Penhaligon’s Agarbathi & Paithani ~ new fragrances

Penhaligon’s Agarbathi & Paithani

Penhaligon's has launched two new fragrances in the brand's Trade Routes Collection, Agarbathi and Paithani.

Agarbathi ~ "Light filters into the temple in luminous shafts. The sound of running water connects this moment to the outside. A plume of incense smoke signals a timeless, wordless peace. But whilst tranquility reigns, the rush of bergamot and pink berries reminds us of all of Life and its pulsing beat. The sacred resin Oliban blends into one with the omnipresent incense and a milky-skin deep accord. Garlands of Himalayan Jasmine, God’s own flower, hang ready outside, for the wedding festival to adorn the heads of guests. The jasmine, blends with the incense and lifts with light the sombre vetiver and the fragrant Indian sandalwood. Another sign of the sacred, and of Life." Additional notes include palo santo, suede and fir balsam.

Paithani ~ "Our mountain train’s arrival into Bombay was greeted by an explosion of sound that dazzled our reverie and shook us awake. Vivid colourful saris, Paithani, swirl all around, and to complete the sensory overload, before long there is the welcoming smell of spicy hot tea! Added to it, as tradition dictates, an agreeable explosion of spice (cardamom, nutmeg and pepper - the fragrant holy trinity). The soothing aspect of a silky, milky rose, serves as a rousing caress. Soon there is the famed cedar from Himachal Pradesh that blends with the smell of leather trunks. Because travel has always been the greatest feat of independence. And to best capture the feeling of our faithful companion, the sun - bountiful, low and full - rich amber infuses and illuminates the end of the day."

Penhaligon's Agarbathi and Paithani are available in 100 ml Eau de Parfum.

Update: Agarbathi and Paithani were developed by perfumer Alex Lee.

They both sound pretty good (liking the “milky” aspect) and really dig those bottles!!!

The ‘Trade Routes’ collection scents have been the most competent I’ve had from this house. Not that that’s saying much. But IIRC the only problem has been longevity, and that could easily be down to my skin.

Oh boy, well longevity is an issue for my skin as well 🙁

I like the milky thing too — have skipped most of this series but might want to try these.

    I’m sorry, Penhaligon’s, but that was tl;dr.
I’ll wait for reviews to start trickling in :).

Amen to that. I can very easily resist buying a 100 ml bottle for 2 C-notes, but I would be sorely tempted by a coffret of five 15 ml bottles for the same price……

More new ones, more outrageous prices – I envisage them discontinuing many more of their classics, if sales of the seemingly constant output of new ones take off.
