Wednesday scent of the day 10/26

Posted by Robin on 26 October 2016 263 Comments

Prada orange patent wedge sandals

Happy Hump Day, and happy National Pumpkin Day! (And sorry I'm late, I quite overslept.) What fragrance are you wearing?

I'm on day three of Halloween treats, with Prada Candy.

Reminder: 10/28 will be Treat Friday — wear a fragrance that reminds you of candy. Suggested by Happy888cat.

And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2016, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

Note: the (used) Prada orange patent wedge sandals are $155 at TheRealReal consignment store.

Encre Noire Sport (Lalique). I think I’m done with this fragrance, time to move on. Love the original, and just ordered some A L’Extreme.

Can you compare the Sport to the original? How about the original to A l’Extrème? (The original is the only one I’ve tried, and I love that one.)

The Sport version has a slug of citrus, and the smoky facet is gone or toned way down. Haven’t sampled the Extreme version yet so cannot comment on it.

I didn’t know there was a Sport version. I absolutely LOVE Encre Noire. To me it is the closest thing to wearing Vetiver essential oil – which I do – often.

I loved this fragrance too until I developed a sensitivity to Iso E Super and could not enjoy it anymore. I wear vetiver essential oil and am actively looking for a replacement for beautiful Encre Noire.

Eating some Danish chocolate covered mocha beans and wearing Serge Lutens Chergui. This is a gorgeous sweet tobacco, ambery and smoky scent with a beautiful powdery drydown. Lots of coumarin. Elegant and comforting for a cold day like today. Hope this combo keeps me awake at work, at least, during the morning hours.

Neonatura Cocoon by Yves Rocher. Vanilla, dusty cocoa powder and bristly patchouli, the simplest thing in the world, but it’s incredible.

Bourbon got me into trouble. The nice young woman at Fossil complemented me in it, which *caused me* to lay my eyes on a $300 cognac colored leather work bag I fell in love with. Maybe for Christmas.

This morning, I too put on some Trayee, mostly because I needed a hug. I’ve stayed at home all day to write my thesis far from labmates, so I got a chance to go to the post office and pick up one of my swaps.

I’ve got some Bottega Profumiera Shardana on one wrist. In theory, there’s sandalwood in there, but the stinky seawater is covering that up. I think Epice Marine may be the only sea scent for me. My other wrist has the most glorious Dries van Noten, which is warm and spectacular.

Ok, back to writing this thing. Ugh. Can I eat more chocolate instead?

Oh I meant to add, I think the SA who told me l’Arlésienne is being taken off the market was telling me dirty lies. I think l’Occitane just repackaged it, just like they did with Pivoine Flora and Fleur d’Or et Acacia. I got some ads for the new, repackaged l’Arlésienne, and it’s certainly more chic now. Oh well, tant mieux.

It seems like this week I am finally catching up with old “cold weather” fragrances I’ve not worn since last year. SOTD is just a dab of Amouage Memoir Woman. It’s like sitting next to a large fire in some totally awesome wood paneled room with leather chairs and suede sofa and books and a nice cognac and cashmere wrap all rolled into one great smell.

Were there ever “real” muffins? Haven’t they always been cupcakes disguised as food? Kind of like today’s greek yogurt is ice cream you feel good about eating? 😉

Your post reminds me of a muffin shop that was on Haight & Ashbury in the late 80s that had the best bran muffins ever. I’ve never been able to find any as good, including ones I’ve made. Chewy top, moist with tons of texture from the bran, and loaded with raisins. Delicious and probably well over 600 calories each.

I’m taking a quick second to actually post today instead of just thinking about it. The cousins are descending on Mom’s place this coming weekend for the unofficial annual get-together and hunting season opener so I’m doing things that have been put off and cleaning/organizing/sorting for their arrival. Today I will (hopefully) finish trimming that huge rose bush in the front and clean the garage apartment. The rose in the tree is really a two person job because someone has to be on the ground waving rose canes to distract the very enthusiastic feline crew. Otherwise I’m at the top of the 12′ ladder with furry helpers swiping at my hands and face.
SOTD is Jub 25 again. I realized my little decant is disappearing and decided to wear it this week out of thrift, but have been enjoying it a ton. I thought I preferred the Men’s version but I stand corrected. I’m kicking myself for not snagging a deeply discounted bottle of this a few months ago but also wondering if it’s starting to turn and that’s why I like it so much now. I don’t remember noticing the “antique store perfume bottle” note before. Perhaps I will order a fresh sample and compare.

I have been swooped by an enormous raven and was checked out by a very brave black-crested titmouse earlier. He landed about a foot from my face and hopped about to see if I was a threat. So cute!

Oh, I’d be interested to hear your comparison as well!

I seem to remember some fruit in Petit… pear? something light, anyway. More “tuberose syrup” and less of the “every white flower, plus old makeup and cold cream to remove it” kitchen sink thing that Fracas does. (I get a *ton* of orange blossom in Fracas, as well as the tuberose.) Petit F is nice, wearable, but like chiffon instead of that heavy crushed-velvet weight and luxury of Fracas.

Fracas is definitely about buttery tuberose, flowers, bouquets and yummy is not the first word to come to mind. It’s also quite powerful and “grown up”.
Petit Fracas is like the “afternoon tea party” version. Pretty and sweet. The white floral is lighter, like whipped cream and -agreeing with mals86-, syrupy. Unmistakably gourmand in comparison.
I would say they wear quite differently but both very enjoyable. 🙂

LOL! actually I am on a no buy with everything…only the every day essentials get purchased now…and will be for a long time 🙁 I have also unsubscribed to all sites, including Sephora and Dame Perfumery (ugh that was the hardest one to unsubscribe from!) to avoid temptation.

4 hours into wearing, I’m suddenly reminded of Chloe! (the new version). The only note in common is the amber, so don’t know why I think I smell it! 🙂

And the Owl perfume which I just finished up in solid format (bought my mother the spray EDT of Owl last year)…

It’s rare that I ever smell anyone wearing anything. It makes me appreciate it when I smell perfume in public at all, regardless of what it is. It almost seems to be an act of open rebellion these days.

And for the record, I had 3 appointments within 4 days with my allergist a few weeks ago and smelled delicious every day I was there. Not sure whether it was appreciated or not 😉 (Interestingly, it’s one of the few offices I’ve been to lately that isn’t a “perfume-free zone.”

Unscented as of yet, because I am painting the half bath (powder room, if you prefer that term) and I hardly think I’d appreciate fragrance while swishing pigment around.

After shower, though, I may get out my Memoir Woman.

I quite like it. I daresay I am hating to love it in fact. 😉 I never wore the original Angel or was a fan of it. But this is lovely for fall…

I am embarrassed to say it, but I have gone through 2 bottles of Angel in the early 2000’s 🙂 Recently I got a sample, and disliked it immensely. I smelled it on someone a few months ago and it smelled very nicely.
However, I do like the flankers – both Muse and Liqueur de Parfum.

This morning’s scent was the original Lolita Lempicka. It is actually in the front of my collection but I don’t seem to pick it up often. I had bought a bottle from Beauty Encounter blind and I figured that it was a shade over $20, so it wasn’t going to be a total waste. One of the best blind buys that I have done. I love the bottle and Tatina Sanchez in The Guide was right, it looks something out of a Tim Burton movie. Post shower, I will reapply.

Someone else posted that they liked the edt better of this one, but I’m really not sure. At first I thought the edp seemed a little less sharp. It seems to have given up sooner than the edt though. All in all, I can’t make up my mind and I’m going to have to try them another day to come up with a coherent opinion.

Am I the only one who didn’t know that Profumum Roma has started releasing their scents in 18ml travel sizes? I was poking around on Luckyscent last night and saw them. Apparently LS is not carrying all of them, (at least not yet) but I saw Acqua Viva, Confetto, Vanitas, and Acqua di Sale.

SOTD is vintage Carolina Herrera. Tuberose and civet, yum!

All this week I’m trying samples that are *supposed to be* sweet treats – but are they really? Heroically I am pressing on with my dangerous quest.

SOTD is “Vanille Abricot” from Comptoir Sud Pacifique, which has kept me in sweet vanilla all day.
Treat rating: 3/5, fine for occasional fun.
If this were a sweet it would be: a Victoria Sponge Cake made with Apricot jam and dusted with vanilla caster sugar. And I have eaten one slice too many. :^)

Robin, I’ve been waiting to see how long it would be before you broke out Prada Candy 🙂

I accidentally drenched myself in TF Noir de Noir late last night and it’s still going strong (and quite annoying me, actually.) I spritzed some Bvlgari Omnia over it on one wrist, which is making it more enjoyable (thanks, Regina!) It’ll be a while before these both wear off so that I can apply a proper Treat for the day. Haven’t decided where I’ll go next. Possibly SSS Cocoa Sandalwood.

I got my Chanel Egoiste decant yesterday and did a side-by-side with BdI. Totally different aside from the sandalwood. BdI is heavy on the aldehydes and then settles to a sweetish sandalwood. Egoiste has aromatic and balsamic notes built around sandalwood and rosewood. It’s more natural foresty smell to me-less perfumey. It has some sweetness but more from the balsams. I like both.
I need to try that SSS. Do you like it?

Have you compared ot to Chanel Boy? To me, there’s a similarity, with 1932 having a sharpish nose clearing nose hair singeing “something”. My decant came from a reliable NSTer (who has not been posting much except for a few nibbles here and there) and aiso got it not long after its launch.

Oy, crazy day for me, too! I should have an analyst to do some of the grunt work. Between 2:39 and 2:40 this afternnoon, I had someone on the phone, my other line was ringing, my manager’s peer instant messaged me that I need to call bim right away on an urgent matter (and it was but it will take time to research and not on my already overflowing To Do list) and another person instant messaged me with a question for which the info had been provided previously). This is a classic example of to get work done, give it to the busy people. Aaaaaargh!

I’ve been there over 22 years so I am probably doing the work of two people. I sit at my desk, skip breaks and lunch etc., just a massive work load. It is stressful. I am constantly working against deadlines plus my boss thinks she’s a princess ( I do like her but she’s demanding and lazy). Your job responsibilities sound much worse though. What the heck are these people doing in the middle of the night? Don’t they sleep or is it because you are supporting company divisions across the globe? I am living for retirement but have 10 -13 years to go…
