Lazy weekend poll ~ open thread, Bloomsday 2018

Posted by Robin on 16 June 2018 286 Comments

Happy Bloomsday, and happy Father's Day weekend! We're celebrating everything with our usual open thread poll. Talk about anything you like — the fragrance you’re wearing today, what perfume acquisitions or de-acquistions you have planned for the summer, whatever.

Or, ask a question about fragrance, then see if anyone else has asked a question that you can answer…

    Good morning fragrant friends,

Spent the week in Chicago doing on boarding for new and hopefully take me to retirement job.

Flight home was so so delayed got to my front door at 2am.

And there was a box from Chanel with Paris Deauville inside.

    SOTD Paris Deauville!

I wore this all day before adding my thoughts.
I sprayed liberally and it has a nice burst of citrus. Then it moves to a fresh green orange lemon delight. It’s so well blended nothing stands out other than I felt enveloped by a lovely summer warmth.

I’m wearing Coco Noir today. I finally got this last year using points, and I’m so glad I did. It’s one of the few perfumes I can just grab and go, and stays with me all day. I’ve been suffering from a bad sinus infection most of this year. Nothing seems to help. Does anyone have any recommendations? Antibiotics don’t work, and I’m not able to go to a specialist.

I was going to recommend you see an ENT. If not , perhaps a neti pot? Mr. CM8 swears by it if you can tolerate using one.

Neti Bottle is easier to use. Do see a specialist – I had a persistent infection like that a few years ago and had to have a surgwry

    • LizzieB says:

I think I have the same issue…not painful just persistent congestion. Neti pot does help, but I need to be more consistent. I prefer the pot to the bottle. I think it helps to try and hold your breath as you pour it through. Sometimes when I take a breath, the water ends up in my mouth. So, I stop pouring, take a breath and restart. Good luck!

I think there’s a Coco Noir hair mist now. You smell great.

Do you spend a lot of time around cigarette smoke or other irritants? A former partner of mine was a smoker, and had persistent sinus infections, and they completely cleared up after he quit smoking. I would be tempted to audit my home and work for smoke, asbestos, radon, etc. On a related note, if you haven’t been tested for environmental allergens in a few years, it could be a sign you’ve got some underlying irritation from dust, mold, pollen, pets, etc. . . Maybe not enough to make you feel sick, just enough to increase your risk for infection?

I use Neilmed MS sinus rinse recommended by my ENT. Kind of similar to Neti pot idea, I think. It has been a lifesaver for me. In the past, it seemed like every virus progressed to a sinus infection and then on to ears. I rarely have issues any more, using the rinse at the first sign of anything coming on. Best of luck!!

Yes, the brand IS Neilmed. Product name is Neilmed Sinus Rinse. It’s a nasal saline rinse, not a Neti pot, but kind of a similar idea.

I sure love the fresh fruit this time of year! I picked 18 pints of strawberries last weekend, and now they’re all gone, I get to do it again, today! Dad made fresh berry pie with the ones I gave him, and it’s tempting to follow his wise lead. OTOH, I still have ingredients to make shortcake, and I’m not tired of that, yet. Enjoy your cherries!

I also sprayed L’Eau de Kasaneka on my shirt…I think this will be my summer go to because it is so easy to wear and I love the heliotrope/almond/musk vibe (thank you c!!!)….

No acquisitions in my summer plans but I do plan on finishing off some bottles….one was going to be Aloha Tiara but the middle Marzipan confiscated it ….I am not complaining because it smells amazing on her…..

OOO and I made a pie for Mr. CM8 for Father’s Day (HAPPY FATHER’S DAY TO ALL WHO CELEBRATE!!!!)….same as last week….frozen pie crust, two pints of fresh raspberries from the farmers market and two tablespoons of sugar…bake at 375 for 35 minutes…..

the youngest Marzipan and I had breakfast at our favorite guatamalan place…we are the only ones in there who speak fluent English which can make ordering a bit of a challenge but it is so worth it….he had huevos con chorizo and I had plantanos fritos….then we went to the farmers market together…looking forward to what he is going to make for us for dinner tonight based on what he bought…..

I make my pies low sugar like that all the time. Now my family can’t eat the sweeter bakery stuff, and this way I can justify a slice with yogurt for brek. ???? I grew up on an orchard of many fruits and we were always trying to use the fruit in various ways.

Vintage Ysatis from a mini. Love the aldehydic-soap-big-white-ylang opening. Not an ‘old’ school chypre as such but I do enjoy the whiffs of smelly breath in there down the road.

Vintage Ysatis bottles look to sell verry cheap on the nets so hurr durr. To balance, I listed some not so loved fumes (ok. . . . l’Artisans) on Ebay so that should give me some coin to spend elsewhere.

And the Socceroos lost 2-1 to France 🙁

If you are in Munich I would really recommend making a day trip to the villages in the Allgau/ Bavarian alps esp. Obertsdorf ( easy by train, about 90 minutes). These villages have traditional soap industries…beautiful dark green soaps made from fir, pine and cows milk. The pharmacies that make these soaps are incredible esp. Apotheke am Kurplatz Obertsdorf ( pharmacy in the square, Obertsdorf) Latschenkiefernsiefe ( fir soap) .

      For Berlin:
If you like art (pre-1900) I highly recommend the Gemäldegalerie. One of my alltime favourites is there https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Netherlandish_Proverbs

If you like dinosaurs, the Museum für Naturkunde has some awesome full sized skeletons on display

And of course there are tons of museums about German/berlin history
      I really enjoyed Tränenpalast
      https://www.hdg.de/traenenpalast/
And the Holocaust monument is impressive.

I LOVE Berlin!!! Definitely spend time on Museum Island. If you’re a big museum buff and are willing to spend a lot of time in them, it’s financially worth it to get the annual pass, even though you’re only there for a few weeks. (I was there for a month and went to enough museums that I spent my annual pass many times over.)

I also liked seeing the remains of the Berlin wall in Mauerpark. And you can have lots of fun going out in Kreutzberg. I also recommend trying a hop-on-hop-off bus so you can see the highlights 🙂

I do like Munich. Mostly I just like Bavarian food. I’m not nearly as big a fan of Munich as I am of Berlin 🙂 though its airport is infinitely better.

I’m in Iris Poudre. I have the next 4.5 weeks off. Going to force myself to wear scents I just don’t understand such as Parfums Delrae Mythique and the new EdP of La Pausa. At one point I hated Bottega Venetta eau Legere but forced myself to wear it for 3 days and now it’s in my top 10. Excited because I just ordered two books from Amazon to be delivered TODAY! I’m content with my “to-read” stack. Too short and I feel vulnerable like I’m going into winter without a provisioned fort but if my “to-read” stack is too high I feel guilt that I’ll never read it all and that I’m a fraud, LOL!

I usually have a pile from the library. Thankfully, I can often renew a million times . . . apparently, I don’t read books that are in much demand. ???? I also have the awful habit of starting a book, then not getting fully into it, but feeling obligated to continue the slog. So, there’s a subset pile of unfinished books that may or may not get read before I give up and return them!

At my library, new books can be kept for two weeks and can be renewed once unless someone has it on hold. Most other books can be kept for one month. During the summer, some books can be kept for the entire summer with the librarian’s approval.

          • Marjorie Rose says:
            16 June 2018 at 11:47 pm

I think I can renew nearly indefinitely. I’m certain I’ve had books for nearly a year and renewed again. . . Also, as a teacher, I can use my teacher card and keep any book for 6 weeks instead of the standard 3. It’s nice.

I think having a 2 week limit would feel like too much pressure for me! Like it becomes homework to read before it’s too late.

I have a like-hate relationship with Eau Legere. Many times I have put the bottle aside to send it to whoever wants it and then I spray on some and like it again. I am not sure about this perfume yet even though is very nice. Right now I feel it is not for me.

    Good morning & happy Saturday!
I’m so relieved that I have the time and energy to drop back in here.
Summer has well & truly started here and I find myself with an intense desire for a fresh and fruity perfume…not something I thought I’d be looking for. If anyone has some recommendations I’d be thrilled. I’m hoping for something featuring apricot or peach but not too little- girl or synthetic smelling.
The only thing that I can recall was a By Kilian but can’t even recall the name. It was also fun for 5 minutes but ran out of steam right after that.

Peche Cardinale is a well-loved and worthy of a sniff.
I own MDCI Vepres Siciliennes, which is the nicest quality fruity floral I own, hands down.
If you don’t already have it, I find Traversee du Bosphore fits this niche, too, although there’s more going on than just fruit and flowers.

Blowing about town in Yatagan today, nice and bitter. After wearing Vol de Nuit yesterday, it’s great to wear something cool and herbal.

I know I got out from a generous NSTer a year ago, so if you’re reading this, thank you!

Despite the heat, felt like something sweet, so sprayed on Kilian Black Phantom. Will probably add some Atelier Cologne Blanche Immortelle later, I love that one in the heat, like maple syrup baking on a hot rock.

Back from vacation and hopefully done with stressful/useless project at work – the annoying boss just wants to check boxes and is making us spin wheels for something that no one cares about. Every time I try to talk to her, we end up talking about her and not projects. Yukes!
I have a couple of bottles I want to acquire – Dusita Erawan (I am really impressed with her skills and the new bottles are a bit more affordable than the old releases), and Sex and the Sea. Both most likely will be brought to the splitmeet.

Well, I did it. I survived another school year.
    *insert Ben Stein “hurrah” here*

Actually, the year ended better than it began. But, I’m worn out. Packing up my room yesterday, I had to lower the lights and put my head down for a while, because the room wouldn’t stop spinning, and I was afraid I’d pass out on the concrete floor. No idea what was going on, except I’ve been exhausted for a few weeks, and had to push through to the end of the year. No way I would make a sub deal with kids the final few days!

My lessons the last day of school were 1) How to make friends (I showed them how to make friendship bracelets), 2) How to tell the future (M.A.S.H.–always amazes me how few kids know this game now!), and 3) HOW TO SMELL GOOD!

I brought in about 25 scents (some in decants, some FB), sprayed and labeled cotton balls in baggies, and passed them around. Mentioned notes, sillage, things like that. Made sure to bring in some weird ones, just to surprise them.

It was a big hit! One class in particular kept asking to sniff more, so as I’d brought in some samples to give away to anyone who wanted them, I described and passed around those, too. One of my boys went home with 4 scents, including Hypnotic Poison and Dzing! Hope his mom is openminded. ????

I also learned that my VP collects fragrances, too, so I’m looking forward to talking scent with her next year. Sounds like she sticks to the mall (Sephora, etc.), so maybe I’ll bring in a few harder-to-find things and see if I can push–*ahem*–guide her further down the rabbithole.

And omg, M.A.S.H., how many hours did i spend playing that on the bus, lol.
How did you all find out what number to use for counting out? We woukd draw a series of hash marks until the M.A.S.H.-ee said stop, then count them and use that number. I dont recall using a different approach, so am curious what else folks used ????

The way I taught my kids was to make a spiral in the square in the center and when someone yells STOP, I counted how many times my pencil crossed the spiral to go from one end to the other.

Have a great summer! My kids would have loved fun activities at the end of the school year–instead it always seems to turn into movie-watching in class. Even they think they should just go home at that point!

The last few days of school–heck, the last few weeks!–can be really tough. Kids who were barely holding it together start to really fall apart. They can be super resistant to learning, even when it’s made engaging. Some just shut down and refuse to do the simplest tasks. Many are anxious about spending the summer at home, which is not a positive, healthy place for everyone, and their behaviors can become extra-hightened (more loud, disruptive, aggressive, etc.).

All this to say, I have deep sympathy for the teacher who says “to heck with it” and shows a movie. I’ve been that teacher some years.

Of course, I also have sympathy for the kiddos who get stuck watching too many movies. Whenever possible, I think it’s great when teachers can coordinate, so that there isn’t just movies and parties for several days straight.

I think the best solution is that we make the last day of school a randomized surprise. Kids show up and one afternoon teachers announce it’s their last day and it’s time to clean out their lockers. It would get us around the crazy behaviors as kids shut down and tune out the last few weeks! ????

    Hello all!
Yesterday we had an integration meeting at work so instead of going to the office/lab we all went on a kayaking trip and then we had an open air party with barbeque, bonfire, drinks and music. We stayed overnight at a hotel where this party was organized and then everyone went back home today, so I just returned few hours ago. I was a lot of fun!

On a perfume side I had lots of things waiting for me in the mail when I came home. So right now I’m testing new Eaux de Chanel. Paris-Venise is coming in the lead followed by Paris-Deauville.

And by coincidence I wore Chanel Boy earlier today!

    Happy weekend!

Such a beautiful day today. Sunny, warm, breezy. I wish all days were like this.

I am sampling Pussy and Resist, two perfumes from House of Cherry Bomb, an indie line created by 2 Brooklyn based independent perfumers. Pussy is very green and refreshing with a good amount of jasmine fig, labdanum and leather.  Resist has jasmine, oud and cement notes. It is an interesting smokey perfume. Both are really good creations. Nice longevity, 4 hours so far and they are still present. They wear close to the skin. I am almost sure the projection will be better if they were sprayed, but I have dab samples. I am very pleased and happy to experiece the work of these local perfumers. Worth to try.

I ran errands early in the morning  and I am watching now some of  the World Cup soccer games and making artichoke/spinach dips from Elisa P and KellyC recipes. Thank you! I will bring them to my sister later today who is celebrating her birthday. Some friends and family are coming over, so I am sure the dips will be a hit. Tomorrow, visiting dad’s at the cemetery and more soccer games to watch.

    Have a great weekend everyone!

Lazing in bed with a reward for my hellish work week (which is not even close to being done but I seriously need a break from my desk and computer) … a small cuppa of the real deal with a splash of milk. I swear I heard angels singing as I took my first sip of . . . coffee. Wouldn’t say I am exactly falling off the wagon, just standing up on the baseboards and waving wildly for one glorious moment!

Big weekend perfume plan is to crack open one of the Les Heures Voyageuses oud samples Pixel gave me. I’m taking my husband and sons out for a Fathers’ dinner tomorrow and I plan to smell amazing.

    SotD = L’eau de L’artisan

I almost let this bottle go, now glad I was lazy and held onto it. I’ve had it more than a year, maybe two or three? Bought the bottle inexpensively and optimistically without trying it first. Uh-oh. Thought it would be a winner because I love cologne-style scents. It was just “meh.” Well, never say never, because today it feels perfect. Citrus-spicy, herbal-woody, hoping it will work in the heat of summer.

So sleepy this morning. At about 3:00 am fire trucks and police cars were flashing lights up and down the block. About 6:30 am a cruiser with a megaphone went by, repeatedly announcing that the police had found a 3 year old boy wandering. Surely hope his family has been reunited.

    Saturday to do list:
    1. yoga
    2. nap
    3. knit
    4. repeat

Good news around the neighborhood is that the lost little boy is home again. He was staying the weekend with his grandparents. He woke up in the night, decided to go home on his own, on foot, with no shoes on. He and his parents live just a few blocks from grandma and grandpa. But when you’re three years old, it’s hard to find your way home in the dark. I’m sure the family will be telling this story every Father’s Day weekend for the rest of this kid’s life.

Glossier You from a newly acquired sample. I’m terrible at describing scents so let me just say that this is a very pretty scent and I’m liking it a lot. It would probably fall into that “smells like expensive soap” category that someone mentioned recently. I also got a sample of Byredo’s Elevator Music and my first impression is: yuck! No me gusta! The opening is very off putting to my nose. It probably wasn’t a fair test to try it on one hand and the Glossier on the other. I will give it a fair test run before adding it to the giveaway pile.
I’ve been all about easy to wear scents lately, I don’t know if it’s the warmer weather or what. All the perfumes mentioned in the NYT’s article about The New Softies are on my list.

Hope everyone is having a wonderful Saturday!

Thought of you when I tested Andree Putman Peau d’Amour the other day. Similar vibe to Fleur de Peau. It’s definitely in the “softy” category.

Caught up with the local perfume people last night, and thought I should catch up here, too!
Also got a sample I forgot I ordered–DSH Cafe Noir–I think someone here recommended it for my ongoing coffee scent search.
It is definitely “noir” if that means spicy, a more bitter version of gingerbread spices plus some dark coffee (though the spices are winning over the coffee on my skin). It is great, so far, and definitely going on the to-ponder list.

Sorry to see the Glasgow School of Art in flames. I used to walk past it most days and loved the building . Wearing Prada Mimosa for a spot of yellow. Our prime minister is due to give birth this week. She is planning to take six weeks off ( compared to my 16 years off). Happy weekend!

It was *awful* to see it burn again, and so ferociously, particularly after all the hard restoration work done after the last fire.

(I once got to give a talk in the mackintosh lecture theatre at the GSA–I was a little overwhelmed by that.)

Preparing for tomorrow’s festivities: my mom’s bday celebration, fathers day, and my wedding anniversary celebration with my parents & hubby.
So, basically have to scare up some last minute gifts. Socks for my dad, a plant for his office, nothing for DH (we will go out for dinner separately), and ….something….for my mom.
Her tastes are the opposite of mine, so always a challenge.

Scents: fragrance is banned at my work (but not scented lotion or soap), so i stick to 1 spray down the front of my shirt, which bo one has commmented on to date. But, i dont vary the scent much cause i think that helps me fly under the radar. I have my own office, so it doesnt effect anyone (the problem was someones cologne in the downstairs cubicles housed in a stuffy room).

Fall/winter/early spring is SJP Lovely. I am switching to Prada Infusion d’Iris for spring/summer.

Whixh means i have too many daytime options to crowd into my weekends. Rich people problem, for sure.

    Freebies from hajusuuri

These freebies are for NST “regulars” (posted your SOTD or commented in the Lazy Weekend Poll twice between June 1 and June 15 AND responded to someone else’s SOTD or LWP comment at least once during this same time period). The regulars know who they are. One dibs per person.

U.S. only. Contact: Click on my username “hajusuuri”. Dibs here and send me an email. Not responsible for lost, stolen or damaged packages.

Unless otherwise stated, these are new.
    1) 5 x 5 Pack #1 – 5 mainstream manufacturer’s samples + 5 niche dabber samples (dabber samples are a mix of new & used; I will email a list and have you rank them in preference order but note that you may not necessarily get what you prefer)
    2) 5 x 5 Pack #2 – see above
    3) Double Trouble – Manufacturer’s samples of La Femme Prada EDP (x2), La vie est belle EDP (x2), Narciso EDP (x2) and My Burberry Black Parfum (x2)
    4) Lost & Found – Includes decants gone astray but found their way back to me – Guerlain Outernoir 2mL and Tauer Cologne du Maghreb 3mL. I will add a 3rd decant from my collection. I would asssume the first 2 are unused but I cannot guarantee.
    5) Mini surprise – 2 minis from my collection
    6) Perfumista Nightmare – For the person willing to “rehab” sludge at the bottom of an atomizer. Includes: Arabian Oud Kalemat, Chanel 31 Rue Cambon, Chanel Cristalle EDP, Christian Dior New Look 1947, ELDO Afternoon of a Faun, Fendi Theorema, Guerlain Mystery perfume, Keiko Mercheri Johana, Kenzo Jungle L’Elephant, Lush Snowcake, Mugler Pure Havane, Parfums del Rae Bois de Paradis, Tom Ford Tobacco Vanille. Used.
    7) Re-gift Pack – I’ll decide what to include once I know who selected this. Used.
    8) Slapping on a new label – I sent this split package to the wrong address and it was returned to me intact. So I will slap on a new label and send it on its merry way. The clue of what it contains – unscramble these letters to form two words: HUSSCODENARIL. You don’t have to solve it to place a dibs on this.

    Good luck.

So far I’m just in Clinique Wrappings lotion thanks to hajusuuri! I smell pretty darned good, I have to admit.

It’s been a rainy day here today which is unusual but it’s been sooo nice. It’s also cooled things down a bit which is good because it was unusually hot already, even for NM. Other than grocery shopping I’ve been mostly lazy, watching Call the Midwife which I’m currently binging!

Wrappings lotion smells wonderful. A dab on my arms this morning is perfect. I looked around and found five scented lotions here. Where do they come from? They must be taking lessons from the dust bunnies and ganging up on me. I prefer low or no-scent lotion on my hands, so I rarely reach for the more fragranced ones. Must change that and make it a habit to enjoy using them like perfume.

      Chummy is my hero!

I went out without any perfume because I was going to Ulta for a haircut today (thank God!–the frizziness was taking over). I didn’t find much there to try, though. What I did try was Mugler Aura, because I was utterly taken with that emerald green cut glass bottle. WANT! The juice could have smelled like most anything–I want that green gem! In fact, it doesn’t smell that bad. Maybe I’ll buy it sometime because the price isn’t out of sight. The bergamot or lime + vanilla combination is rather appealing, too. One of my Facebook friends asked yesterday for people’s Gazpacho recipes and that got me remembering about a delicious watermelon gazpacho that the chef used to make at my favourite local restaurant (sadly closed now). I looked up recipes and went to Kroger and bought the ingredients to make some–so we’ll see!! It has watermelon plus some tomatoes, and chopped and pureed cucumber, red bell pepper, and red onion. (I’m omitting the jalapeño because I’m wimpy). You also add red wine vinegar to temper the sweetness. I hope mine turns out OK! At least it’ll be pretty. I’ll report in on it tomorrow.

I’m supposed to be splitting a refill bottle of Aura which I bought at Neiman Marcus with discounts but I’ve been too lazy…I am also lemming the green atomizer. I was supposed to receive a mini from Nordstrom (for buying another perfume) but the Mugler rep was a no show. I may still remind the SA the next time I buy a bottle.

I’m in Hermes Jour d’Absolue on one arm, and Monsieur Li on the other…and I like them both! I’ve been considering springing for Monsieur Li, but I was giving this urge some time, in case it was more a matter of just wanting something new.

Speaking of something new(ish), I’m going to play around with weaving on a little hand loom this weekend. I had a loom as a kid, but haven’t woven in years. This comes up because:
-the library has a few books on the subject
-I have yarn and miscellaneous threads built up after years of crafting
-I’m in the (very warm) midwest, where it’s currently Very Pleasant to stay inside
-and it won’t heat up the house (like baking would)!

    Have a great weekend, everyone!

Many thanks to the commenters who posted about giving blood this week. I’m not sure why but I always thought it was some sort of scam, and the comments caused me to research it, and I realized how wrong I was. Just donated for the first time and have to say: it was very fast, didn’t hurt, and only took 30 minutes total. Even in my small town there are multiple convenient places to donate and maybe it will be helpful to someone in the world. I hope so.

Other good things: I tried a sample of Diptyque body oil a few months back which was crazy nice, if not quite the perfect daily scent for me. I made my own body oil and sprayed in a few sprays of Chanel L’eau and it is DIVINE! Try it, guys!!

Giving blood is no small thing, it’s the gift of life.
During the depression, my dad watched his father get transfusions in their kitchen from friends when he was dying from cancer.
It set a pattern in Dads life and over the years he became one of the top donors in the US. He also did platelet donations dozens of times.
      Good for you!

Oh wow. That’s a powerful image.

Now that I have done it and know how important it is, I plan on doing it every 2 months. I never really thought about the fact that there is no substitute for donation (nothing synthetic). It’s humbling to realize how many people have been making these contributions to our national health for so long.

I am hoping to be a bone marrow donor but haven’t yet been matched.

Thank you for donating! Yes, there isn’t really a good blood substitute that exists yet. They do have certain medications and infusions for people who won’t take blood for religious reasons. Some traumas/surgeries require very large amounts of blood, like 10+ units- 10 donors may go to one person. I’m not sure how there’s enough blood and blood products to go around, really.

I wore a multitude of scents today. I was straightening out my perfume cupboard and found Lux Champaca from CdG. It was quite nice but I wonder how it stacks up against OJ Champaca? Anyone know?

They don’t smell anything alike to me. I don’t know what champaca actually smells like, but the CdG smells like a strong white floral melange to me. I almost think it smells similar to LL Lys 41.
The OJ to me smells less floral and more like a nutty rice tea with a dash of citrus.

I have let work pretty much ruin all of my social outlets and am on a mission to take back some of my life. Last week I took an unexpected trip to Paris to attend a funeral. Very glad that I went – it was cathartic on many levels. I did have one day completely free and managed to get to the Grand Musee de Parfume. It was almost completely empty, and I had such a great time I actually almost cried. There is the most amazing exhibit; these small copper balls suspended from the ceiling. You turn the globe in the holder to light up the language you want, then pick it up and it puffs a bit of a scent at you, then you listen to a description and details about it. Each one is a different perfume ingredient. Amazingly, each room isn’t overwhelmed with scent and you can smell each exhibit!
Managed to get to Gallerie Lafayette and Jovoy. Sadly, GL no longer carries Mugler. I did get to smell the new Chanel trio. It’s been more than a week and the scent strip I brought home of Paris – Venice still smells lovely. Toured the new Diors but nothing really caught my interest. I did not buy anything for myself but got Enabler Husband Guerlain Ideal Homme Intense for Father’s Day and a sample of Lubin Jarden Rouge that I am obsessing over.
    Happy weekend, everyone!

It is so easy to let work and other obligations push personal needs like connecting with friends aside! I’m glad you got to spend a day with yourself and rejuvinate a bit–and all the best with finding your balance again!

The Grand Musee de Parfume exhibit sounds like, well – heaven. 🙂

Remember how GOOD taking that time for yourself felt, and perhaps that will help you to make it more of a priority.

Snagged a sample of La Pausa* the other day, and, though I drenched myself–best part of 1ml, it was gone, just gone within 30 minutes. I know it’s notoriously fleeting but that was just silly. I put something else on and carried on with my day, trying to sort out some chaos by sorting and cleaning (I am not the world’s tidiest person, and things… accumulate in tangles.)

In the evening, I was completely smitten by how I smelled, and could not for the life of my remember what I was wearing. Woke up this morning and was “oh, yes! Superstitious!” I’d never worn it through–I usually test samples in the evening, and had clearly slept through every drydown and didn’t recognise it from the fizz and bite of its earlier hours.

*I may have had a little voucher-and-discount triggered Bel Respiro-shaped accident at the Chanel counter on my way home from work.

Is that Antica Farmacista’s Daphne Flower? And how do you like it? I’m curious how much of a true daphne scent it has. It’s so cheap, that I considered a blind buy when it was first released.

It’s a gorgeous Sunday morning, and I’m lazing in bed with coffee and all you guys. Worked my behind off in the yard yesterday, and went through several scents – started off in Dior Escale a Portofino, sweated that off doing yardwork (aside: I cut back two thirds of a grapevine we have against a trellis and discovered that the tea rose underneath is blooming again), showered and put on Chanel Eau de Cologne for the evening, and added a bit of Jardin Sur le Nile at bedtime. Am scentless right now, but Crikey mentioned a Bel Respiro-shaped incident above and that sounds awfully nice.

I’m still in remnants of last night’s Tonka Imperiale. I haven’t worn it in so long, but it’s really enjoyable. My SOTD yesterday was Durga, which I loved but will not pay $350 for once my decant is gone. It’s a gorgeous tropical white floral with a sweet fruity aspect like banana. Yesterday was kinda low key after doing lots on Friday, my boyfriend’s birthday. Highlights were getting a scoop of perfect Peanut Butter Chocolate ice cream at Cupcake Royale (yes, they make cupcakes AND ice cream), walking through the park and watching a little of a quidditch match (pretty hard to follow), and finally watching LadyBird.

I had planned to finally give my Bracken Woman decant a full wearing, but I may end up reapplying Tonka Imperiale if it continues to linger. This is my second to last weekend going in to my part-time job. I’m ready to just have my full time job and reclaim my whole weekend with the exception of some occasional Sat work that my ft job requires later this summer.

Wearing Hermes Rose Ikebana today, after swimming in the pool with the two kids, who are both learning to swim. The touch of chlorine leftover after shower makes RI even better, which is hard to do. Such a great, refreshing tea+rose scent.

Wearing the discontinued Fresh Mint Leaf Cologne by Jo Malone & spending today at the gym and then the pool. Miami is hot and humid at the moment. After the gym I’ll smooth on some of that Bronze Goddess Cooling Body Gelee by Estee Lauder – love that especially post-sun and on a weekend afternoon.

Tonight I might make a greek salad with salmon.

Hey folks, the watermelon gazpacho turned out great! Here is a picture of it. I followed a recipe I’ll also post a link to. I used about 2/3 watermelon and 1/3 tomatoes to make it. You need a lot of vinegar to make it nice and tangy.

Mostly Aloha Tiare yesterday with some OJ Frangipani thrown in. Had a nice visit over raspberry lemonade with a friend and a nice time sitting outside in Bryant Park. (Before we met, I might have indulged in a peach milkshake…it was lunch!)

Wearing Kenzo Amour today from a little decant freebie….someone mentioned its cherry notes, so I pulled it out. Never been a fruity fan but this is nice.

Aloha Tiara smells amazing on my middle Marzipan who stole the bottle from me 🙂 It is potent but smells so good….

then this morning I gave myself a spray of Vanille Apricot and she said “what smells so good?”…guess what…another bottle found it’s way into her room-LOL! I know where it is so if I need it I can “borrow”.

Happy Sunday everyone. Since my hubs is now officially on his golf trip (he just left this morning, not yesterday as I was previously told), I pulled out L’Heure Bleue edp. Its going to be warm today, so I think LB will be glorious this afternoon during the drydown phase, although the bees may be attracted to me.

Tonight I may pull out Aromatics Elixir!

I like it a lot. I find it more casual and easier to wear than No. 5, the longevity isn’t great, i think about 4 hours, but it is very humid. I also don’t mind reapplying. I think It would be really good layered with the body cream.

My boyfriend is out of town for a week so I’m wearing all the perfume he wrinkles his nose at.
First up – Etat Libre d’Orange – Rien, which seems to be on a lot of perfume people’s wishlist over at Fragrantica. The incense is fine even if it’s a super hot day… but the pepper note is a bit annoying though on me, so I’ll side with the man on this one…
