Friday scent of the day 9/16

Posted by Robin on 16 September 2016 320 Comments

harvest-moon-0s

It’s Harvest Moon Friday! Tonight there will be a full moon with a penumbral eclipse. Our community project for today: wear a fragrance with a nut or grain / cereal note. If you don’t have one, you could think of another note associated with the fall harvest season — apple? hay?

What fragrance did you pick? As always, do chime in with your scent of the day even if you’re not participating in the community project.

I’m wearing Ego Facto Poopoo Pidoo, which smells like rice powder and almonds and marshmallow…

Those ever-demanding Millennials

Posted by Robin on 16 September 2016 29 Comments

Where in the past the fragrance industry was terrified of launching more than a single fragrance at a time for fear they would cannibalize one another, the new strategy — at least at the artisanal end of the market — is to introduce a collection of anything up to 10 scents at once. The switch is, naturally, being driven by those ever-demanding Millennials, who are no longer satisfied with a single, signature fragrance but instead want a family of scents that they can personalize to make their own, or mix and match depending on their mood, the particular day of the week or even the time of day.

— Women's Wear Daily pins the blame for fragrance collections — launching 3 or 5 or 10 fragrances at once — on Millenials, noting also that "the modern revival of fragrance groupings became more widespread with the launch of the Tom Ford brand" (the Private Blend collection debuted in 2007). Cate Blanchett for Giorgio Armani Sì Intense

A new Sephora just opened directly on the route of my daily commute, so I stopped in last week to check it out and try a few new fall fragrances. My eye was caught by the sleek black bottle of Giorgio Armani Sì Intense, a flanker to 2013’s Armani Sì. It was released elsewhere in 2014, but it just arrived in the United States this month.

The promotional boilerplate for this perfume reads, “The new version of Sì is designed for a strong and passionate woman who is brave and not afraid to take risks. Such a woman is conceived as very charismatic, confident, independent and sophisticated.” It was developed by perfumers Christine Nagel and Julie Massé, and its composition includes notes of black currant, mandarin, bergamot and freesia; rose de mai, neroli, davana and osmanthus; patchouli, vanilla, ambroxan and woods.

When I sprayed Sì Intense on my wrists at Sephora, I swooned with pleasure and momentarily considered purchasing a bottle then and there…
