Every other day the floors are washed with a very diluted solution of Pomelo cologne

Posted by Robin on 1 July 2017 19 Comments

We live in a completely white house with whitewashed floorboards. It looks like a beach house. It’s on three floors and it has a big terrace. Every other day the floors are washed with a very diluted solution of Pomelo cologne. The sheets are changed twice a week, and we love scenting all of the sheets and pillowcases with a very light Bitter Orange cologne.

I don’t even wash my floors once a week (although I’d love it if they were clean that often), let alone with cologne. Maybe this was not meant in a pretentious way, but wow…

I have a feeling it is not Jo herself doing the floors, either, and that if it was they would perhaps not be done so frequently 😉

Yes, the linguist in me got out her magnifying glass straight away at that use of the passive — “are washed … are changed” — ha!

This reminds me of an episode of Oprah where an audience member asked Dr. Oz how often the bedsheets should be changed. Oprah blurted out, “I think every three days.” Then she started to ramble on about how they lose their crispness after three days. Dr. Oz interrupted her and said, “Well not everyone can pay someone else to wash their sheets, Oprah!” 🙂

Must be nice! With two dogs I can assure you my floors are not that spotless nor fragrant. 🙂

Me too, as long as someone else is doing the work.

I am torn between: 1) wincing at the ostentation implied in that paragraph; and 2) thinking, “Hey, washing the floor with a diluted solution of cologne is a FANTASTIC idea!”

Of course, that would mean that I’d actually have to wash my floor….

You could just mist the floors lightly instead of washing 🙂

The other implied housekeeping hint in the blurb — don’t whitewash your floorboards unless you have household help.

You are so smart! Or have an inborn talent for floor washing avoidance. Those two things might be related. 🙂

Yeah, if I had that kind of time and/or money, I’d do that too. (Seriously. That sounds spectacular. I change the sheets every two weeks, and Certain Bedmates of Mine feel that even that is a bit overdoing it.)

Wow, sounds heavenly! She should release a Jo Loves Pomelo-scented swiffer wetjet; that’s the only way to make such costly and time-consuming housekeeping possible for me. :-p

LOL — next thing you know a quilted Gabrielle Chanel swiffer will run you $9980.
