Arquiste El & Ella ~ new fragrances

Posted by Robin on 15 August 2016 6 Comments

Arquiste Él and Ella

Niche line Arquiste will launch a new fragrance duo, Él and Ella. The scents were inspired by jet-set Acapulco in the 1970s, and were developed by perfumer Rodrigo Flores-Roux.

Él ~ an animalic fougère with laurel, clary sage oil, rosemary, geranium, cardamom, cinnamon, orange blossom, buckwheat honey, patchouli, oak moss absolute, castoreum, civet and fougère accord.

Ella ~ an animalic chypre. "It's a sultry night of disco, plunging necklines and champagne-soaked skin. Lights flash and strangers kiss, but it's her, dancing, that commands the attention. She moves, panther-like, her honeyed skin creating an addictive sweetness and magnetism that only a deep chypre fragrance can deliver. She's met her match on the dance floor, and it's her animalic instinct that follows him outside, onto the golden beach, under a silvery moon." With cannon ball tree flower (curupita), angelica root, carrot seed, rose, jasmine, cardamom, buckwheat honey, amber, patchouli, civet, vetiver, cigarette smoke accord and chypre accord.

Arquiste Él and Ella will debut in September, in 100 ml.

It is interesting how the pendulum always swings back.
These two seem to me like a take on 70’s fragrances.
Now we have to shell Niche prices for the old cheapies that discounters cannot even get rid of.
El sounds like a remake of Yatagan or Azzaro Pour Homme.
Ella sounds like a remake of (my beloved!) Mystere de Rochas.

When Angela reviewed Mystere de Rochas on NST, she commented on the smell of smoldering cigarettes at the end of the party or at Studio 54.
I guess that’s what is meant by “cigarette smoke” in Ella!

Can’t wait to see if they’ll do well with the new generation.

Eric, was able to smell these at Arielle Shoshana recently when they hosted Carlos Huber. You’re exactly right that the descriptions sound like 70s fragrances, but that’s not the way they smell at all. I can’t predict how the new generation will react, but there’s definitely no oakmoss, etc., to scare them off.

I’m right with you in Mystere; it’s one of the all-time greats.

Well drat, I want oakmoss! And it’s listed in the men’s. Shame if it’s not noticeable. But did you like them?

El was very rich and sexy when I smelled it at Arielle Shoshana. I live for Architect’s Club; maybe this is next! Carlos is such a dreamboat.
