The daily lemming

Posted by Robin on 28 October 2017 8 Comments

Two of the many items I'd love to try from Ayurveda brand Spa Ceylon: Ceylon Tea Ylang Intensive Hand Cream ("The fragrance was created with traditional Ayurveda in mind, with mystical Ylang Ylang and sensual Tuberose to balance the senses and protect the delicate inner energies. A blend of Green, White, and Black teas provide soothing treatment for the skin and senses.") and Frankincense Kaffir Lime Intensive Hand Cream (" The fragrance was created with traditional Ayurveda in mind, with deeply calming Frankincense, uplifting Tangerine, and refreshing Kaffir Lime to help ease the mind and promote clarity. Soothing sandalwood harmonizes and balances any out-of-line chakras.") Yes, I'm pretty sure all my chakras are out of line. 30g for $7.95 each at Smallflower.

5 perfumes ~ vanilla fragrances for fall

Posted by Robin on 27 October 2017 42 Comments

(Quick PSA: I am on the road today and heading to a place with very limited internet access. I’ll be slow to answer comments or questions all weekend long, but I’ll do my best.)

Fall is not my favorite season, but even I will admit that it’s probably the best time of year for perfume. You can wear just about anything, and for many of us, it’s a joy to finally pull out some of the heavier woods and orientals that we’ve been neglecting all summer. As always, these are just my suggestions, and again as always, the line between the seasons is perhaps a bit arbitrary and/or personal: some of these fragrances wear just as well in summer or winter, and some of them work perfectly fine all the year round.

Indult Tihota: Vanilla cake, yes, but vanilla cake from perfumer Francis Kurkdjian…

Anouche

An animation for Anouche, one of the five new candles from Maison Francis Kurkdjian. ("Anouche rekindles the pleasures of the small apartment where I lived for a few years with my maternal grandparents, not far from the Vincennes castle, in the neighborhood of Paris. This candle captures the unforgettable memory of rose petal jam, one of my grandmother’s secret recipes.")

Friday scent of the day 10/27

Posted by Robin on 27 October 2017 406 Comments

Happy World Day for Audiovisual Heritage! It’s also Guessing Game Friday. Our community project for today: describe your perfume to us, OR, give your perfume the name it ought to have had, and we’ll see if we can guess what it is.

What fragrance did you pick? As always, do chime in with your scent of the day even if you’re not participating in the community project.

My fragrance: sumi ink, spices, incense. Really, I would have called it Ink and put it in a Japanese ink bottle…
