The meetup poll, episode 2

Posted by Robin on 17 September 2016 41 Comments

Dior world flower map

(PSA: a "regular" lazy weekend poll is coming up shortly!)

Want to meet local perfumistas? Here's your chance to find out if there's anyone near you who would like to get together to...have coffee? go perfume shopping? attend a local scent-related event? Anything really — this is very loose. You can use this poll to find others for a specific event, or just to build a contact list of local perfumistas for future planning.

It would make it much easier for everyone else (and help prevent duplicate efforts) if the very first words in your post were the name of your city or local area! If you're responding to an existing thread, that's obviously not necessary.

You can also check episode 1 to see if there are already groups in your area.

Note: world flower map [color altered] via Dior at Facebook.

King of Prussia PA / Philadelphia PA / Wilmington DE/New Jersey

A group from Eastern PA / Wilmington / New Jersey met for lunch and shopping at King of Prussia in May of this year, and we will meet again. I’m not sure where, and I’m sort of hoping someone else will take over the mailing list since I’m kind of slow to plan events, but do comment and sent me an email and I’ll get something started later this month…

email to robin at nstperfume dot com (and it would help us plan future events if you would include your general location in the email)

Vancouver, BC! There is a small Vancouver sniffing group and we can arrange to meet sometime at, say, the Perfume Shoppe and then stroll to other downtown destinations. Wine might be involved later on…

Email a123amos at inbox dot com if you’re interested in meeting up sometime – we meet several times a year…

There is a 5 year anniversary party at Etiket on 9/29 at 6pm, we could go to that together, or we could just go for a sniffathon around town. Write to me at my user name @me.com.

Ann Arbor, MI and extended area west, north, south, east. I’d love to find perfumistas anywhere close! Last meet up I met one grad student who immediately graduated and left the area.
Ann Arbor is surprisingly short of scent vendors, and I am happy to wander in search of good smells!
Email me through gmail using my name here. And as always, thanks to Robin for setting up these great opportunities.

    SF Bay Area

A few of us were thinking of making a sniffing trip to Union Square in SF once the holiday decorations are up (which should be any day now – bleargs). We can visit Barney’s, Chanel, Hermes, Dior… Maybe late October / early November?

Also, there’s Mandy Aftel’s annual holiday open house, in December I think; might be fun to go with company.

Email me at emc dawt 7 1 1 7 in the land of geeee mail.

Another possibility: the Perfumer’s Apprentice in Scotts Valley (no affiliation) offers an introductory perfume-making class. It would be fun to get a group together to do that.

    Washington, DC/ NoVa/ MD

We have a very active meetup group in this area! Several of us went to the Hermes boutique in DC and then in April we had our first big gathering at Arielle Shoshana in Fairfax, VA where we sniffed around and shared samples and got to know each other, then proceeded to True Food Kitchen for a bite, and then on to Tyson’s Galleria to visit Chanel and Neiman Marcus. I invited Steve from The Scented Hound to join us, and he graciously accepted. In June, we met at Arielle Shoshana again when Ari was hosting Barbara Herman who introduced us to her Eris Perfume line. I invited Mark Behnke to be part of our group, and he brought his Facebook perfumista group along so we had quite a nice crowd. In August, we went to Ari’s event hosting Carlos Huber of Arquiste and he introduced his new perfumes, El and Ella. A few of us traveled to Santa Maria Novella and Saks in Chevy Chase, MD later in August and had a wonderful afternoon with a very knowledgeable and charming Chanel SA.

All are welcome! If you have anywhere you’d like to go, or just get together to meet, you may contact me at: harukirumi in the land of yawhoo. I anticipate that our next meetup will be in October, and will be sending out a group email in the next week or so.

Just a thought but Odette Toilette has one of her Vintage Scent Sessions (1980s) at Les Senteurs on the afternoon of Sat 8 Oct. Tickets are £39 but that includes cakes and sparkling wine, and a 10% discount in Les Senteurs. I’ve been to the 1920s one and it was good fun. Anyone up for that?

      Hello jenbat !
I’d love to connect with local parfumistas. I’m sure there are quite a few, must be!
Haven’t heard of Niche Essence though but ill check out the location. Any other location such as Holt’s, the new Saks or Nordstrom’s are fine, of course, provided they are willing to give us time and space to chat. (btw I’ve had an amazing experience at Saks Sherway with one of their SA just a few days ago, so may be there?).

Let’s do it. Will you be the hub?
I will email you and we can discuss when and where. Sometimes this early fall would be nice. 🙂

Hello Toronto perfume peeps. I was a pretty active perfumista for years when I lived in the DC area. I moved to TO last year and haven’t yet checked out the perfume shops except a few department stores. Must fix that. Please keep me in the loop if there is a meet up Sariah dot Ian @ Gmail dot com.

Hello! I’m a guy in Bergen County, NJ. I would love love love to meet other perfume lovers in the area! I’m an RN & an Esthetician by trade. I’m also hearing impaired & I wear a hearing aid in my right ear. Although I’m a guy I love & primarily indulge in perfumes marketed to women (yes, I’m gay- I know your wondering, lol) although not exclusively. I love BWFs, Greens, & Woods. I especially love those that have an underlying “skank”, lol. Animalic, barnyard, urinous, fecal, raunchy, are all selling points to me. Finding a “true” solifleur perfumes of Gardenia & Osmanthus is my Holy Grail. Some examples of my favourite perfumes are all of vero profumo (especially Rubj & Mito); Carven Ma Griffe; Balmain Vent Vert; Serge Lutens Sarrassins, Muscs Kublai Khan, Un Lys, Tubereuse Criminelle; Tom Ford Velvet Gardenia, Fleur de Chine, Shanghai Lily; Shiseido Inoui; Chanel (too many to list here); Frederic Malle Lipstick Rose, Carnal Flower, Un Fleur de Cassie; Guerlain Misouko, Le Terracotta; Nasomatto Nuda; Isabey Fleur Nocturn; does that give a good idea of my tastes? I have many FBs & I love to make decants & share; I have a label maker & all. I’m up to my eyeballs in samples & would love to share those too. But I have only one friend in California that loves perfume too & I would love to meet others- especially nearby. I feel quite alone & freakish in my love of fragrance. If anyone around me is interested in communicating with me please feel free to reach out, I’d love to hear from you! ????

      New York City

Hey Gian, there’s a bunch of us who have meet ups in New York City (since NJ is bereft of any niche perfumeries). You can email me by clicking on my name and I will add you to the mailing list for when something comes up.

Our last meetup was in May at the Madison Avenue Annick Goutal Boutique, arranged via Sniffapalooza. There might have been something in July (ElisaP would know) with a visitor from DC; I was away on vacation and was bummed not to have been able to make it. Some of us meet one-off as well.

Sniffapalooza “Fall Ball” is coming up again from Oct.21 to 23. The 21st is an evening event at Twisted Lily. The May event was the first time there was no breakfast presentation at Bergdorfs and no goodie bag from BG either…but we got our usual big bag of samples +++ at lunch. Anyway, no one is scrambling to sign up yet but I’ll send out an email to find out who may be interested.

Awesome! Thank you so much! And yes, NJ is very sadly bereft of any actual niche perfumerie shops. I will shoot you an email with my info shortly. I will put “Gían” in the subject line so you don’t think it’s spam pushing Viagra or something, lol.

Have you had the chance to try Eris “Ma Bête”, Gian? It sounds like it might fit your aesthetic. (Sadly I’m on the wrong side of the Atlantic to say anything useful about swaps or meetings ). :^)

Thank you so much for reaching out. I take it your in Europe then? I love it there although it’s been awhile since I’ve been. At least you can get the Serge Lutens bell jars without having to pay the obscene markup in price that we Americans must pay (although I flatly refuse to do so & so I sadly do not own a Serge Lutens bell jar ????)! And no, I have not tried Eris ‘Ma Bête’ but I’m going to now!
