Hermes Galop d’Hermes ~ new perfume

Posted by Robin on 26 July 2016 35 Comments

Galop d'Hermès

Hermès will introduce Galop d'Hermès, a new fragrance for women, in September.

Galop d'Hermès was developed by house perfumer Christine Nagel. The oriental fragrance centers on rose and leather, with additional notes of saffron and quince.

Galop d'Hermès will be available in 50 ml refillable Eau de Parfum (with a 125 ml refill bottle sold separately).

(via 160grams, daisybeauty, amayzine)

I am very interested in smelling this. I do not like that bottle. At all. (I get the stirrup reference.)

Ah, wonder what the general feeling will be on the bottle? I like it. And look forward to smelling it, of course, although not at all sure yet that Christine Nagel and I will be BFF 😉

I like the bottle very much, and I’m always willing to try another leather rose.

As for Nagel, she did do Theorema and some of the interesting Mugler flankers, so she automatically gets a pass, but she’s also responsible for a massive wave of Jo Malones, which I just absolutely don’t get. So who knows?

With the Jo Malones, it’s a style that the company wants and that she seems to provide to their satisfaction. Perfumers gotta eat too. 🙂
Luckily for her and us, Mugler allows “interesting.”
So it could be a coin toss here.

          Bottle vote: I like it.

I’m sure it will be beautifully done and feel pleasant in hand but the shape to me is weird.

Like the bottle – how it swings. Not so sure I like Christine Nagel’s work…though I did wear Chopard Madness for a while.

I really like the bottle! Rose isn’t my favorite floral, but I’ll definitely give it a whirl if I see it (unlikely where I live, but that’s life!).

I thought the bottle was too literal, but then, after reading the notes (I’m so sold), on a second look, it seems smooth, nice to handle, fun and the leather detail is cute. Did I say I’m sold?

No you didn’t. I’m sold as well. I’m just so curious to see what Nagel will do with Hermès.

Like the bottle, modern. Rose and leather? Interested but doubt will beat my beloved Cuir de Lancome.

I like the bottle. Rose can go either way with me, and I find most leather perfumes problematic, so this will be one to sample carefully before buying. (I know that goes without saying for all you NST sophisticates, but I’ve bought many a Hermès unsniffed).

Rose leather saffron quince = ??? I am mystified by those notes, definitely would like to try it. I don’t think I’ve smelled anything from Hermès with a leather note.

“Galop” is a pretty word in spoken French, different and nicer to my ear than the sound of “gallop” in English. I like the bit of phonetic similarity between Galop d’Hermès and Eau d’Hermès. It reminds me of the how often I hear the word “eau” in the world of perfume.

I want to hold the bottle and loop the leather cording around my wrist. Charming!

I like the bottle from the picture, but I’ll reserve judgment until I can see it in person. The notes sound right up my alley, so I will want to try it.

Bottle Lust, Engaged!!!!! SUPER GORGEOUS!!!!! And leather and rose… I’m in already! After the magnificence of “Voyage” and “Le Jour” (both MASTERPIECES) am very excited to see where Ms. Nagel will go after the illustrious Ellena! Excited, indeed!

Well, I adore Ellena’s nose and I loathe “on the nose” scent packaging, so I await this one with more than a whiff of suspicion.

Whenever I see saffron listed as a note, leather is allways also listed. My guess is they all use safraleine which smells of both.

Christine Nagel is so different from Ellena. I wonder if customers will be confused.
