Chanel Paris-Riviera ~ new fragrance

Posted by Robin on 15 April 2019 11 Comments

Chanel will launch Paris-Riviera, a new limited edition fragrance in the Les Eaux de Chanel collection.

Paris-Riviera was developed by Chanel house perfumer Oliver Polge, and was inspired by the Côte d’Azur of the 1920s. The notes include orange peel, petitgrain, neroli, orange blossom, jasmine, benzoin and sandalwood.

Les Eaux de Chanel Paris-Riviera will be available in 125 ml Eau de Toilette. It will be sold for one year starting in June.

The notes sound promising, and in Chanel’s wheelhouse! I like the Eaux series, they are relatively simple but still low key sophisticated.

Do you know if the previous three Eaux are LE? I have been going back and forth about purchasing Paris-Venice, maybe it’s time to make up my mind..

They were not announced as such and are not listed as LE on the Chanel website. But that is not definitive of course.

Ooooh, definitely on the “must try” list. They did a really good job with the first three. Benzoin and sandalwood sound a little heavy, but the others hit an interesting sweet spot with making colognes out of weightier materials.

Sounds right up my alley! Plus, pink juice, well, pinkish.. I wonder if they ever get these at Sephora or Ulta, or if they only live in the department stores…

I’ve seen the first three Les Eaux at Nordstrom.

I love Deauville and Venise so I’ll be eager to try Riviera when it hits the stores.

I wonder if they will ever take their Les Eaux inland , away from the coast and do something based on Switzerland , in reference to the time spent at Lausanne ( I think she is buried there). A nice mountain fresh, alpine lake or vineyard lakeside scent.

I shop the Chanel website. Their prices are either the same or lower than elsewhere and you get 2 nice samples & quick free shipping w/ each order (and free returns – – if you actually have the cojones to pull a return on the Grand Dame of Fragrance ?). I had Deauville in my shopping cart, but ended up getting un Air de Bretagne from Sak’s instead as a “did my stinkin’ taxes” present. I’ll order Deauville next week as a “did the stinkin’ yardwork” present. Wish I could get my hands on a sample of Biarritz and this new Riviera one. Gonna have to head up to D.C. for that…

This is my favourite in the line.

VENISE I found cloyingly sweet. PARIS … pink rose… meh. DEAUVILLE: not fond of the sweetened bazil note, and it’s far too shortlived for the price (don’t understand the praise it got – I’d much prefer a bottle of Eau de Guerlain for that type of classy Eau Fraiche). BIARRITZ: great opening but ruined by the boring white musk base. EDIMBOURG: strange fruity boozy hybrid of a fragrance, I prefer my vetiver dry and earthy.

RIVIERA is delicious. It’s also very Chanel, with a clean, chic, soapy sandalwood and bonzoin drydown. The last part is admittedly not the most natural smelling and a bit generic, but I got to love its understated character. The opening is stunning: gorgeous, refreshing orange – fruit and peel – overlaid with a smoothly blended white flower cocktail that lasts a good while. Hints of neroli and jasmine, but nothing stands out. Delicious. The kind of fragrance that recalls summer days on a grey autumn morning, but definitely with character and refinement.
