The daily lemming

Posted by Robin on 6 July 2018 15 Comments

Flying Fox shower gel (top center) is back at UK Lush, as is Rose Jam, plus a bunch of others, some of which I have not tried — including Grass, Sultana, American Cream, Calacas, Avocado Wash (bottom right) and Whoosh (bottom left). Hope these all get to the US, and then hope I can get myself to the mall before they disappear again. And Lush, please bring back Wash Behind Your Ears!

Whoosh is a jelly in the permanent range. Rose Jam is now in the permanent range as well.
The LE gels were Grass, Sultana, American Cream, Calacas, Avocado Wash, Flying Fox and Karma.

At the moment only Calacas is left. They have already restocked once, all gels sold out so fast!
I bought 2 bottles of Grass, 1 Flying Fox and 1 American Cream. I just hope they do not get lost in the mail (happened before).

I hope so. I find Flying Fox almost too strong, but I have plans for mixing it with other things 🙂

I was a Lush fan before the company became Lush – its previous incarnation, many years ago, was Cosmetics To Go, with one physical shop in Poole on the south coast of England, & a fab mail order catalogue – no postage costs were charged, if I remember correctly, & there was always a ‘smellies’ freebie or a mini chocolate bar to surprise you when you opened your parcel. They did a gorgeous moisturised called ‘Steam Cream’, my husband swore by ‘True Grit’ soap, & I was a fan of their fragrances ‘Ginger’ (back then it was GBP 12.00 a bottle, & I lost count of the number of people, some total strangers, on a bus or in a shop, who would ask me what fragrance I was wearing) & ‘Hay’, which came in a tiny brown glass bottle & was apparently a post shaving soothing oil for men, although I used it as perfume & again attracted compliments. Their products, though a much smaller offering than Lush’s huge range, also had witty names. A few years ago they published a book about the beginnings of the company, & some of the products mentioned brought back happy memories. I remember at one point, again many years ago, the Covent Garden branch of Lush stocked a few CTG products but there had been an announcement this would be stopping, so I bought the last half dozen cakes of True Grit soap for my better half!

Carolyn do you still buy Lush stuff, or you liked them better back in the day?

Robin, I buy Lush products very occasionally – last purchase was Mechanic soap for my husband, for no particular reason! – True Grit was great for him when he did a slightly more hands-on job than he’s done for many years. I usually have a look into a shop if I’m passing – in Glasgow the other month got chatting to a very young male salesperson who knew exactly what the Ginger perfume was (not always the case) & told me he’d managed to acquire a sample & he loved it! I used to use CTG’s Botanomancy range as standard cleanser, toner, moisturiser, face mask but as with so many things. it’s been discontinued, plus I find Lush a little pricey. The ‘discontinued’ thing is a constant in my life, given how many times I’ve whinged about it on your great site!

Thanks, I was just curious! I find Lush WAY pricey now — the price of a large shower gel always freaks me out a little.

Isn’t their Ginger fantastic? I was lucky enough to snag a bottle several years ago and I’ve been known to “huff” it from time to time..lol.

I also still have a bit of the dusting powder in the canister. They need to bring this line back!

Completely agree, Gail! I just keep being told to keep an eye on the website for resurrected items when I mention what I loved from the CTG days, but none of my favourites ever seem to reappear. Saying that, even given the passage of time & related price increases, not sure I would be prepared to pay what they’d likely charge for the Botanomancy range or True Grit, never mind Ginger, these days!

Oh I loved Grass so hope it makes it back here too! Flying Fox seems to have had a number of fans so would sniff it if I saw it.

I loved Flying Fox and Grass. Would love to see those brought back here, even though my bank account shudders at the thought.

Totally agree on Wash Behind Your Ears. I’m slowly going through mine…ignoring their “use by” dates.
