Jo Loves Fragrance Paintbrush

The new "fragrance paintbrush" from Jo Loves won't debut until the fall, but I know some of you will want it on your shopping list. It looks an awful lot like the new Byredo Kabuki, but it's liquid instead of powder. The gel formula reportedly took 3 years to develop, and according to Jo Malone, it dries on the skin in seconds. Look for it in Pomelo, Green Orange and Coriander, and possibly other scents as well, at about £40 for 18 ml. (via cosmeticsbusiness)

It is evident from Kantar Worldpanel’s usage data that many European women are fragrance lovers, especially the Spanish, with 72% of them using fragrance. This compares to 68% of Polish, 64% of French, 54% of German, 51% of UK and 50% of Italian women. This passion for fragrance puts Europe ahead of the US, where only 28% of women claim to use fragrance.

I’d call Nina Ricci L’Air du Temps “youthful,” except that I’m not sure anyone young today would wear it, except ironically. Yet, L’Air du Temps seems ill fit for a mature woman. I imagine it on a mid-century ingenue, say Natalie Wood. L’Air du Temps’s clean, full floral bouquet with a hint of clove is too innocent for most people today over the age of 16, yet, at the same time, too old fashioned to appeal to them.

Francis Fabron, author of Givenchy L’Interdit, also developed L’Air du Temps. The fragrance launched in 1948 — the height of Dior’s New Look…
