Very sensitive to musky tones

Posted by Robin on 30 August 2018 11 Comments

That was the first step [because] I wanted to get her impressions. So, I had her smell some of the very basic ingredients and then I just watched ... to try and get a sense of what she instinctively reacted to. She’s a very instinctive woman — very reactive and spontaneous — and, at that time, she showed that she was very sensitive to musky tones.

— Perfumer François Demachy on how actress Jennifer Lawrence influenced the new Dior Joy. Read more at Jennifer Lawrence isn’t just the face of Dior’s new millennials-focused fragrance. She helped inspire it too at the Los Angeles Times.

I tried this on a strip on Monday and while it seemed well-put-together, of course it was nothing special. Indistinct flowers and a white musky base. While certainly not as bad a let-down as Gabrielle, what’s the point of your new pillar smelling like a flanker? Say something new!

Then maybe your flankers can be better than the original? One can hope.

I hope, but this dewy, not-sweet floral peaked for me with Idylle so I have a hard time investing too deeply.

Sounds like a poll, though: Wear a flanker you like more than the original. Actually, did we do that already?

I think we did? FWIW, I prefer Hermes Elixir des Merveilles to the original Eau.

We did, actually I think more than once.

          (and my pick: Organza Indecence!)

I thought so! I went with Burberry Brit Red, somehow a sophisticated oriental with a touch of rhubarb.

Sigh. Disappointing, though not surprising news.

This information actually makes me like this perfume less. Why am I supposed to care what Cameron Diaz instinctively reacts to? ???????????? ✌????

This information does not sound very convincing to me either way 🙂
