Wednesday scent of the day 7/27

Posted by Robin on 27 July 2016 196 Comments

Salvatore Ferragamo Spring Summer 2016 Campaign

Happy Hump Day, and happy Scotch Whiskey Day. What fragrance are you wearing?

I'm trying Ferragamo Tuscan Scent Leather Rose.

Reminder: on 7/29, we're doing Huesday on Friday — wear a fragrance inspired by Limpet Shell and/or Peach Echo, colors from Pantone's Spring/Summer 2016 collection. You can find the image and color descriptions here.

And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2016, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

Hi! Im so happy as I have finally found the vintage Guerlain Mitsouko perfume box at an old market for only €10. It is now decorating my living room.
I’m wearing Adam Vetiver Extraodinaire from a sample. It’s wonderful but lasts one hour on my skin. This evening will be wearing Chanel 19 EDP.

That’s exactly my complaint with FM Vet Extra – it’s remarkably fleeting, especially given how heavy many of his other perfumes are.

SOTD is Phaedon “Oriental Mint”, whose opening blast of non-toothpasty mint is pretty refreshing. The mint disappears quickly though, and the remaining peppery woodsy dry down is nothing special.

Phaedon is yet another vehicle for Pierre Guillaume, who is evidently spreading himself a bit thin these days. :^)

I think he has ADD. Too many lines with too many perfumes. Though, I did just buy one from his Huitieme Art line. It’s neither original, nor particularly complex, but I just really like it (Poudre de Riz).

Hi Austenfan. I know you smell great…I never responded to your question about the Wintereise book. I have a paperback. I enjoyed it, though some people found it had too many digressions. Anyway, it got me back into music and I have also been enjoying listening to Peteris Vasks choral works on these cold days.

Thanks for replying. I’ve put it on my Amazon wishlist. I adore Winterreise and I’ve been meaning to read more about it for years. I’ve also found a lovely German edition of the original series of poems by Wilhelm Müller.
Talking of choral music: have you ever listened to Tallis’s Spem in Alium?

I hope you had a brilliant time in the snow. I used to love camping but I think camping in winter conditions is beyond me. You are a brave woman!

My mom seemed to like that one when I took her on a mini sniffing adventure at Sephora – maybe I should hook her up with a bottle.

Is yours new or vintage? I actually don’t even know if there’s a difference, but I’m curious.

Mine was manufactured in 2010, though I have backup bottles from 2003-2004.
Raiders of the Lost Scent is a great resource for dating bottles.
This version is pre-reformulation and smells like the 2002 original.
There is a 2012 version that I’ve not smelled, apparently poorly received.
They reformulated again in 2014. The bottles are subtly different each time.
YouTube has videos that are helpful.
HTH and do get your Mother a bottle, it smells heavenly.
One of my DESERT ISLAND scents.

Not too personal, I’m an open book.
Some, but not all – Shalimar, DIORADDICT, Egoiste, No22, Fahrenheit, Kouros, Opoponax Les Nereides, Hypnotic Poison, Habanita, Theorema, Ambre Sultan. Partial list.
It better be a BIG island. LOL

Well, I’d prefer a cold island to a tropical one (for a start) … actually the South Island of New Zealand is pretty good for me.
            Feu d’Issey
            Terre d’Hermes
            Pohadka (and maybe Lale )
Yohji – Yohji Yamamoto from the mid 1990s…wore out a bottle
            Something Serge Lutens…the dry end

Didn’t have time to post yesterday, which was too bad because I was quasi-twins with Robin in Le Galion Iris. Today is supposed to be the beginning of a serious warming trend, weather-wise, so SOTD is Eau Claire des Merveilles layered over Eau des Merveilles.

Profumum, it’s an Oswald’s exclusive scent. I got in on a split. I’m not positive who was the wonderful perfume fairy who hosted the split. Possibly Foxbins? It was a blind buy but she described Meringa as lemon meringue and that was all I needed to know.

I had a boss way back when who did that. Just close his door and lay under the desk.

I had another boss who had a couch. He’d shut the door and ask me to knock in 45 minutes.

Both men are quite successful, by the way,

I had a female coworker who reportedly pulled the Costanza on a regular basis (I never witnessed it.) One of my (male) bosses took a nap every day in his desk chair after lunch. Had another female coworker who napped in her car every day at lunch.

I find all of the above quite odd, as I’d never be able to – or want – to fall asleep in public. That said, I’m one of those people who isn’t good at napping (I have to be on the verge of collapse to pull it off) which makes me envious of those who can fall asleep at the drop of a hat, any time, any where. My husband is one of them…

I can’t nap anywhere, and while the under the desk nap thing was a joke, I really would enjoy having this skill. And I think Floragal’s right – I think men would find it much easier to get away with this.

    1) It’s gonna be very warm today, so SOTD is a all over spraying of Satsuma body mist with a tiny bit of Jour d’Hermes Absolue(from a sample). Citrusy and airy!

    2) OOTD: A printed linen dress, black sandals under a labcoat!

Don’t get freaked out at the inspection report–every one I’ve ever had makes it sound like the house should be condemned. Sewer, electricity, and roof issues are the only things that concerned me, mostly because of safety issues and/or $$$ to fix.

SOTD = Prada Infusion d’Iris Absolue

I was inspired by She-ra’s SOTD yesterday and nozknoz’ comment that it’s “CHILL” 🙂

I am wearing a long-forgotten short-sleeved berry-colored square-necked linen shirt. I don’t typically wear linen because the fabric is too high maintenance (this particular shirt is dry clean only). I will look into washable line although I may have to get over my aversion to ironing (I don’t even own an iron so will need to use my mini-steamer).

It had been really chilly where I live until a few days ago and rather than being cross about not being able to dip into my summer wardrobe yet, I guess I took the “if you can’t beat ’em, join ’em” approach and spent the last month or so shopping for winter dresses. I started getting really annoyed that shops don’t have sweaters and winter coats out yet, LOL

I’ve always told myself I should buy discounted out of season winter gear in summer to get the best deals, but it’s hard to think about wool in 80 degree weather. When it’s in the low 60s, it makes all the sense in the world :/

How is it possible to sleep all night long and wake up as tired as when I turned the light out last night? It’s just silly! I’m doing such a major droop thatI should probably wear a cologne-type perfume and re-spray for energising top notes all day, but as I looked at Narcisse Bleu, my hand reached for Back to Black, and whoosh! here I am, smelling all sweet and cuddly, and how very misleading that is! It’s a red boots day, too! Talk about incongruence!

    Be well, all.

It’s the winter droop, I think. Have you noticed how much lighter the mornings are? I think our sunrise is now 8.05am and there was a definite smell of spring in the air yesterday.

Yes, and it’s light until after six, though not enough to read by. Definitely getting warmer…hurrah for that!

I hesitate to say this, but it could be important. Does this happen often? Do you snore? Waking up tired is one of the signs of sleep apnea.

You’re so kind to be concerned! I don’t think I snore (the dear one hasn’t complained, in all events, and I think he would) but I do think I may be incubating a ghastly bug of some sort. A colleague was snorting disgustingly all last week, and it seems to have been a friendly and enveloping germ. Also, I think I’ve just about reached my stress limit. When I clear some big projects, I’ll probably feel less exhausted and weighed down. I just need the chance to get to my own work…

Lounging around avoiding the heat wearing Seville l’aube.

I started my day trying to complete a watercolor that isn’t what I want it to be – the cry of the amateur painter!

I’ve been inspired by Bear to be Diorageous…so am wearing Hypnotic Poison . Poison Girl is screaming with rage from the sock drawer ….a bit of a Joan Crawford / Bette Davis situation has erupted in the bedroom with poor old Monsieur Li ( dressed in his immaculate linen suit) caught in the middle.

Exciting day here in Wellington, the Australian department store David Jones is opening! Our grand old department store Kirkcaldie and Stains closed in January after 150 years, and it’s been a painful gap in my perfume and cosmetic life.

I don’t know yet what perfume brands David Jones will carry, but there’s sure to be something interesting (and scary for the bank balance). Now I’ve just got to decide what to wear today in honour of the occasion. Maybe OJ Woman, it’s a favourite.

Am on day 2 of an iris kick; this morning it was ADP Iris Nobile. I was literally signing into STC to buy a large decant of TDC Bois d’Iris when my husband called to report that our car’s at the mechanic getting a $650 fix, so Bois d’Iris will have to wait… 🙁

In other news, I am breaking my medically-restricted diet which forbids tea and enjoying an icy cold glass of Citron Oolong from David’s Tea. It’s oolong, lemon myrtle and jasmine blossoms and is the drinkable equivalent of L’Artisan Thé pour un Été, so I might have to put that one once the iris wears off. It will take more resistance than I have not to drink the entire pitcher I made yesterday. Oops.

Some days you wake up crabby and incapable of decision making, and that’s why you keep a little bit of Mugler cologne in the fridge.

I’m wearing Philosykos today. I’m grumpy because of the gross hot weather. However I’m happy because darn it, I smell amazing! Thank you so much Olivia Giacobetti.

My Internet connectivity today is utterly craptastic. However, my SOTD is not… sampling Studio Red Rose from Soivohle. Boy, this is nice!

I guess spicy roses can play well in the summer heat.

I’m pretty late to the party today, but I’m wearing Putain des Palaces. I wore Cuir de Lancome yesterday.

It was an Ylang 49 day, works well in the heat and humidity.
