Hints of rose and peppermint

Posted by Robin on 13 March 2017 6 Comments

It’s not often that you hear commuters talk about how much they enjoy the smells of the city bus. But this month in Singapore, taking a deep breath in through your nose might not be such a risky proposition for commuters. In fact, they might even pick up hints of rose and peppermint.

That’s the “signature scent” being deployed over the next month to entice people to use more public transit.

Facinating! I like the idea, but it seems like the impact would be subtle, as the scent would reach people who already take the bus. I don’t really see it drawing in those who don’t use public transportation. Also, the baked potato button was funny. I’ve never heard of anything like that. “Smell-vertising” is now my new favorite word.

I like the idea in theory, but in reality public space scenting is usually annoying to me — I never like the scents!

Good point. I’m imagining a light and faint scent of fresh roses and fresh eucalyptus, but that’s probably wishful thinking.

I would be interested to follow this story as I wonder if there would be a backlash from the anti perfume lobby. For myself I would complain not one bit if they puffed rose/eucalyptus through the 149 bus Tottenham – London Bridge….

You would think so. If I was toting along my son when he was young and had serious asthma, I would not have appreciated the gesture.

huh! Beats having the scent of unwashed bodies and weed on Max and TriMet buses, that’s for sure.
