The daily lemming

Posted by Robin on 4 October 2017 8 Comments

Things you didn't know you needed, part the millionth: "Love the sensual, heady, sweet scent of jasmine, you say? Then you're going to want to run out to try the new Hai Beauty Concepts Stylset Professional Dryer, which emits the very scent while it's on. And why Jasmine? It's because some research indicates that smelling jasmine can help you relax, which is clearly something you need while dealing with a potential bad hair day." So says Allure. The dryer is about $135 at Amazon.

That explains why I love jasmine scented hair products in general, but I don’t use heat in my hair, so I’ll pass on that one.

I love the smell of jasmine in the shower too — Lush Flying Fox!

It seems like a gimmick: I spent some time looking but all websites just repeat the same official description or reprint one another but, unlike you, Robin, not bothering with quotation marks. Nowhere it says how the scent is introduced into the hair-drier or how/if it can be replenished. Most likely, it’ll just burn out in several months of using it – and then one will just have a regular drier. At least that’s how it was with my drier “emitting tourmaline (long time ago I bought expensive back then T3 with that claim – it still works but doesn’t smell any longer).

Even the description on the brand website is woefully inadequate at best: “Sweet jasmine scent released when powered on for a refreshing experience”. That’s it! If you really wanted one, I’d email them and ask questions.

Not too long ago, I was looking for a hairdryer to replace mine that must be at least 15 years old. I use it at least 6 days a week. Anyway, Target was having a $10 off sale on hairdryers so I thought, why not? Well, there were so many choices that I suffered analysis paralysis and ended up not buying anything. I was surprised at the price range: $35, $40, $50, $60 and jumped from there to high $80s and $90s. The one feature that I know I will be looking for when I finally get a new one is weight – the lighter the better so I am looking at having to spend on the higher end.

Scented dryers are not on my radar as a must have.

I use a relatively cheap Conair. It is much cheaper on Amazon than I’ve ever seen it in any store.

My mother uses an expensive BaByliss that I did find much nicer than mine — lighter, and dried my hair faster with less frizz. I can’t remember which model it was, I just know when I checked the price it was over $100 and I said forget it.
