Wednesday scent of the day 9/28

Posted by Robin on 28 September 2016 226 Comments

Fendi fall 2016

It's Hump Day! What fragrance are you wearing?

I'm in Fendi Furiosa.

Reminder: 9/30 will be Still Ticking Friday — wear the perfume in your collection that has been on the market longest (so the perfume with the earliest launch year, that is still in production — not necessarily your oldest bottle).

And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2016, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

I’m in vintage Joy extrait de parfum. Tea is Early Grey Provence by MF. Both are truly great.

      Earl Grey of course.

I don’t wear Joy very often, but every time I do, I realise how much I love it.

I’m very happy with my purchases this far. I love Panda and Rhinocerus and the 2016 formulation of Beaver. I was not a fan of Bat and on a super confident day I will throw on Hummingbird which is designated for women but I think I pull it off. Can’t wait for the new ones. Overall I love the concept of using items from the habitat of the animal. They have smaller travel sprays and samples if you want to dip your toe in. ????

How does it wear? I sniffed the sprayer yesterday and it seemed nice, as did Grand Soir, but I was out of skin and my poor Mom was out of skin and beginning to cringe away from me whenever I picked up a bottle (she was acting as a human blotter for me because she couldn’t smell anything).

In Guerlain L’Heur Bleue. I have a hate-love relationship with this perfume. There are days that it just doesn’t speak to me. I find it boring, sad, old fashion, not me at all. Those are the days when I think my bottle needs to go to another place. However, there are days like today when I find it heavenly, glorious, a scent to die for. Those changes really astonish me and I still wonder what the future of L’Heur Bleue will be…

I do love L’Heure Bleue and I find that a normal spray is just too much for me. I do have L’Heure Bleue in extrait form and find that dabbing works better for me. It’s supposed to be a joyous perfume, maybe in it’s time it was but now it’s more of meloncholy.

Outremer Oceanic Hotel Nice is my scent of the day. The artwork on the bottle has a vintage look to it that makes me smile. So does the scent — I enjoy the crisp green notes combined with the citrus notes. Uncomplicated and fun. Just what I need today.

Feeling quite awful because I effectively pushed my boss, who appears to have completely lost interest in my research right when I need him most, to say some pretty hurtful things to me. I was well aware he would say them–I know him–but I didn’t see any way to push him to do what I’ve needed him to do for a couple months now without getting him to hurt me in the process. Torn between just going home right now to curl up and cry and staying in lab to show him that he can’t make me go home and cry.

On the upside, I smell pretty spectacular in VCA Rose Velours.

I cannot wait to get out of here.

Yuck, so sorry. I am recovering from a recent bout of Awful Boss myself and it’s crazy how much it can affect you even when you KNOW it’s on them. A solace for me was reading the advice column Ask a Manager (an easy Google) – it helped me see clearly the difference between good and bad bossing, and gave me comfort in knowing I was not alone!

After yesterday’s overdose of Santal Majuscule, I thought I would wear something lighter, but I put on Fate Woman -not really “lighter”. but it’s amazing anyway.
It’s weird, this fall I’ve really been enjoying the scents I usually want in spring.

Fate as a lighter scent? Wow, Santal Majuscule must be a sandalwood bomb!

I just about snorted my tea!

You do smell fabulous! Wandering off to find a sample of Santal Majuscule – I need a sandalwood bomb in my collection, since I just can’t do Samsara any more…

Oh, ha, my Santal Majuscule is a decant, and I couldn’t tell if the sprayer was working properly. I may have had 3 or more sprays on. Which seemed to be about 2 sprays too many.
I like to share my initial feeling about what I think I will wear before i put in perfume compared to what I actually put on because it is usually nonsensical and funny!
I’m not educated enough to know if it smells like real sandalwood, but I like it anyway – it doesn’t have the nose-searing quality of some woody scents. It’s got good throw too. But it’s dusty, not as creamy as other sandalwoods.

    Wednesday!

    1) Housemate has finally moved in, which is awesome. Set up the network for her computer and printer, and today she is off to IKEA for a proper bed (she borrowed the airbed last night.) Discovered that the local Vietnamese/Asian food store has fresh French Vietnamese pastries, Cafe Du Monde chicory coffee, French bread, Chinese sausage and French pate, in addition to vegetables, humble cuts of meat and all the Asian style condiments you would desire.

    2) SOTD: Anthropologie’s Citrine, a citrusy-vanilla scent. I have it still after all these years, and it’s perfect for today, which will be warmish but then turn to our familiar fall rain. A great perk me up for this morning.

It’s a beautiful morning and I can not decide what to wear. Perfume wise, of course. I’m wearing my standard ratty old bikini with huge safety toe work boots and heading out to do some gardening . Think I’ll celebrate the outdoors with a smear of Sultan Pasha’s Pure Incense.
What I’m really in the mood for is White Linen or Private Collection but I have neither and haven’t smelled the current PC since nobody has a tester. I stole a spray of White Linen yesterday at Neiman’s and enjoyed it more than any of the niche stuff I was sampling, but I’ve been craving it lately so no surprise there. I really should hunt down some vintage of both in my next bout of Internet time-killing.

Oops. Sorry, nobody has a tester of the current Private Collection. Neimans had White Linen but neither Nordies nor Dillard’s did, which I found really strange.

Still going backwards in time, today in Caron Coup de Fouet from 1954 — though not my personal bottle, which is about a decade old and a really great teeth-and-claws carnation scent. I bet it was even more vicious back in the day.

Oh yes. Can’t tell you what it smells like because IFRA restrictions on eugenol have surely changed it. You should get a sample just to be sure, and you should also try Comme Des Garçons Carnation, which is way more violent than even my Coup de Fouet (or, again, used to be: my bottle of that is about a decade old, too).

This time of the morning, fourteen years ago today, I was getting my hair done for my wedding. I honestly don’t remember what perfume I wore that day; I hadn’t fallen down the rabbit hole yet, and so it wasn’t that important.
So, today’s scent is a generous spray of my anniversary present, Chanel No. 19 Poudre.

Musk week continues….i have been a bit underwhelmed by everything I’ve tried ( musk-wise). I have two options: move to a city/country with a better perfume selection and/ or cheaper shipping, or blind buy Musc Nomade or L’air de Rien (you know who you are…). I’ve opted for blind buying, starting with Musc Nomade as I haven’t found anyone on ebay who will ship LdR to NZ. Very exciting! In the meantime i am wearing sprays from my samples of Zadig&Voltaire For Him and For Her… I like the powder coated spray nozzles and caps on the bottles and the way the bottles are cut to fit into each other. I might do a week of clever his’n’hers bottle designs…thinking Gaultier2, A Scent, …that Philippe Strack would be good. Had to get Musc Nomade in the square bottle which is abit of a shame as I like those ribbed , frosted AG bottles…

I’m in Sublime Balkiss, which I really love. Was just looking at Lucky Scent’s profile of this frag (window shopping!) which says, “Sublime Balkiss is sure to appeal to Angel fans – if you’ve given up on the Thierry Mugler’s classic because it was too popular, or too potent.” Really? I definitely would not have made that connection at all.

This is such a good perfume, Austenfan. Comforting, elegant, everything is right. I’ll have a choosing problem whenever I pass by an Annick Goutal retailer, lol, because I’m in LOVE with most of those samples, girl.

Good! Bear in mind that most of those samples are from older bottles, so things might have changed a little. Mind you, I’ve never heard about major changes to either Sables or HE. I remember my first sniff of HE so well. I had blind bought it on ebay in I think 2008 or so. Opened it, sprayed it, and was completely stunned.
Will you have to stay in hospital for long? I wish you a speedy and full recovery.

Thank you, dear! The doctor just came to say I’ll be going home in about an hour. The biopsy was good, the surgery was fine, I cannot complain! And agree, L’Heure Exquise is nothing short of stunning. I hope the sweet hospital staff enjoyed it as much as myself.

Coco Noir is all right, isn’t it? Hey, my Signal Hill Walk oil is improving. It is now clear with a sediment …and smells smoother, less pond water, more mud wall. . It’s quite good fun, eh. I might try a lemon-musk scent next.

I like it. I can recognize it as being a Coco relative. I’ll have to try a genuine side-by-side sometime.

Hey, that’s good: I’m pretty sure I prefer mud wall to pond water. ???? Lemon-musk sounds interesting and good.

They have the city editions at Nordstrom’s for a few more days, so I got a couple of sprays of Tubereuse 40, which is a nice spiced, and not-too-sweet orange blossom for a day when I’m taking a pal to birthday lunch, and there’s appointments after…
Not affordable at this price, but delightful to try all the same.

    SOTD = SHL Taklamakan

I am in LUST! How could one not be? Just sit back, relax and read Kafka’s review:

    http://www.kafkaesqueblog.com/2016/06/11/shl-777-taklamakan-desert-sands-desert-gold/

To assuage guilt of blind buying a full bottle, I went in on a basenotes split and kept the bottle. I see myself wearing this often!

Thank you for that link, Hajusuuri. Kafka’s Taklamakan review is so compelling, lovely to read, beautiful images. I am usually wary of resinous and smoky scents, yet I was utterly enthralled by the description of this one. And that bottle is pure enchantment.

Changed up the SOTD to Alaia EdP for today. The Alaia shines in hot, sunny summer weather; not so much now. I’m thinking it’s time for me to investigate what scents work for rainy autumn days.

SOTD is Phaedon “Sable et Soleil”, the third of my ‘manly florals’ for the week. So far I have found most Phaedon stuff to be annoyingly slight, but Sable et Soleil is a very pleasant summery scent, with a salty note quite reminiscent of Profumum Roma “Acqua di Sale” although it’s a little softer and sweeter overall. Features lemon blossom, jasmine, geranium, coconut milk, sandalwood, vanilla, tonka bean and white musk.

For some unknown reason I wanted to wear fruit (I am not a fruity perfume lover at all) and I grabbed Bois de Paradis and it is just perfect for today. I got this in NST’s first perfume swap, I think, and although I can’t remember who sent it, I can’t imagine being without it, so thanks! The partial bottle will probably last me the rest of my life.
