Ormonde Jayne Ta’if Extreme ~ new fragrance

Posted by Robin on 25 July 2018 12 Comments

British niche line Ormonde Jayne has launched Ta'if Extreme, a new limited edition fragrance. Ta'if Extreme is a followup to 2004's Ta'if.

The carefully reworked fragrance displays an elegant twist on the the original Ta’If eau de parfum, available in the signature collection.

***

Ta'If Extreme is the perfect scent for sizzling summer heat. The Ta'if rose can survive and bloom on top of the dusty hills in relentless 45° heat. Ta'if Extreme - your perfect companion for a lasting summer scent.

The notes include pink pepper, saffron, dates, rose, freesia, orange blossom, jasmine, broom and amber.

Ormonde Jayne Ta'if Extreme is available in Parfum, £175, size unknown. 100 bottles were made, and the scent is exclusive to Fortnum & Mason in the UK. (They do not appear to be selling it online.)

Wonder why it’s exclusive to F&M when they have their own stand-alone shop? Their original Royal Arcade shop is gorgeous, but the Pavilion Road location, though equally lovely, didn’t last for long. Perhaps the Royal Arcade location is not doing that well?

Usually these arrangements are made to benefit both parties and to encourage the store to carry and promote the brand in general. I wouldn’t ever assume that a store exclusive meant the brand wasn’t doing well elsewhere. If a store knows they are the only one who has an item, it is worth their while to promote the item, knowing they will get the benefits, right?

Fair comment, Robin! For sure F&M is a ‘tourist’ destination while I’m sure many people walk past the very discreet entrance to Royal Arcade without realising what’s inside.

If this is actually an extreme version of Ta’if, I do not want to wear it in the heat.

These extreme versions are my top peeve in the scent world. 9/10 times, it means they have watered down the original scent, and now offer this super-concentrate. That way, they have people buy both; the concentrated at a highly inflated price, and made a better profit margin on the original as they utilized fewer raw ingredients.
    A pox on them all

Yes, extreme/extrait versions seem like a ripoff to me. Marketing ploy.

100 bottles sounds like a super-limited edition. Too bad: as a huge Ta’if fan, I’m curious about it but probably not to the extent of a blind buy at this price point.

For the Limited Edition extremes, I wonder if the perfumer just lets it sit for a few more years to mature so that the natural evaporation process concentrates the juice?
