Tuesday scent of the day 4/30

Posted by Robin on 30 April 2019 187 Comments

Happy Tuesday! It's also International Jazz Day. What fragrance are you wearing?

I'm in Byredo Flowerhead. I had not worn it in ages and forgot how pretty it is.

Reminder: on 5/3, wear lily of the valley for May Day (which is really on Wednesday).

And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2019, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

Note: the Tom Dixon Bump Teapot ("Bump is a family of minimalist, borosilicate vessels designed to serve as the ritualistic instruments of every day drinking and hosting. Delicately handmade with subtle levels of pink and grey tonal translucency. Even the strainer is made of glass.") is $200 at Coming Soon.

It snowed here last night! Gah! I’m wearing Dark Passage, of which I wish there was more. (Anyone know of a close-ish dupe for this chocolate patchouli iris?)

Ohhh Dark Passage is gorgeous stuff. It is one of the most unusual scents I own (and very goth)…. I need to dig out my bottle and wear it again sometime.

I wish they would add Dark Passage to the regular Tauer line. I can’t think of anything close enough to it to bother. There are aspects of it in the Mugler Taste of Chocolate flanker that is likewise discontinued, and there are lots of other iris/patch things that lack the chocolate part.

Parfums DelRae Début to start my Lily of the Valley week.
    Tea is Montagne d’Or (MF).

I quite like that teapot, hugely impractical though, glass teapots only look nice for a day or two, or you have to seriously clean them all the time. It is very pretty!

    Good morning Friendly Fragrant Folks….

Wearing Hermes Eau des Merveilles EdT. I’M IN LOVE. Where has this fragrance been all my life? I’m definitely going to be exploring the EdV Bleue, L’Ambre, Claire des Merveilles, and so on and so on and so on! Sample list growing by the minute…..

I had to strip pack a bunch of tablets today (pharmacy chores!) and the machine gets pretty dadgum hot when it’s running. The heat blowing on me really made this fragrance gorgeous, I have to say! 🙂

I enjoy using scented body butters on my shins, which seem to get dry year round now. It’s a fun way to sneak fragrance under the radar most of the time… some lotions and body butters are so scented that there is no hiding or disguising them!

I might try a thing this week where I wear my perfumes that purport to have LOTV even though I can’t smell it? Today’s choice is vintage Diorama which I definitely don’t think smells GOOD, and is enough of a mishmosh that I can’t pick out any one note… it does make me have feelings though? Perfumes that make you have feelings are so interesting, they’re always so hard to pinpoint or put in words, it’s like they’re tied to that one scent in a way you can’t describe or explain.

The weather is just right, started cool and became gradually sunny and warmer, and I am in Gianfranco Ferre Ferre, the 2005 one which is irissy (the names are very confusing). It is by Pierre Bourdon who made FM Iris Poudre and when I read this on Bois de Jasmin I looked for Ferre which was so affordable and a firm favorite.

Scent of the morning – Penhaligon’s Lily of the Valley (finished my sample). A nice realistic lily of the valley note, but something in this perfume smells unpleasantly sour.
Scent of the afternoon – Atkinsons The Nuptial Bouquet. A very clean, white (even pale) lily of the valley. Unfortunately, it reminds me of a laundry detergent, so this one is not for me.

All is right in the world because I watched the amazing Game of Thrones episode last night. Talk about the edge of your seat. I was eating dinner at the same time and kept putting my plate aside so I could focus solely on the show.

I wanted to wear a lilac perfume since the lilacs started blooming just under a week ago, and I still haven’t smelled any in that wild yet! I hadn’t worn Desarmant this year and had recently pulled out my decant, so it was my obvious choice. Having only worn it once or twice, I was expecting a straightforward, pretty lilac. Desarmant is a rich, oakmoss-leather-lilac concoction. Initially I was disappointed to not be wearing a pretty scent today, but I’ve been really enjoying the complexity and challenge of this one.

Mission of the next week is to get my nose in some lilacs!

I’m wearing OJ Woman today, feeling sophisticated.
Sad day though: the senior living center manager called to say I had to bring my cat back home. They said it had gotten out into the hall twice, and Mom said it wasn’t hers and she didn’t know where it had come from. Also she had tried to pour milk for it and spilled milk all over the floor. I just took it over there on Saturday and as of yesterday she was delighted with it. So I was surprised. I went with a friend to collect the cat. Now Mom was sad and crying and asking why she couldn’t keep the kitty. I felt just miserable. I know she just doesn’t remember things at all any more.

So that’s a teapot? Ummmmm. I thought it looked a lot like a hash pipe. ?? I had some interesting friends back in the day…

Had a kitty steeplechase earlier this afternoon. Somehow a fly got into the house. I did not even notice until all 3 cats started acting strangely. When all of them ran in the same direction, then I knew what was up. Fortunately for me, Teflon is an excellent huntress, and took care of said fly for me. No need to get the swatter.

Wearing a few sprays of vintage Diorissimo tonight. I should wear it all week as its so very nice.

When I sprayed it on, I kind of had a flash-back to a toy I had YEARS ago when I was a kid (probably giving away my age here, lol.) It was a little doll encased in a turquoise green holder. The doll was definitely enveloped in a lily-of-the-valley fragrance as I loved to open the top of the container and sniff the scent. She even had little lotv flowers in her hair. I do remember being a bit obsessed with the whole thing way back then.

Mandarine Glaciale for the win. Next I’ll do a side-by-side with Orange Sanguine.

Still learning what I don’t like. At first it was, “I like ALL the smells! I want that and that and that…” So I’m actually happy to discover a no!

There is some note common in Atelier’s Clementine California and Cedre Atlas as well as Hermes’s sur la lagune that I don’t like on me. Concluding it’s some if the woody notes.
