Tuesday scent of the day 8/14

Posted by Robin on 14 August 2018 329 Comments

Happy Creamsicle Day! (Yes, it's also Monday's Ugly Little Sister.) What fragrance are you wearing?

I went with Kerosene Unforsaken. Tea at the moment is a Keemun Hao Ya from The Cultured Cup.

Reminder: 8/17 will be Guessing Game Friday, edition 2. Describe your perfume to us, OR, give your perfume the name it ought to have had, and we'll see if we can guess what it is.

And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2018, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

Note: the Bloomingville Zoe mug is £6.50 at Huh Store.

Guessing game. My SOTD is by L’Artisan, and it is one of their early perfumes. It has a lovely name, but they could just name it ‘Jasmine’ and it would be pretty accurate.

      Is it La Haie Fleurie?

I don’t know why, but I never realized La Haie Fleurie was a jasmine! Now I really want to try it – early L’Artisan was so great.

Sometimes it seems too indolic too me, but overall yes – a gorgeous one. For the days when you really want jasmine.

No, Elisa P guessed it (La Haie Fleurie). Actually I have not tried The pour une Ete, and the notes look good.

Ah, good choice! I only ever had a sample, but it is a lovely fragrance. Sadly I dithered about it too long and now it’s practically vanished.

          Enjoy your day!

Heh, I’m having the opposite reaction as Regina. I also never knew it was a jasmine fragrance, but have always wanted to try it because of the name. Now I think I needn’t bother.

Not dressed yet, but am in the remains of Lancôme Oud Bouquet. A blind buy which I swore not to do ever again. Getting some caramel so nice, if in the neighbourhood of Prada Candy. Will test further.

I’m glad to see someone else getting the Candy vibe. To me it’s more creamy though. I don’t get any oud, or bouquet.

I prefer Candy. The Oud Bouquet is so sweet on my skin, I can really only wear it in cold weather. I think this one really depends on skin chemistry because some people get alot of oud, and/or rose.

That’s interesting bc I get oud front and center. But btw the two, I definitely prefer Candy.

Creamsicle Day! Gosh, I can’t remember the last time I had one.

I’m taking L’Artisan Caligna for a test drive today (Thanks Jalapeno!)
So far it’s not a love, but I do like it, and prefer it to Philosykos, which is the only other fig scent I’ve tried. Caligna has a fresh piney-sagey-woodsiness that’s especially appealing in this heat and humidity.

    Today’s tea: Stash Chai White.

Neroli, I had something approximating a creamsicle last summer–a mix of soft-serve vanilla ice cream and soft-serve orange sherbet mixed together by the machine. It was DIVINE. Now I want one again.

Hey, I’m glad to hear that Caligna found a home where it is liked! It was a scrubber on me, unfortunately. Had one of those “exploding” notes with my chemistry that just took over.

Wearing Diorling EdC from a NIB bottle I was gifted over the weekend. I’ve actually never even seen Diorling in person so I was really thrilled when the “vintage Dior perfume” was in fact one of the rarer ones! It smells phenomenal, light brown leather and a chypre smile. Doesn’t last long but I’m not complaining!

I was gifted a decant by a kind NSTer and also got a decant in a swap. If you like fresh roses it’s worth sampling at least. It’s one that needs to be sprayed generously since it’s light.

Similar, but Kashan is maybe less fruity sweet and has the spice note. It also strikes me as vaguely creamy at times. I like both, own full bottles of neither, but if I were to buy one, it’d be the TDC (that kitty bottle, though????). I suppose one could have both if one couldn’t have enough fresh roses in one’s life.

I only ever tried it when I was waaaaaaay to young for it. So naturally, I didn’t like it (I think I was about 8 at the time, and loved the color. The taste was a disappointment for a kid who really wanted the bubble gum ice cream.) Now that I’d probably be into it, it’s long gone.

I liked it as a kid, myself, and probably picked it because of the color initially. I didn’tknow what a Daiquiri was. But I also liked pickled herring and black Sanka, ha! I’ve moved on from Sanka, though.

I am in Zoologist Camel, thanks to a fab sample pack from Regina (thanks, mon ami!). Thus far, I am loving it. Reminiscent of Arabie, but more easily wearable (more floral, smoothly blended, and no cumin).

I’m again drinking Betty’s Tearoom Blend, and wishing for some of Mrs. McCarthy’s award-winning strawberry scones.

It really wasn’t too heavy today because I sprayed lightly but it isn’t normally a scent I’d wear during summer. Remove the oakmoss from Mitsouko and voila. Although it does have the HG base but even so, it’s remarkably similar. It can still be found in travel spray size, which is what I have.

(“The four facets take turns expressing woody oudh, sweet amber, spicy saffron and warm musk. None of these facets attempts to outshine the others.”)

I’m both wearing and drinking it as it transferred to my teacup somehow 😉 The opening reminds me a bit of SSS Winter Woods, as it is cool and airy.

Actually, the top note was very melony, although melon is not listed as a note. The dry-down is innocuous, but pleasant, and rather fresh. I think that I just didn’t enjoy the top notes on this one. I don’t need a decant.

Guess: this fragrance, described as a “spicy oriental,” was created by the storied perfumer of a storied house and given a name suggesting — to me at least — that it reaches back a lot further than in fact it does (merely the early ’90s). It’s rarely mentioned (or worn, I dare say) to boot.

With two sprays, sillage starts out moderate and after a few hours it gets somewhat softer.
It lasts at least 6 hours on me.

    Hi all,
My SOTD is Dior’s Addict (from the older bottle). Boy am I glad I used only one spritz! This one grows more fragrant on me as the day goes on.

Today’s breakfast is a Peach smoothie with kefir, spinach, peaches, strawberries and flax seeds.

A neighbor gave me apples from their tree, so I spent last night making a few batches of apple dumplings. This house smells so good this morning – it smelled of apples, vanilla and cinnamon.

Yum! I wanna come over 🙂 I had a “mango Lassi” for the first time last week at an Indian restaurant. I had never heard of a lassi, but it basically sounds like yogurt & mango & ice. I wasn’t going to get one, but we were splitting the bill, so….

I adore mango lassi’s – I love the creamy sweet goodness. One of my favorite restaurants serves a rich one, and their chai tea is also stellar (probably because it’s sweetened with loads of honey and they use real cream in the mix).
Now I want Indian food for lunch!

I loooove mango lassi!!! A good one should also have some lime and salt 🙂 Pretty easy to make at home! Especially if you, like me, want to avoid dilution and therefore don’t use ice (frozen mango chunks work nicely!).

Wow! Look at all the comments already! Just rolling out of bed out here in the Wild, Wild West.

I’ll jump on board the CP today, but keep in mind I stink at games. Since I also stink at describing perfumes, I’ll just describe the bottle.

SOTD come in a hefty bottle with a fancy cap that reminds me of a gilded ornate onion dome. The perfumers name is three letters followed by three numbers. This particular scent is deliciously warm and cozy, ambery, and benzoiny- may have some laudanum in there too, who knows?! It would probably be considered a cold weather scent by most.

Off to catch up on comments and enjoy my coffee✌????

    SOTD = Iris Vetiver

Sprayed lavishly from a cut glass bottle that comes with its own pouch. My name is that of a song but for the life of me, I don’t see the connection. The price is not for the faint of heart but I’m worth every penny for my human.

Anybody of any shape or size can wear whatever they want. This is my unsolicited advice to petites with a long torso and short legs. One way to guarantee that you would look even shorter: pair a below the waist shirt with knee length shorts in a contrasting color. You can fool the eyes by: wearing the same color for your top and bottom, wear bottoms with vertical stripes or wear tops with a peplum.

    Commuting Woes No. 449:

A guy standing in front of the guy sitting next to me had pants so loose at the waist that when we arrived at the last stop, his pants fell down to his knees. Thank God he was wearing longish loose gray underpants. Oy!

I finished a jar of Solstice Scents Creamy Whipped Soap in Maine Moon. THUNK! And guys, I cannot buy any more of these as I have plenty…well, ummm, I may allow myself 2 jars when the fall scents are released. That’s it. No more. Keep me honest!

It is Soap with oils added and whipped to the consistency of an airier body butter. The texture is between Redi-Whip (out of a can) and light whipped cream that comes in a small plastic tub.

My scent is from a not-very-niche niche line, and was one of the first perfumes I ever fell in love with! Its most prominent note is a Middle Eastern spice made of the dried pistils of crocuses. There, this is an easy one 🙂

Today is Day Two of Operation Dress Better. As a scientist/engineer, I’ve skated by on jeans/t-shirts for the past four years or so. I miss looking nice! So I’m trying to make an effort to wear nicer clothes (my clothing is protected in lab by a clean room suit). Today, I’m wearing a flared black flowered skirt, a fitted blue, grey, and gilt blouse, and even earrings! Let’s see how long I can keep this up.

Haha. No one cares what I wear to work. I have gone through a very comfortable leggings-as-pants phase and no one has said anything except “Your leggings look so comfortable! and they have pockets! Where are they from?” I sometimes wonder if I could just roll in in pajamas and uncombed hair. Would someone at that point pull me aside and ask me to dress more appropriately? I kind of doubt it.

(And I hear great things about Noir de Noir, but I have yet to try it! I’m wearing Safran Troublant, as LizzieB guessed below 🙂 )

Oh, yes, ST! That would be the obvious choice ???? NdN is more rose-forward than ST, anyway. It’s nice.
I’m mostly in hospital patient units at work, and it kind of shocks me to see how people dress in the hospital environment these days. Female residents wearing uber short skirts or leggings as pants, plunging necklines, spaghetti straps etc. They dress like they’re going out clubbing!
But if I could wear PJs to work, I probably would…

I’m not done until August 25 – I also don’t feel like it’s helping me slash calories – but my positives are more even energy, (wine makes me very sleepy) and more self-control, in the sense that I always look forward to a drink to “help me relax” but now I have to rely more on myself

Another day in the mid-90s, sigh. I have a terrible tomato crop this year, it has been so hot the plant either doesn’t produce flowers or the flowers wither before being pollinated. Last year at this time I had pounds and pounds–this year one or two a week. Ah, well, maybe next year. Today’s scent no one would guess, a one man outfit from Chicago–I’m wearing Madhat Mysore Lime. Great lime note that dries down to a lovely creamy sandalwood (real stuff, too).

Our garden struggled this year too. I think we replanted cucumbers 3 Xs. I am getting tomatoes and eggplant though.

I love that mug! It sits right in that sweet spot between a mug and a cup.

Figging it up again today in Premier Figuier on a base of Laura Mercier fig body scrub and body creme.

It’s a mup! I got fresh figs from Costco last Saturday and I am working through the tray …fresh, skinned, halved, with a dollop of balsamic glaze, topped with a crunchy Parmesan crisp. I was tempted to get prociutto bit it is kinda messy to wrap and not healthy.

No, no and no. I don’t like goat cheese although perhaps I can substitute with Bleu cheese. Honey sounds good as the ones I got this time around are not sweet…and as to baking, maybe I will microwave for a little bit instead. Thanks for the suggestion!

No doubt today is Monday’s Ugly Little Sister!

Smelling good in Arielle Shoshana Eau de Parfum. I found out this morning that I have less than what I was expecting 🙁 No wonder I wore it a lot after getting it from the splitmeet.
It is so fleeting on me. No more than two hours, even on clothes. Even though I love it, I do not know if I would consider a replacement after it is finished . Time will say….

Missing the “THUNK” a lot! 😀

Sounds like getting a sample of Arielle Shoshana makes more sense than buying a travel spray unsniffed then. I’m not sure I could handle having something last only for 2 hours. 🙁

Had a THUNK today with L’Eau d’hived (finished a sample from a generous NST’er). It was very powdery and fleeting. Totally do NOT need a full bottle, yay!

Better weather in my area today. ???? No crazy traffic reports this morning, although there were still a few road closures of some well known low spots by rivers and creeks. I guess I should clarify that because I live where I do, I can get traffic reports from parts of 3 different states.

If any NSTers are familiar with PA geography, it seems that yesterday’s storms got part of The Mall at King of Prussia a little wet. The food court and a couple of stores near it were closed last night. Latest news was that the mall was open today.

SOTD = back in Cristalle EdT. It’s been fantastic in all the stupidly wet and muggy weather.

I saw 2 (2!) rainbows on my way home from the train station. One appeared to be bursting up from the ground with fat fuzzy reverse ROYGBIV (is this even possible?) bands and the other one was the left side of a rainbow.

Yes, reverse rainbows do happen. If the sun is in the right spot with regard to the viewer, they can see 2 rainbows, a primary one and a secondary one.

From Wikipedia: In a primary rainbow, the arc shows red on the outer part and violet on the inner side. This rainbow is caused by light being refracted when entering a droplet of water, then reflected inside on the back of the droplet and refracted again when leaving it.

In a double rainbow, a second arc is seen outside the primary arc, and has the order of its colors reversed, with red on the inner side of the arc. This is caused by the light being reflected twice on the inside of the droplet before leaving it.

I’m no good at the guessing-game but really enjoy everyone else’s clues and guesses. SOtD is Mousse de Chene. Inspired by it being Creamsicle Day, I made a search of the frozen desserts section when I went to Kroger’s this afternoon, and came home with Kroger Deluxe Orange Cream Ice Cream! It tastes exactly like it should!

No guessing game here either. I’m wearing a few sprays of Chanel No 19 EDT again. I may have oversprayed last night as I could still smell it today at work, ever so slightly.

When we started our ‘tomato wars’ in the spring, my hubby and I each started off with little 2 inch pots. My hubby’s tomato now stands at least 5 feet tall plus he’s had to tie it back in multiple places so it can stay upright. He does have quite a few tomatoes too. Mine is waaaay smaller, maybe 2 feet tall, but has way nicer tomatoes; better color and bigger size. Will do a taste test tomorrow to crown the “winner”.
