Le Labo Mousse de Chene 30 ~ new fragrance

Posted by Robin on 4 August 2017 17 Comments

Le Labo Mousse de Chene 30

Le Labo has launched Mousse de Chene 30, the new city-exclusive fragrance for Amsterdam.

Moss and patchouli are paired with their most incisive synthetic boosters, crystal moss and clearwood. Cinnamon, pimento bay and pink pepper spice it up to create timeless elegance that is reassuring yet surprising, tense, and addictive. For those that prefer less poetic descriptions, Mousse de Chene 30 is a neo-chypre (no, neo-chypre is not a poetic word) that is both traditional and progressive. Just like Amsterdam when you think about it…

Le Labo Mousse de Chene 30, along with the brand's other city-exclusives, will be available worldwide for the month of September. Samples can currently be ordered from Le Labo.

I dont get this concept at all. If you want to make city exclusives, at least incorporate a local scent note, get a local person involved. Whatever.

I dont see the connection with Amsterdam, or is there NOT supposed to be one and is this just a stupid marketing thing?

Or am I missing some info?

Argh sorry for being grumpy. I guess I am not the target audience haha.

Looks like they thought a modern chypre was a good fit with Amsterdam, and looks like that’s the only connection you’ll get 🙂

Oh me and my grande expectations… 😉

Amsterdam should be a filthy gourmand animalic with the smell of liquorice, stroopwafels, piss and vomit from small alleys, and sweaty armpits from hordes of tourists LOL

        Sorry. Grumpy again.

Amsterdam still has some beautiful spots, but the city centre is totally ruined by tourism.

I’m with Team Grumpy on this one, but comfort myself with that I don’t really think this will smell of oakmoss at all. It it was an easy note to duplicate everyone would do it.

A real shame because it’s probably my favourite note ever. At least I can still sniff my bottle like it’s an illicit substance.

      You guys are grumpy today.

I don’t think it will smell like oakmoss either — esp. since Le Labo does not name fragrances after what they smell like.

Except I was shocked to discover Baie Rose was practically a rose solifore! And kind of a boring one.

Yeah, but Baie Rose is nothing to do with roses: it means pink peppercorn.

Even a cannabis based scent would be more Amsterdam

I’m not grumpy. I just want to say I’m down with Jiji’s idea of the animalic gourmand. I mean, not the more graphic bits so much, but I think a scent with notes of licorice, stroopwafel, weed and a bit of sweat could be really interesting if done well.

Haha yes, if you leave the grumpy and graphic bits, it could be interesting.

Oooh man, the smell of fresh warm stroopwafels…it always makes my mouth water, immediately. 😀

And a whiff of Cannabis can be envigorating. Too much of it and i become nauseous..

I don’t even know what stroopwafels are but you are making me awfully hungry 🙂

          🙂

They are petty cheap, you can find them everywhere here in The Netherlands.

On fairs/markets there is often a booth where someone makes fresh large sized waffles…the smell is basically warm caramel and baked dough.

I read crystal meth instead of crystal moss at first.

What a coinky-dink! I have this in my hand right now! In Fridays I work near one of the Le Labos and happened to see the city excl sample set in the window so went in.
Not sure how any of the exclusives represent their cities.
Anyway, that aside, I kind of like this one but it smells like a mashup of some of their others. Won’t be buying it though.

Meh. It’s Le Labo so it’ll be another overpriced snoozer best suited for collecting dust on the Barney’s counter.
