Monday scent of the day 3/25

Posted by Robin on 25 March 2019 212 Comments

How can it be Monday already? It's also the International Day of Remembrance of the Victims of Slavery and the Transatlantic Slave Trade. And yes, the swapmeet is still open! It doesn't close until a week from tomorrow, so you've still got plenty of time. What fragrance are you wearing?

I'm in the fantastic Blackbird Y06-S, currently in what Kevin called its "strong and steady banana note" phase. It's going on my buy list.

Reminder: on 3/29, wear an orange blossom or neroli fragrance, if you have one.

And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2019, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

Heeley Oranges and Lemons Say The Bells of St. Clements.
Despite the name, I think its dominant note is neroli.

I think the name is what attracted me even before smelling it.
It’s a clean, soapy, natural-smelling citrus cologne – neroli, lemon, bergamot. Smells somewhat masculine. I like it a lot.

A steady banana note sounds really intriguing! I only have banana conditioner which I like, but I’m not sure if I would like to smell (like) banana for a full day?

I’m accidentally early with my orange blossom. SOTD is Artisan Parfumeur’s Histoires d’Oranger.

I’m wearing Donna Karan Cashmere Mist since I have a routine doctor’s appointment this morning, but when I get back I’m going to imitate Jiji and put on some Nicolai New York. Debating whether or not to put CM on my swap list but it falls under the category pretty, inoffensive, innocuous which is sometimes hard to find without a perfume being totally boring.

Cloudy and rainy day, but seeing crocuses in bloom everywhere makes any day bright and cheerful.

Wearing Dame Perfumery Bergamot, Jasmine and Labdanum. Sample gone! Such a pretty powdery, creamy jasmine with a nice woody drydown. I am surprised by its longevity. Usually Dame perfumes are very fleeting on me.
    Have a good Monday everyone!

Ooh, that Y06-S sounds like a must-try. Anyone else love a different Blackbird scent while I’m ordering samples?

I’m wearing Terracotta, the perfume that broke my no-buy – it has been on my wishlist forever and a tester price + coupon would not be denied. It has been a while since my sample ran out, and when I sprayed it on this morning I momentarily thought I’d remembered it wrong! The top is a little too creamy-sweet for me. But an hour later it’s so beautiful I can hardly stand it.

Haie Fleurie du Hameau from my newly arrived very vintage bottle–the box says Jean Laporte on it (as well as L’artisan) and the bottle looks like the MPG ones. Still glorious but a little sharper than my more recent bottles and hey, it even qualifies for the community project since it contains orange blossom

Hey lillyjo! I was catching up on the comments last week and saw yours on “what would hajusuuri do” and would have spewed any liquid I was drinking at that time but thank goodness I wasn’t. Anyway, congrats on your AdV travel spray purchase! It’s a bummer that you have not received the GWP that was as advertised. Good for you for insisting on getting what was promised. So what would I do? If I was buying something because of a desired GWP, it actually would have started with me taking a screen capture of the web page with that info “just in case” there’s a dispute. If it did not come with the order, I would call (like you did except I will only make one call) and if the person couldn’t help me, I would ask to speak to the supervisor and will not take no for an answer (a call center has to have at least a manager and/or team lead). If that person couldn’t help, I will keep asking to get to the next higher level manager. Once I am with the last manager standing, I will tell him / her that unless I get the GWP by a certain date, I will dispute a portion of the charge with the credit card company. If you’re asked to return the other GWP, tell them you will send it back only if you first get a shipping label that you will not get charged for. Also, with the call center, you shouldn’t have to repeat yourself – tell the manager to review the notes taken by the previous CSR and/or have the previous CSR explain the situation; explain again if you think the message got lost. Good luck!

Ha! I’m so glad you saw that post! I had wanted that travel set for a long time, and the gwp seemed like the right time to get it, as you know, I was very disappointed that it didn’t come with my order. Those customer service folks are tough cookies, I was told twice a manager would call me back. The third time, I did get to a manager. She is looking into getting me the correct gwp, and will contact me today. Good advice from you, as always ?

Don’t trust them if they say a manager will call you. Call centers live and die by metrics so if you can stay on hold, stay on hold until a manager can come to the phone.

Right now, I’m sampling Pekji Zeybek on one wrist and Masque Milano Hemingway on the other. Oddly, I am getting a root beer smell from the Zeybek! It’s really good, however, and I like it. Just don’t know what combination of notes could be making this happen. With the Hemingway, I think it is the vetiver and ginger that is most pronounced.

Later, if both of these fade, I’ll put on AG Neroli. May have to wait a while before that happens. If it doesn’t, I’ll wear the AG tomorrow.

In Dylan Blue and smelling like nice shampoo. Wish I was in a neroli scent–this one is making me sneeze this AM.

Feeling a bit grumpy myself as I just blew through our erstwhile “vacation” budget for flight and hotel reservations in a small town in Ohio in the freezing rain next week to visit another college with my son. Oh the places we will go . . .

The Rock Hall is a perfect thing to do on a crappy weather day. Cleveland has lots of great museums (full disclosure: I live there! Well, just outside the city.)

If art is your thing, I strongly recommend the Cleveland Museum of Art too.

The museum looks amazing, but we won’t have enough time. I just made a reservation for a hotel and for R&R Hall tix in Cleveland. If you have any downtown lunch recs, I am all ears. I am most excited about seeing Lake Eerie. I’ve always been a coastal gal, but read a lot about the trade and shipping on the Great Lakes when I was young. I have never been to any of the lakes.

There’s a beautiful view of Lake Erie from the Rock Hall! I don’t often venture downtown for lunch, but the food scene in Cleveland is surprisingly good, so you’ll have options.

Still in hospital waiting for surgery tomorrow. My nurse came and gav me a fresh gown and helped me have a bath and brush my teeth so I feel much better after a bad night. Just put on the April Aromatics Liquid Dream which is the only thing I had in my purse when I came. My brother is here helping address my mom’s situation so I can relax and de-stress a bit.

I’m wearing vintage Box of Eels parfum today, it’s evaporating fast and there’s no sense in hoarding it. I’m decluttering today, stuff that just accumulates but never gets thrown out. Old eyeglasses and their cases, scratched sunglasses, curtain finials that didn’t fit the rod, a basket that held Christmas treats long since eaten–you know the kind of stuff that hangs around. It will be nice when this stuff is gone.

I totally borked it on the swapmeet and forgot to post over the weekend, so hopefully someone will actually see my post over there!

Today I’m wearing Venezia, and over the weekend I smelled Shalimar Souffle de Parfum and was left feeling insulted by the experience. I don’t usually get my wig in knots about flankers, but it’s like smelling a perfume from several rooms over. A perfume that accidentally got thrown in the wash. It’s such a pale boring nothing. At least Parfum Initial had oomph and personality, if not much Shalimar DNA.

If you do want a light Shalimar, the newer cologne is very good. I think of it as Shalimar Summer, because that’s when I wear it.

Going to Florida on vacation (for me; for my fellow travelers, a trip, since they are all retired except for the tour director) had me thinking of retirement…which is still quite a ways away. A couple I know is moving to Florida imminently. Their house is being built. They had been effectively retired since both got laid off a few years back and have all the time in the world to research the “best” places in Florida, considering the weather, population, proximity to services, etc. I didn’t pay attention to where exactly they’re moving (I’ll be more aware once they actually move in a few months).

SOTD = Les Infusions de Prada Mandarine

On theme with neroli and orange blossom. The oppoponax makes it smell like it has iris. Beautiful, perfect for spring!

I was baaaaad yesterday with 2 impulse purchases. Macy’s had a 15% off beauty and I got No.5 L’Eau Body Oil and a 50mL bottle of the original Tiffany.

Vacation was nice (I posted towards the bottom of the LWP) but I am also glad to be back. I had a few days off before leaving for vacation and I organized a few sections of my room. I have at least 3 bags of stuff to donate and I am sure there will be more. I will check out the swap meet to see whose wishes I can fulfill, especially with samples. I have a lot (150+) new manifacturer’s samples. I will actually count because I am curious.

I spent the morning in vintage Mitsouko extrait and commando post shower. I spent the past week getting rid of subscriptions and streamlining some financial stuff. So far, I came up with around $175 saved. Bark Box and Amazon Prime are the only ones that have been saved. I am dealing with two full bottle spray bottles that are showing signs of evaporation and they are Epic and LADDM. I guess I have to wear the snot out of them before I lose them. I think I will wear Givenchy III today and vintage one at that.

Lucky you, having gorgeous weather today! ? It looks like the rain will stick around here into the overnight hours. At least it wasn’t a heavy rain.

You just need an orange blossom that works in rainy weather. I have L’Heure Bleue and Elie Saab L’Eau Couture lined up for the cooler days with a chance of rain this week.

I’me very late posting today; in fact I should be in bed, but I’m following the voting in the House of Commons.

SOTD was Givenchy “Pi” again – it’s in rotation with 2 other perfumes Sat to Thu and on Fridays I can wear a sample of something else. Got some nice decants coming though.

Sunday was a rare sunny day and pretty warm out of the wind. TOMK had a really enjoyable walk through the protected area of sand dunes north of Scheveningen, the old fishing port and now beach resort part of The Hague. All the bushes are just poised to burst into green over the next weeks. At places it was so still and calm we could hear hardly a noise; then over the next ridge birds would be calling of the sound of the sea would suddenly come to us – it is strange how sound behaves in that landscape. The Other Mr. Koenigsberg is a great Nature lover and has been missing the canals of Birmingham or the parks of Malaga, so I was glad to see him drinking in the atmosphere of the dunes.

Today is a non-working day for me. I spent the day on company admin and generally pootling around. Back to the grindstone tomorrow. :^)

Glad you and TOMK had a good day doing your own things! It sounds like you both are making the most of your temporary residency!

Late to reading the Monday posts, but just wanted to say your day sounded really lovely. And thanks for clarifying what TOMK stands for!
I’m old, so always assume there is some “code” that I’m not in on. 🙂

I’m wearing Arielle Shoshana today. I ordered the travel spray because I fell in love with the top notes, but the dry down is absolutely amazing. This is really special stuff.

Love and hugs to all of you. I got some bad news today which just made me appreciate the light in the world even more. This community is definitely a beautiful shining light. Thank you.

Appreciating the light is a good way to keep things in balance. Enjoy the Arielle Shoshana–that punch of passion fruit is delightful.

Aaaaggghhh! It’s the end of the work day, and I haven’t applied a single spritz of perfume ALL DAY. It’s been one of those “hit the ground running” days, and I just managed to sit down and log onto NST.

I am intrigued by the Y06-S – I’ve only smelled banana in Sira des Indes.

I am going to stop working now, and go find myself some gorgeous perfume to wear.

    Monday is almost over, everybody!

Put on a couple sprays of Natori tonight, just because. I just love the bottle shape and how the lid snaps on.

I should have enough Orange Blossom fragrances for a few days this week?

I am all in on orange blossom/neroli week. With samples, I could probably do at least two weeks. Today I’m trying, for the first time, 7 Virtues Neroli Jasmine. It opened with a loud, breezy Jasmine, and dried down to a slightly spicy floral melange. Not as much Neroli as I was hoping, but quite pleasant. Think I’ll check out the Swapmeet, although I don’t have much to swap. I’m thinking about blind-buying some Guerlain Insolence, though, so I may have something for next time.

Crazy day, haven’t read many comments yet. Probably won’t be able to read or post much tomorrow either. I wore Jo Malone Basil and Neroli. Lovely stuff.

Yes, I agree! Orange blossom and neroli perfumes have been some of my favorites since getting into perfume years ago so I have a LOT to choose from this week.
