Tuesday scent of the day 11/29

Posted by Robin on 29 November 2016 214 Comments

Christian Lacroix Caribe Tea Pot by Vista Alegre

It's Tuesday, and you have 32 days left to go in 2016. What fragrance are you wearing?

I'm wearing Christian Lacroix Tumulte Homme, again. Tea at the moment is a nice cup (my 3rd — I'm extra tired today) of Irish Breakfast.

Reminder: on 12/2, wear a perfume by Michel Almairac, if you have one.

And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2016, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

Note: The Christian Lacroix Caribe Tea Pot by Vista Alegre ("Serve a rejuvenating cup of tea in this hand-painted teapot, imagined with tropical exuberance") is $374 at Saks Fifth Avenue.

What a perfectly lovely teapot! I’m wearing Noir Epices, which though not Lacroix, is still pretty fabulous.

I retried Noir Epices on your recommendation, and you were right: beautiful. (And not powdery.)

I’m wearing Giselle by Carla Fracci, from the spicy sampler from STC. I really like it! It’s sort of like the old Casmir I wore back in the day, but on Atavan or something. Just calmer. Spend those 32 days wisely, NST!

Robin I am on my fourth cuppa -drinking Sencha this morning. I am tired too, my little chubby Buddha has a slight fever and has been extra needy this morning. Hope you are feel more awake, its hard to do on this weather.

I am sampling Boy today by Chanel, it reminds me of a powdery scent I have smelled before from the 90’s but I can’t remember.

To me this wears really close to the skin, it took me a couple of spray from the sample vial to actually smell anything.

Hope everyone has a good day ahead.

    Hi all!

I’ve been obsessed with a mini of Oscar by Oscar de la Renta parfum I found at an antique store. It definitely owes a debt to L’Origan by Coty while adding a sensual tuberose. No wonder it was so popular.

YOU smell fabulous! I wore Oscar in high school (won’t tell you what decade that was 🙂 !!!) and drained many a bottle…back in those days it came as a EDT splash….

My KL Chloe came in a 1-oz EDT splash bottle, too.

My original Chloe did as well. I remember going to the local Woolworths to buy glass travel sprays so that I could decant and spritz away as I always preferred to be enveloped in my perfume 🙂

You know I am wondering now if the manufacturers intentionally make everything spray so that we cannot decant so easily?

          • SicilianaNC says:
            29 November 2016 at 12:39 pm

When I buy vintage I always look for sprays because fingers never touch the product, thus contaminating it. If you’re going to sell fragrance 50 or 100 ml at a time (new), you don’t want to hassle with consumers returning turned bottles in 2 or 3 months. It is a bummer for those of us who choose to decant, though.

SOTD is Anne Pliska. It was mentioned yesterday, a good reminder since I haven’t worn it in quite a while. I’m wearing it with denim leggings, holographic Birkenstocks, and an over sized flannel shirt. It’s haute couture, baby!

Reason to celebrate: my mortgage/escrow payment in $60 less per month starting in January!! Woo Hoo! Plus, I got a reimbursement check from the bank for overpayment this year.

    Dries is calling my name…!

You smell fantastic! I reapplied later in the day yesterday and am really loving this one! It’s on my buy list, have you ever worn it in spring or summer? I’m thinking I might be able to pull it off in warmer weather, the orange note makes it feel lighter than some orientals.
      p.s. Love the Birkenstocks????

No, I cannot wear it in summer, but I live in EXTREME heat and humidity 9 months of the year. I’m able to wear it today even though it’s going to be 80 something only because the humidity is down.

Also, I love the duality of this fragrance. It must be how Marilyn Monroe smelled when she was young. Very innocent and sexy at the same time- “I’m a sex bomb? I had no idea…!” ????

Congratulations! If your mortgage company does not charge you a penalty for paying off your loan early, I would put part of the $60 towards an extra payment a year but specify that it is to pay down the principal. You will shorten your mortgage AND save in interest over the long term.

My dh is getting a full battery of vestibular tests so I’m hanging around at Mass eye and ear. He had a vertigo attack last March and still having balance issues. I didn’t put on perfume but noticing that the Tauerville Fruitchouli Flash from yesterday is still going strong – I got a little on my sweater sleeves. I’m really liking F F the more I wear it. It reminds me a little of Jungle l’elephant and a little of Rochas Femme. But it is still uniquely Tauer with a great sense of humor. I’m glad I gave it a chance.
Anyone else have the experience of being ambivalent or even turned off by a fragrance and starting to like or even love it over time and multiple wearing?

SL Cuir Mauresque. The first time I smelled it, I recoiled, totally repulsed. Now it’s one of my favorites and if I could find a bottle, I’d snap it up in a heartbeat.

Jicky was like that for me the first time I smelled it – I couldn’t smell any funkiness at all and was sad that it was just lemons and lavender (I think I had a cold). The next few times I tried it it bloomed and I swooned.

I hope your husband’s tests go well.

After months of using Korres Japanese Rose body butter I have switched to the Guava scent (scored a good discount). All this fruitiness is throwing me for a loop (a fruit loop?) perfume-wise. It does not seem to go with my usual fall cravings so I’m tending toward the gourmands this week. Today is Safran Troublant. I’m hoping my nose will get accustomed to the guava soon so I can get back to my woods, leathers, and chypres. But then again, it’s good to be nudged toward some scents I don’t wear as often.

Today I am wearing Miss Dior Extrait de Parfum which I bought a tester of b/c it was a good deal and I was curious. It is high-priced. Sadly this bottle sits and collects dust.

Dior really made a mess of the brand w/ all the Miss Diors and the similar/repurposed names. This is not the original one but rather the one they released in 2014 as part of Dior Les Extraits.

It is a floral chypre…I know this because the helpful tester label names it as such. 😉 It is nice…on the sweet side but I don’t think I need to keep it. I shall set it free for someone else to enjoy.

I was going through things this weekend and I really have too much perfume which I have said before but now I am going to act. I am making a swap/sell pile and am committing to sell at least 10 bottles before end of the year. You all shall be my witnesses to keep me honest as I thin the herd. The day is still young (especially on the Pacific coast) but I think this one goes into the swap/sell pile. Fare Thee Well confusingly named Miss Dior Extrait de Parfum…see you on the other side…

I’m wearing Desarmant today and hoping that it shows up at the discounters sometime in the near future, my decant is getting low.

Tomorrow is the last day of my year-long experiment. In November 2015 I turned all my perfumes backwards in the cabinet and turned them forwards when I wore them. I vowed that I would purge the ones unturned at the end of November 2016, so tomorrow that’s what I’ll do. Some will get sold, some gifted, some donated to Goodwill. It’s interesting what I didn’t wear as I really did expect very few to be unturned, and there are more than a few.

My SOTD is Mimosa and Cardamom. I needed a comforting scent today. In addition to all of the other junk that 2016 has thrown at us, our furnace died and we have to replace it. Now the money we had saved for a postponed tenth anniversary trip to France will be buying us a furnace.

Oh well, it is nice to be warm. I miss it.

Ack! Late to the party. Woke up late and confused (and I have no idea why, went to bed at a regular time! Rolled into work a couple of hours after my start; fortunately it’s just reports right and not any actual QA needed.

SOTD: L’eau de Chanel – I drained the last of it from the sample. Lovely, lovely fragrance, but I think better for a warm spring/summer day,

Late breakie: Cafe au lait (almond milk) rye crispbread, boiled egg, avocado and Kalles spread. I can take on the rest of the day!

Soaking in a bath with Rose Jam bubbles trying to energize myself. I may go to a mall in Charlotte to investigate pricey luggage Hubbie has been hinting heavily about. Then I could get that backup bottle of Rose Jam. Bribing myself to get rolling is bad enough, but when you have to piggyback your motivators (sushi along the way), that’s really shameful.

If it happens to be Tumi luggage, you won’t regret it. Hubby is a road warrior, and Tumi takes a lickin’ (and keeps on tickin’????) And they have a good repair/warranty program.

Whatever you do, don’t buy Rimowa luggage, doesn’t hold up at all.

FYI, under the Christian LaCroix label there are also pretty notebooks and journals, which you can find on Amazon and elsewhere for much less than the teapot. There is even a journal with a pop-up in the center featuring Zebra Girl. Would make nice gifts!

I tried April Aromatics today, but that one has gone to the bottom of my list so far.

Just realized I have a bottle of Eau Florale, gifted to me but sadly I can’t stand it. It’s a very floral floral, which is a no go for me personally, but the bottle is just gorgeous.

Me, too, LOL. I only keep it around for the pretty shell shell bottle. 🙂

    SOTD is Angela Ciampagna “Kanat”.

    Top: bergamot, peach, apricot, black currant and saffron;
    Mid: salt, magnolia, lily, cyclamen, ylang-ylang and mimosa;
    Base: musk, vanilla and patchouli.

Unusual and refreshing first seconds, and then it turns into a facsimile of Profumum Roma’s “Acqua di Sale”, which I love, and don’t need its twin, and then a few hours later it dies (whereas AdS keeps on keeping on).

And the 32 days thing means I am already in my 4th-last week in this Paris project. I shall be glad to see the back of it. I hope some time in the future I will come back to Paris and enjoy it as a city again, as this time around it has just been the backdrop to a trying 7 months. I am sitting in an AirBnB which is 1 street away from the Louvre, and frankly it has been more appealing to teach myself SharePoint than to go outdoors to the Christmas Market, which is a sure sign that the problem is with me and not with the city.

I try not to think of the dozens of NST readers who would make so much more of this opportunity – it just makes me feel worse about how I am wasting it.

Today I gifted a 3/4 full bottle of Hanae Mori Hanae to a coworker. She is a young girl, and is always telling me that I smell good. She was very surprised and happy to receive it. About a year ago, I developed a”bad association ” with Flower bomb. Hanae has a similar vibe to it, and I just couldn’t wear it anymore. Sotd was Black Opium. Which for now, I have a good association with.

SOTD = Terry de Gunzberg Ombre Mercure

    Here’s Jessica’s review:

    https://freebox.it.com/2013/11/01/terry-de-gunzberg-parti-pris-ombre-mercure-fragrance-reviews/%3C/a%3E%3C/p%3E

Anyone who likes powder, violet, violet leaf, Silver Iris, Misia or French Kiss ought to give this a try. This means cazaubon, thegoddessrena, farouche, lucas, chocolatemarzipan are fair game to be enabled 😉

It was raining hard when I left the office. My observations of the day:
    – some people would rather get soaking wet than unplug for however long it takes to get out of the rain
    – to people with extreme body shapes (e.g. one who has champion-sized chikd-bearing hips) – those transparent vinyl bubble umbrellas are made for skinny androgynous bodies. Let’s face it and this is a note to self –how many people think to look at themselves in the mirror while holding an open umbrella? Not me and this should teach me a lesson to do that the next time I buy an umbrella.

I smelled something I thought was Ombre Mercure at Barney’s in SF but I didn’t like it and I don’t remember it smelling like violet, so maybe I grabbed the wrong bottle. Need to try again.

have you ever tried agarwood essential oil (real oud?) It is beautiful…and I much prefer it to synthetic oud…blends beautifully with rose essential oil…..
