Lush The Voice of Reason

A very happy Fugly Friday to you! Our community project for today: wear a perfume you own (or just like) despite the ugly bottle. Thanks to Nebbe for the suggestion!

What fragrance did you pick? As always, do chime in with your scent of the day even if you’re not participating in the community project.

I’m wearing a tiny dab of The Voice of Reason by Lush. Even the Beat poets and musicians who inspired it would probably prefer a slightly more appealing bottle. Doesn’t that bottle look like it holds cough syrup, or maybe an emetic? (But I’ll also add that I like that Lush uses unappealing packaging, and I would be very disappointed if they stopped…)

But is this nostalgia detrimental to the pursuit of imagination and artistry? Is the industry stuck on repeat? [Lizzie] Ostrom believes that “the thinking [behind the trend] is that younger consumers do seek to find a relationship with a particular fragrance, and that this offers meaning. But I’m not sure this reconciles with an equally strong urge in which perfume is about exploration and finding new experiences.”
