The daily lemming

Posted by Robin on 13 February 2017 7 Comments

A signed and numbered Lalique Amphitrite perfume bottle. This design was introduced in 1920, and if you look around online, you can find it in other colors as well (green, blue, purple). The one shown above is $3690 (ouch!) at 1stdibs.

I’m not usually a bottle collector, but that one is really lovely.

The colored ones are really spectacular, but could not find one on sale at the moment. Can’t imagine paying that much for any bottle, but it would be pretty on the dresser!

I love the stuff from this time period, you can see the sensibility starting to morph away from ornate elaborate Art Nouveau organicity toward the more hard edged, machined sleekness of Art Deco, even when they keep the forms of nature as their subject. This is a great bottle which shows this transition happening. I love seeing what images you come up, Robin.

Oh, thank you so much — you know way more about design than I do!

Hey Robin, just wanted to comment that this has been a fun new series! Like the luxury Christmas listings, but without the excuse of a holiday. 😉

Oh, I’m glad it amuses anyone other than me! But will really try hard to not make it all luxury price levels.

I like them too. I’m glad you added the tag. ☺
