Tuesday scent of the day 5/1

Posted by Robin on 1 May 2018 240 Comments

Rabbit, rabbit, rabbit! And happy May Day. What fragrance are you wearing?

I’m in two vintages of Diorissimo. Tea at the moment: boring but delicious Irish Breakfast by Upton.

Reminder: on 5/4, May The Fourth Be With You...it's Star Wars Day. Do what you like with the theme!

And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2018, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

Note: the Andrea by Sadek Bunny Toile Round Teapot is $35 at Fitz and Floyd.

        There are a few
One is Yamashiro uji, its about 10 bucks at a Japanese grocery store
My friend drinks this one and I like it: Sa ceremonial organic Matcha

If you want to splurge on a good one, my favorite is Ippodo.

        What about you?

I will check yours out too

There are a lot of tea places in the city (NYC) to discover matcha.

I sometimes add a rose elixir and make a rose flavored matcha with frothed milk.

I was on a meditation retreat and in silence for 3 days, when I come out of those retreats it takes me awhile to get back into it..
I was also scent free for 8 days and it’s been challenging getting back into perfume of any kind. Not sure if anyone has experienced this!

In the past six months I’ve taken a full month and then a separate full week away from wearing fragrance. It was an interesting experience both times to clear the olfactory decks, then it was slow going to come back to enjoying perfumes again.

Silence is powerful. Congratulations on completing your retreat.

Wearing Victoria Minka’s Hedonist Rose. It would have fit in perfectly at the cantina. The opening white wine note is really very nice.

I’m wearing L’artisan historie d’orangers. Probably the least star-warsy fragrance ever, but I’m not an expert. It’s just right for a warm spring day.

I had been worrying about perfume chemicals for a while after a miscarriage, but I decided the healthiest thing was just to worry less and do things that make me happy. I switched to non-perfumed soap, detergent and deodorant since I didn’t care about those scents anyway, and am enjoying my 2-3 spritzes of perfume again. Thanks to all the people who gave helpful advice a couple weeks ago!

Less worry more happy sounds like a good plan. I don’t use lotions etc. with scent because I want to enjoy the perfume scents I pick out too.

I can send you a sample if you’re interested, I got a big bottle. It has a definite suede feel to me, and I treat it as a pretty background scent. I’m bad at comparisons, but let me know if you’d like to try it out.

SOTD is Zoologist Moth. I definitely like it more than Hyrax, which I tried yesterday. I found that interesting and not disgusting, which some might well consider it to be, but not something I ever want to put on my skin again. Moth so far is fairly nice. I’m getting LOTS of honey and definite heliotrope and something smokey. I don’t like it as much as Civet and Bat, my two favorites of the line so far, but I do think anyone who likes honey scents ought to try this one.

SOTD is Aromatics Elixir. I think Princess I know i is a polarizing fragrance, but I like to think Leia would wear it – courage, passion and compassion (and a bit of stubbornness). I imagine her as a woman who would like to wear old-school chypres.

V&R Flowerbomb’d it today. It’s the one that led me down the rabbit, rabbit, rabbit hole of fragrance back in 2005. So many times I have abandoned it, deciding it’s too juvenile, too much of a reminder of my life before… well, before life happened. But, it’s so damn pretty in small doses. Doesn’t hurt to have a dry down layer of Maison Lancome Oud Bouquet lying underneath it either.

It was 80 degrees here yesterday people. 80 degrees! Pretty remarkable considering less than two weeks ago we got several inches of wet snow that clung to the tree branches Ansel Adams style. I slept with my window open last night and the trees literally grew green buds overnight. Today we are only supposed to hit 76. *giggling to myself*

SotD is the last of my OJ Champaca sample. This has definitely earned a place on “the list,” but (sadly) longevity seems to be an issue for me. I will enjoy it while it lasts…

SL la Myrrhe today! Uh, they might have worn it in the cantina?

…I’ve got to be honest; I forgot about the CP and just wanted to wear one of my new Parisian treasures. I was going to wear Idyllwild, which is kind of swampy and thus Dagobah-esque (upon suggestion from the boyfriend). I like Star Wars, but I am not a Star Wars nut, and really don’t have a great grasp of the subtleties you all have splendidly explored here.

Has anyone tried The Different Company After Midnight? Is it worth buying blind based solely on the color of the perfume? Does it stain your clothes? I waaaaaaant that beautiful blue-purple liquid.

I had a sample of After Midnight. Cannot say anything about staining, because I either spray scents before dressing or spray them on the areas no covered but clothes. So I do not remember any perfume staining my clothes ever.
As for the scent itself, I liked it more than other TDC creations, but not enough to get another decant after finishing the sample. It opens as a nice fresh floral but then begins to remind me of an air freshener. I would say the scent does not match the color of the juice.

I’m wearing a combination of Jour d’Hermes by Hermès layered over Fleur de Figuier body oil by Roger & Gallet. Unfortunately the Jour d’ Hermes doesn’t last long, hopefully some body oil will remedy that.

If I get interest in a split of 65ml, I will order it. I would offer 6/10ml decants at $28 each and 1/5ml at $14. US only. No shipping charges since I would use my office mail for it. It’s been a great Tuesday for me. Around noon I went with a friend to a rope park. They have couple of obstacle courses of different difficulty and at different height levels. It was so much fun and some parts were really challenging. Then we had dinner together, treated ourselves to some thai ice cream (the rolls) and then we went to see the new Spielberg movie ‘Ready Player One’ – I highly recommend seeing it. It’s a mix of fantasy, adventure and few more genres.

Happy May Day / International Workers’ Day!

I actually remembered to say “Rabbit, rabbit, rabbit” when I got up this morning—although it was technically the second time, and I only remembered because the first time I said it was when I happened to see my clock at 1AM. So I think I’m covered.

    SOTD is N°5 L’Eau.

Smellin’ good, Creosote! After I bought the 50mL, I saw the 35 mL at Sephora and just had to have it. I bring my 35 full bottle on vacation — it’s such a decadent way to enjoy perfume while on vacation.

Decants and samples are great, but I completely agree, it is luxurious to use a real bottle of perfume while on vacation.

And little bottle = adorable bottle! 😀

I adore L’eau. I reach for it ALL. THE. TIME. It’s perfect for the office, perfect for low key situations, perfect for feeling chic, perfect for SOTE. It’s just a great frag.

It’s the only perfume other than CdR which has caused me to contemplate TWO backup bottles. Why wait for it to be reformulated and then have to track down an old bottle, when I could scoop it up on sale somewhere now?

It really is versatile. Weather-wise, too!

There’s also the almost-yearly price hikes to consider, as well (as I was reminded by looking at the website the other day).????

SOTD: Chanel’s Sycomore EdP for weather that doesn’t know what it is doing… Cold in the early morning like autumn…then cold breezes like autumn but the sun has a got glate to it as if summer morning…then hot by mid-morning…cool again by mid-afternoon and cold at night. There is no way to choose clothes for this weather unless you wear a billion layers!

Yes! It was a sleeper-scent for me. I was given a sample and thought it was nice but not love the couple if times I tried it. But then I found myself reaching for it so often it was soon drained and I was forced to admit I needed a bottle 😉

Sounds funny to say ‘forced’ but there were ‘OMG LOVE!’ scents above it on the wishlist which were clearly not as versatile…if you know what I mean. First world problems lol.

This was how I initially felt about 31 Rue Cambon and now I love it. I am still working on Cuir de Russie (aka poopy leather).

            LOL.

That’s what happens to me with *most* Chanels actually.

I find that many of the scents that I don’t initially like, but then have a strange hankering for and keep reaching for, end up being true loves later.

    SOTD = Papillon Angelique

On theme with a celestial name and an out of this world unique fragrance. The interplay of mimosa, orris and incense is wonderful.

I am really digging Kilian Woman in Gold. I didn’t buy a bottle as I am considering waiting until the Bergdorf Gift Card Event or another deal from elsewhere. A bottle will be mine at some point. Have you tried it? What do you think? BTW, I originally liked Gold Knight better but not anymore. The key is more is more!

I remember that I tried it at Saks (on paper) … but from this point my mind is blank. It definitely means that I didn’t love or hate it but beyond that it might be anything… 🙂

I liked it when I tried it at the Honolulu Saks, but not enough to get the 1.7 oz bottle, and smaller sizes weren’t available. But! The adorable SA gave me a 10ml tester. It has grown on me, and is especially nice now it’s warmer here.

SotD = Jour d’Hermes for C-3PO, because they both make me smile, and Jd’H can sometimes have a faint metallic edge, which appeals to me in an quirky way.

Jd’H was an easy choice today. It always perks me right up. And now I’m sniffing around the edges of a decant of vintage Le Dix from a fan-tab-u-lous NST perfumista. I will enjoy a first wear of it this evening.

I forgot to rabbit, rabbit, rabbit this morning! So let’s see. In the night a shelf in my linen closet fell down because it was too full. As I tried to prop it up I mashed my thumb, so had to do hair and makeup with one hand in ice.

On the way to school my purse rolled over when I drove around a corner and everything dumped out. As I retrieved things from under the car seat, I caught my finger on something sharp and ripped off a big chunk of fingernail. Needed a band-aid after that.

This afternoon I am home again where I found a huge pimple has bloomed on my chin. And my daughter came home from high school early with stomach flu. I don’t like to complain, but this day teeters between hilarious and absurd.

Lesson learned: don’t mess with the rabbits. Tomorrow I will the carrot-y beauty of Hiris to appease the rabbits of May.

Wow! That even beats my day. I was rushing around this morning trying to find a necklace for my outfit and I knocked over my stand (of necklaces). I managed to lose a couple down behind a cabinet, so I will have to move everything later off the top and get my hubby to help me pull out the cabinet so I can retrieve them.

I had to reboot my computer part way through the day and instead of the usual shut-down and start, I just tried to restart (to save time). It took 1/2 an hour for my computer to come back to life.

Then on the way home as was getting into the car I somehow managed to bang my leg hard against the side. I have the most massive bruise forming now.

When I was putting on my SOTE (from my sample of Le Labo Iris 39) I spilled about 3 or 4 drops on the carpet as I fumbled it. That sample is doomed.

Exactly!! I think there is something to the Rabbit Rabbit Rabbit.. I have to put my little rabbit chochkie on my bedside table so I have better luck next time. And maybe put a monthly reminder in my email as extra insurance.

ha! yes, I agree, it has to be uphill from here. My Wednesday will begin with extra chants of “rabbit, rabbit, rabbit” (it can’t hurt) and lots of Hiris, Hiris, Hiris (for good day insurance).
