The daily lemming

Le Coq Sportif + Guerlain sneakers

I don't need these, but you might — Le Coq Sportif + Guerlain have had Arthur Ashe Sneakers done up for La Petite Robe Noire, in a woven black and white leather braid design with the black dress on one tongue and a transparent rubber sole with silver sparkles. They also come with a scentable ceramic piece that can be worn as a pendant, and a sample of the upcoming flanker, La Petite Robe Noire Black Perfecto. €95, limited edition, to launch on 29 May at Le Coq Sportif and selected stores in France.

Who can resist a transparent rubber sole with silver sparkles? ????

      Uh…

Actually I think they’re great looking sneakers, otherwise.

Really cute, but no arch support, looks like.

I love these – even without the Guerlain connection. Figures that they won’t be sold in the US.

Now that is something completely silly but so fun! The shoes are cute, the tie-in (good) ironic, and the cost not astronomical for young folks who have some disposable income and no kids or a mortgage.

    Ding ding ding!!!

And yet Europeans are constantly sneering at Americans in their big white sneakers.

Has that changed, or do these have enough black in them to make them acceptable?

There are an awful lot of European companies, including Le Coq Sportif, making these kinds of shoes. I thought it was more the idea of Americans wearing nothing else, and wearing them everywhere for everything.

But look — this is not even a new article:

Interestingly in Canada, we call them running shoes or runners. Obviously these will appeal to the very young but for the more mature, I think it’s a horrific idea and totally incongruous.

I love them and want them and will call them George!

I still can’t get over “Black Perfecto.” Sounds like a cheap cigar.
    (But the notes sound tempting.)
