suite. One shampoo. For summer it is Bumble & Bumble’s Surf Foam Wash Shampoo. Two shower gels: LUSH Dirty and a travel size of MB Eucalyptus that has 1 or 2 washings left in it. If necessary, I use a Bumble & Bumble conditioner for tangles. No soap, since my water is extremely hard.

It’s revealing to see what people collect and use. I only have two: Le Labo Labdanum 18 shower gel, which must be about a year old now (since the last survey like this), and a brand called Love Beauty and Planet Shea butter and sandalwood moisturizing body wash. It was an impulse buy at Ulta once. It smells yummy. The shea butter gives it a chocolate smell. I don’t use them regularly, just when I’m in the mood. The Le Labo one makes for a very good lather.

My SOTD is Zoologist Elephant. Going for the juicy green to match my green top and jade jewelry.

In other news, I’m finding Bloodline on Netflix kind of interesting.

Scent of the morning: Pacifica Lemon Blossom.

Bath products: I regularly use Dove Green Tea & Cucumber soap. I have dozens of kinds of scented soaps, from spicy to floral. Floral includes rose, jasmine, lavender, honeysuckle, frangipani, ylang-ylang with honey and sage, lily, lilac, violet, and many others. Spicy includes patchouli, sandalwood, bay rum, “Out of India” from COPA soaps, cardamom, ginger carrot and others.

The soaps are a variety of brands, from the already named COPA to Yardley, Woods of Windsor, Crabtree & Evelyn, Clearly Natural glycerine soap, Ten Thousand Villages soaps and several others. Some were handmade, and I got them at local farmers’ markets or living history places or the like.

I also have over a dozen kinds of shampoos and conditioners. I’m currently using Suave Coconut shampoo and conditioner. Another option in the summer is Ocean Breeze. Sometime in winter I’ll go back to using lavender, rose, cherry blossom, honeysuckle, waterlily, and whatever other floral shampoos and conditioners are around the house. Some were expensive, some not so much.

Mom tolerates the Green Tea & Cucumber soap and a couple of the more lightly-scented glycerine soaps. Otherwise I wait until she’ll be out of the house for a few days to use the soaps with the stronger scents. I love those spicy ones. Of course, I love the soaps I have that have floral or fruity fragrances, too. It was never that *I* didn’t like patchouli or sandalwood or rose geranium. Oh, well.

Scent of the day: Pacifica Island Vanilla. It’s an all-natural fragrance, but I’m getting tiny pink bumps on the part of my arms that I sprayed it on. I washed my arm when I saw the bumps. Their products are vegan, but I’m allergic to several sorts of plants, including comfrey, which is a challenge when I’m looking for skin-healing lotions. Or, at least, my skin reacts when I touch comfrey leaves.

Like another poster here I gave a large glass door cabinet filled with bath/shower products. Besides a very large shower I have a monstrous tub that gets used several times a week. I switch out scents each season.
Currently in the shower: Lush Rose Jam, Etro Heliotrope and a Hawaiian brand coconut pineapple shower gels. Orange Creamsicle bar soap and Davines hair items.
On my husbands tiny shelf allotment is Irish Spring soap and some horrid Sauve shampoo called “Marine”. He’s very understanding about my bathroom product frenzy.

Being introduced to so many new products here – so great!

I am a liquid hand soap/soap body bar person. For the first I have been hoarding Trader Joes Honey Orange Blossom. I looove how it smells.

My go-to soap bar is the baby one by Shea Moisture – the myrrh one. Great scent.

I also have a rose one by Schmidt that I havent tried yet. I try to buy all-natural fragrance for my body products which limits my options. I got the Andalou orange vanilla body lotion but wasn’t impressed.

If anyone has natural fragrance lotion or body cream recommendations do share!

There are folks here who make their own scented oils and lotions and such. Chocolatemarzipan has given me lots of tips and encouragement for oils. Koyel said that she makes some fragrance products herself, from what she gets from a garden.

I used a recipe from online that called for coconut oil, beeswax and a few drops of essential oil to make lip balm. It hardened to be very solid, but I like it. I’m sure there’s a way to make the lip balm so it has a softer texture. And there are recipes for lotions out there that involve melting down shea butter and such.

I don’t know if this is quite what you’re looking for, but I make my own mixes of body oils and add perfume to it.

I need my skin products to be highly functional since I have dry skin, so that takes precedence. I used body lotions and creams for years and years but switched to oil a few years back and it’s what I prefer now.

My current mix is fractionated coconut oil (stays liquid at cool temps and is scentless) with a bit of shea nut oil, perfumed with Bronze Goddess. All throughout the winter I scented it with Shalimar, which was dreamy. Next up will be TF Orchid Soleil, but I need to buy some more first since all I’ve got is the last bit of a mfr sample.

I love body oils so this is a cool idea. Do you just spray the perfume into the bottle containing the oil? How many sprays?

Yep, as many as it takes to make it scented enough. I usually mix 1-2 oz of oil at a time with 15-20 sprays or something like that. Some perfumes work better than others. I’ve dumped a ton of Bronze Goddess into my current mix and it still doesn’t transfer to my skin. I remember the same thing happening when I tried it last year, come to think of it. Shalimar is just the opposite.

I am more of a soap person than shower gel but there are a few I do like for summer that work well with the scents I use and can also be used in the bath. Le Petite Marseillaises Mandarine and Lime, YR Grapefruit and Thyme which is great pared with Pamplelune or Hermes Pamplemousse Rose. For those who are heading to a Yves Rocher or online ordering, I recommend Olive Petitgrain products which are very green and fresh, and I also like Almond Orange Blossom. I have a small bottle of the Argan & Rose – it’s nice… lighter and way less expensive than Lush Rose Jam if you like that one. As for bars of soap there’s a Lush Sea Vegetable, Body Shop Green Tea, Saponificio Artiginale Fiorentino’s Bergamot and Gardenia, and lastly Pacha’s Dirty Hippie, an excellent patchouli soap I get at Whole Foods. ? ?

Mostly the usual in my shower at the moment… Yardley soap, Body Shop Olive shower gel, L’Occitane Citrus Verbena shower gel, Body Shop Cactus Flower shower gel. Which I really like. I have no idea what actual cactus flower smells like, and I’m sure different cacti would have different scents, but this product is citrusy, herbal, tart… I’d guess some fig in there if I were sniffing blind. Which I suppose I am, since they don’t list the notes other than the mythical Cactus Flower.

Also trying to make a dent in my accumulation of little bottles of shower gels. Thunked a little one of Crabtree & Evelyn La Source earlier this week, I always like La Source. Next up… will probably make a blind grab into the bag o’ Molton Brown minis.

Packing up for a quick jaunt to Yosemite, it’ll be nice to get a break. Work has been Way Too Much of late. Hope SoCal folks are doing well with all those quakes! We seem to have a fire somewhere near-ish… can’t smell the smoke but sure can see it. Hazy hazy. Fire season is here.

I panicked a bit when I read that, but I still have a number of those miniature hand cream tubes left, and some larger bottles of body lotion. I should have gotten more of the ‘Evelyn’ rose products when I had the chance. I’d seen an e-mail about that being discontinued. I just ordered a miniature tube of the hand cream, which was all that was left of ‘Evelyn’ rose products, and a box assortment of the miniature hand creams. The shipping is expensive!

I am trying not to buy more bath products until I use up more of my current stash.
Shower gels in my current lineup are:
    Pacifica French Lilac
    C&E Sweet Almond Oil
    C&E Honey & Peach
    C&E Island Night (indolic jasmin
C&E Iris (Love! Of course they discontinued it)
B&BW Happy Vibes (Citrus on steroids) It was a gift but I like it.
    Bliss Vanilla + Bergamot
    Amouage Lyric
Boutique, Wild Fig & Cedar. It’s actally handwash but reminds me so much of Bois de Violette that I keep it in my shower.
    YR Monoi (Almost empty!)
    Soaps are:
    Maga (Gorgeous scent)
    Carnation Shea Butter
My most favorite moisturizing product is organic Aloe Vera gel. It is awesome from head to toe.
This is currently in my bathroom. Luckily, I don’t have share with Mr. Petunia so lots of space.

SOTD is Vientiane by Providence Perfume… I am currently loving this and have worn it for several days straight.

I’m like Gail, this list does not include what is squirreled away:

Pert Plus shampoo (this belongs to the hubster)
Pantene sheer volume shampoo (went grey, so no need for the fancy stuff)
    H2O+ Sea Salt body wash
MFK a la rose shower gel (been hoarding this one)
    L’Occitane shower shake shower oil
    CVS gentle skin cleanser
    Lush Happy Hippy
Redken clarifying shampoo that they don’t even make anymore (only the dregs left from having colored hair)
I had Fresh Cream Warm Cashmere in the rack, but decided to save (hoard) it for the winter.

    I love these polls!

I started out this morning in AA Pamplemousse because I spied it in the fridge. Went to Penney’s to look for a summer dress, didn’t find one, but walked out of Sephora doused in Prada Candy Night and clutching my fragrance and skin care samples…?

SOTD = Profumum Roma Acqua Viva

Zesty lemon, cedar, incense and quite long lasting on me – 3 spritzes finally sputtered after 7 hours.

On rotation right now and not my stash:

Shampoo and Conditioner – Shu Uemura Art of Hair Cleansing Oil Shampoo and matching conditioner. It is labeled for dry hair and scalp… Mine is normal and these work really well…so well that I will be stocking up when Barneys Beauty Bag event rolls around again

Shower Gel/Cream: I just thunked Le Labo Iris 39 Shower Gel. Currently finishing up the remnants of Harry’s Fig, Solstice Scents Creamy Whipped Soap in Riverside Hayride and Clinique Body Butter Shower Cream. When I feel like it I pull out: FM Portrait of a Lady, Chanel Paris-Deauville, Chanel No.5 L’Eau

Bar Soap: the supersized Commodity Orris (methinks this will be in the soap that would not die category)

I’m late to this party, since I’m travelling / not much on my computer, but it’s fun to see what everyone else has in their showers!

I’m afraid I’m with the more minimalist crowd here — my shower has:
    – Davines shampoo and conditioner (not much scent)
    – Homemade espresso soap, with a bit of chocolate scent in it as well
    – Homemade shaving soap, with Brambleberry’s Energy fragrance oil in it

Currently in my shower while travelling I have a couple of travel bottles of Aveda rosemary-mint shampoo and conditioner from my last hotel stay, which keep the kid happy. Also, we pretty much bought out the kids’ bubblebath section of the local DM here in Germany, as they have so many fun things for kids (volcanoes, bath bombs, colours, etc.), and they’re so reasonably priced, like everything here. But otherwise just the Davines for me and a generic soap.

I suppose I *should* up my shower scent game…but then as my workplace is scent-free…maybe not. I have been known to hit up Lush occasionally, though mostly these days just for the kid. The things that happen when you become a parent…

Like others among you, I am a soap bar person.
Currently using Le Petit Olivier Fleur d’Oranger which I get in French supermarkets, Victoria at Bois de Jasmin likes it too, Dove bar to wash my hands; on the shelf, Pacifica Tahitian Gardenia, Miel by La Maison du Savon de Marseille, Pepins de raisins scrub soap from a Provence market, Savon d’Alep Extra, and R&G Oeillet Mignardise which reminds me of my childhood, I stock up in pharmacies in France – the scent is a little less clove-heavy than it was back then but I’m glad it’s still around.

Inspired by Jonette who first started a thread on Rosa Absolute line, it is my scent of the day, another quality of the EDT is that it lasts very well on my skin.

I’m off to do some perfume-browsing! The problem over here is that shops usually only have testers for the most popular scents. It gets really expensive, ordering samples. Both the Bijenkorf and Douglas carry Jo Malone French Lime Blossom. I’m also hoping to find testers of Prada infusions D’iris edp, Estee Lauder Bronze Goddess eau fraiche (I have never smelled it because no one ever has testers) and Estee Lauder Tuberose Gardenia. Wish me luck!

SOTD is my sample of FM Lipstick Rose. I once had a sample in the past. Don’t know if I love it enough to spring for a fb.

Good luck! At the Estee Lauder counter by me, not all the testers are out. Some of them are kept under the counter.

I came home with a bottle of Bronzed Goddess. It was the only thing on my list I could find. It reminds me a lot of the Lancaster summer edition edp from a couple of years ago. I think it was called “Capri”. The Bijenkorf was pure chaos, with crowds of tourists and other people hitting the summer sales. Everything I wanted to try was either only available on the webshop or sold out (and no testers ever for those). Ici Paris and Douglas also didn’t carry the other scents. I bought the EL at Douglas. The Bijenkorf in Amsterdam possibly stocks some of the scents, but I’m not able to get over to Amsterdam.

I’ll have to order samples from online sources, if possible.

With FMs, I usually manage to find the individual nomad sprays on ebay. I forget if they are 7.5 or 10 mls now, but it’s enough unless you love it enough to wear often.

I love the concept of soap leaves, though I don’t know that I’ve ever used any. I wonder if they’d be a good thing to bring to the beach (where public restrooms – if you can find one – always seem to be out of soap.)

I’m always concerned that the next soap leaf will get wet and turn the entire container into mush.

I don’t like the sample packets because they are usually messy to open and what do you do with what’s left?

I suggest that samples should be packaged with a facial cleanser-like cloth soaked with the soap.

I’m trying not to hoard bath items but am down to some of my favorites now so will need to start buying back-ups. Currently in rotation:
Alba Botanica Midnight Tuberose and Diptyque Revitalizing Shower Gel (I almost always have these two as they’re firm favorites). Chanel Paris-Deauville, Chanel Coco, Elizabeth W Lilac, Thymes Goldleaf.
I also have a huge bottle of unscented face wash to go over my neck and underarms after using the scented stuff because I’m sensitive to fragrances in the summer when I’ve been sweating. Silly to use them, really – but I don’t care.
(OMG, I had enough time to actually post a comment!)

Currently in my shower: Bliss Lemon & Sage soapy suds, Softsoap Pomegranate and Mango shower gel, and Dr Bronner’s peppermint bar soap. (Pretty pedestrian fare, I know lol, but they all smell great!) But what this post really got me thinking about were my younger and more indulgent days, when I spent more freely on the luxurious and the hard-to-find…bath items have always been as much of a weakness for me as actual fragrances, and maybe even more so. This sent me down an internet search rabbit-hole, looking for things like Florence Gunnarson bath oils and Barney’s Route du The shower gel…things I haven’t though of, let alone purchased, in years. Then my mind wandered to Crabtree and Evelyn’s patchouli soap, which I know has been discontinued for years, but really was the best-smelling soap ever, not to mention having the loveliest packaging… I decided to just check out the C&E website for the heck of it – sometimes companies re-introduce “back from the vault” items, so you never know? Imagine my surprise when I saw that the website has almost nothing on it and everything that remains is marked down to 70% off? I can only assume they are going out of business? Does anyone know anything about this, and when it happened? I’m admittedly a bit out of the loop when it comes to the latest fragrance news these days, but I thought that surely I would have heard something about this! I know that the company has been a far cry from its former self in recent years, but “back in the day” they made so many beautiful products, and I associate them so much with my college years in the early 90’s. Does anyone have any info on this?

Yes, me too! I used to use their Spring Rain and Summer Hill lotions and shower gels when I lived in Germany…longer ago than I’d like to think…over 25 years ago…sigh. And I had those scents in drawer liners and sachets that I used all through the ’90s. (Just found a Spring Rain sachet in my old oboe case when I pulled it out because the kid wants to play it now.) I link C&E with Laura Ashley and the whole late ’80s flowery aesthetic I used to do — did they ever really resonate beyond that? (I have been into their stores periodically over the past few decades, but only to find those two scents which seem long discontinued…)

Love these polls, I always come away with a list of things to try. Our shower space is limited. We have a local soap shop here that I want to support and their soaps are great. For summer, currently I have Bergamot & White Tea soap, Vitabath lime citron basil body wash and Olay in shower body lotion which is a year round staple. Also some Dr Bronner peppermint liquid soap diluted half and half with water, nothing cuts through that sticky humidity of summer as well as it does.

I’m a little late to the weekend party here but on the subject of shower and bath stuff, mine isn’t that interesting at the moment. I do have question about after bath stuff, specifically dusting powder. Mom wants some nice powder. She used to love the Jean Nate powder but that’s impossible to find. Her friend got her something from the drugstore that she describes as “whorehouse” which is not what she wants to smell like at 90 years old. I sniffed it and it does kinda stink. She put it in another container with a powderpuff so I have no idea what it is. So any thoughts on nice smelling, inexpensive powders?

There is an interesting article on frankincense (olibanum) in the New York Times:

    https://www.nytimes.com/2019/07/05/science/frankincense-trees-collapse.html

Unfortunately, increased demand coincides with increases land use around the trees, and there is a danger frankincense will go the way of sandalwood. ?

    Yay for US women’s soccer!

I am currently using a lemongrass verbena olive oil soap from Ojai Oil Company from a trip last summer. It’s quite nice.

Today I am sampling Imaginary Authors Memoirs of a Trespasser and Panah Gourmantic Orange.

MoaT has too much campfire for my taste. 🙁 I may need to scrub it which is rare for me but it’s radiating quite a bit from a dabber.

GO is nice…kind of smells like a high-end orange popsicle so far.

We are a month and a half into our Master remodel. DH and I are camped out in the guest bedroom and sharing 14 yr old DS’s bath. DS has stolen all of my shampoo, claims it makes his hair “fluffy”. I’m paying him back by using up his Lush Rose Jam. We are all too afraid to use DD’s (17 yrs old) bathroom. I’m late to this party, but have enjoyed reading about everyone’s shower supplies. Made note of a few things to try.

I’m in the minimalist category, I’m afraid. Currently I have a couple of B&BW gels, Forever Red (smells like strawberry fruit candy to me) and Under the Sea micellar gel, or something like that. I can’t remember the name but it’s nice and salty. A couple Pre de Provence soaps, Linden and a Honey scented one. I actually prefer bar soap, but sometimes they leave my skin just a little too squeaky clean. I have hard water, so it’s not always a guarantee that they’ll lather well, either.

I have a hard time spending much money on bath products, because you only enjoy them for a few minutes before they go down the drain. Much rather spend my money on perfume, that I can enjoy for hours.

Oh yeah. SOTD is Un Jardin sur la Lagune. Have been giving it a proper trial the last couple of days, and liking it more and more.

I’m definitely a minimalist too. My shower stuff consists of whatever I find on clearance at TJ Maxx.
      Currently it’s:
      a Claus Porto soap ($3)
      JASON jojoba shampoo ($4)
A huge bottle of Joico conditioner ($9)

But then don’t ask about my skin care routine. I spend WAY too much on that!

I ended up wearing Philosykos to the movie yesterday because a fig perfume seemed to fit well with the Swedish midsummer festival setting of the movie. After my shower yesterday, I put on Floris Honey Oud. I could still smell Honey Oud on my arms this morning, so I topped it with Laura Mercier Nuits Enchantees since they’re quite similar. It’s a cool, cloudy day so NE worked. Had a delicious brunch at a nearby restaurant that always has a wait. I’m glad we decided to go today because we waited only 5 minutes for a table. Doing laundry now and will have a phone call with a friend shortly. It’s the friend whose wedding I’m attending in Chicago next month.

I am a bar soap person in a shower gel world. The best part about bar soap is that there is not a lot of packaging to recycle (or worse, discard). I do have a tube of BBW Coco Shea body wash to use just as bubble bath. I buy a new BBW every 6 months or so for that purpose.

Soap currently is Sea Kelp Scottish fine soap (tub) and Beekman White Water (Shower). The Beekman soap is pricey but the scent doesn’t bother my husband (he dislikes anything floral) and the bathroom smells great – and the big, hard bar lasts a long time.

I am sorry to hear about the Crabtree and Evelyn demise. I used to splurge on their goat milk soap – and some others – in college, as there was a little shop nearby. I also looked forward to getting C&E soap in my stocking at Christmas.

Scentless today for day of household chores and exercise. I ordered some samples from Luckyscent. I have been very good – no perfume purchase yet for 2019 but I have bought a lot of samples to “research” my next purchase. As my perfume collection grows, I get pickier.

Very happy to see the sun today! Yesterday’s nasty weather was a little close to home for me… the tornado in NJ was about 6 miles from my house. I did not even know about it until later in the afternoon, when I was in Trenton for a minor league baseball game. I had a great time with a bunch of friends, even if we did get rained on for most of the time. Happy I was told to bring a raincoat! ☔??

SOTD = back in Terracotta again today. It blooms so beautifully in summer’s humidity and heat!

Yes, there was some sun. It was still hot and humid, though. It’s supposed to be less humid tomorrow, so I may try to get to the pool at the local YMCA during the day.

I saw on the news about the tornado near where you live, but they said it had damaged a couple of warehouses and flipped over a car or two, but that no people were hurt. Still, I’m sure it would be alarming that a tornado hit a few miles from your home.

Minor league baseball games are fun if you’re with a bunch of friends. I remain amused that at most ballparks they’ll play the song YMCA, with the enthusiastic participation of the crowd. And I hear it at suburban dances and parties, too. I told a senior citizen gay gentleman about how that song was so popular. He was nearing 80 and didn’t get out much. “No!” he said. “Really? Do they know what that song means?”

“Apparently not,” I said. He was shocked, since he knew exactly what the song meant, and had been living in New York City at the time the song came out. It seems it’s just become a fun participatory song for all ages, and has completely lost its context. I had done enough history reading to also know exactly what the meaning of the song was. So it amazes me a bit to see thousands of people at a time singing it unironically, unaware of the campy aspect that was originally involved. Go figure.

SotD = Eau des Merveilles, yay!

because why not? and it’s been a long time. 😀

Bath products are at a minimum in my house. Though after reading through these comments I have about a dozen open tabs on my browser, all the things I’m lemming hard! Molton Brown Ylang is making me drool!

I have a bar of Trader Joe’s Lemon Verbena soap in my bathroom. The smell is wonderful. A bottle of Suave Tropical Coconut shampoo a friend gave to me also smells great. It’s not at all overwhelming, doesn’t smell like food, very nice! I’m not picky about shampoo though. I often use Trader Joe’s tea tree scented shampoo.

And finally ther is a big bottle of Shwarzkopf Color Freeze conditioner my hair stylist recommended after I had my hair highlighted for the first time ever a few months ago. Works well for softening my hair, I sometimes use it instead of shampoo since for the first time in my life I have dry-ish hair now that it has been processed. The smell is strong when using it, floral-powdery, but it rinses clean.

Hope everyone had a wonderful weekend. You all smell fantastic!
