The damage so far: second quarter 2016 buying poll

Posted by Robin on 5 July 2016 251 Comments

Donatella Versace and her perfume cabinets

And the year marches on...yes, it's time for Donatella, Our Lady of Perfumed Abundance,1 to check in with her flock. Donatella wants to know what you bought in the 2nd quarter (April, May and June) of 2016.

damage-last-time

My purchases...

I bought a 10 ml bottle of Lush Kerbside Violet ($24). Then, as I predicted last quarter, I did some damage with Hermès. I bought a quartet of travel sizes from the regular line (Monsieur Li, Terre d'Hermès, Ambre des Merveilles and Eau de Néroli Doré), plus two from the Hermessence line (Cuir d'Ange and Muguet Porcelaine). That brought my total for the quarter to $242. Added to my first quarter expenditures, my grand total for the year so far is $273. It is more than I meant to spend, but I'm reminding myself that I spent nothing all of last year.

As always, report your purchases in the comments if you dare! And as always, we don't include samples or gifts, and you can count miniatures, decants and bottle-splits howsoever you like (I usually count them as half bottles). Samples don't generally count at all, even though some of us spend considerable sums obtaining them.

1. Why does Donatella host (against her will, mind you) the damage polls? There is no real reason other than the picture of her perfume collection, which shows that she indulges regularly at the perfume counter. The image, by the way, is originally from Allure magazine and appears here courtesy of Blogdorf Goodman.

I try to uphold my moratorium on new scents but I always, always weaken when I’m on vacation. The damage this quarter, and in fact this year, from a trip to Berlin and Montreal in May:

2 ounces vintage Eau de Courreges edt (‘60s or ‘70s, not sure), & 4 ounces vintage Fidji edt (’70’s I think), both for €15 (about $20 CAD)
SL Le Vapo Tout Noir in Fourreau Noir, $120 CAD

My terrible confession is that I already have a full bell jar of Fourreau Noir (bought on vacation, obviously, at the boutique in Paris), but I almost never wear it because I put some into a sprayer when I got home and it evaporated, and I can’t just wear it right out of the bottle because it will get contaminated and ruined. My reasoning (if you can call it that) in buying the Vapo is that I would use up one of the 30-mL vapos and then refill it from the bell jar. We’ll see how that goes. I *have* been wearing it a lot more than other scents, to try to make that happen.

I feel that Donatella understands my madness, and I think you all do, too.

(P.S. it doesn’t REALLY count but in the spirit of complete disclosure I also bought one booklet each of the three Papiers d’Armenie at a fantastic pen store in Berlin called Luiban. Total of €11, maybe.)

OF COURSE Donatella understands. She probably bought multiple Le Vapos.

I really enjoyed FN though it’s more of a decant affinity than love. Still, I totally understand. I’m halfway through my ISM bell jar and have been eyeing the Vapo to stem the flow.

I’ll say. I have two of them, Fourreau Noir and Rahät Loukoum, and of course the sprays are identical, no markings on them of any sort, but all you have to do is pop the cap and take a sniff and you know which is which.

I’m slightly baffled that SL refers to them as “travel sprays”, though, because they are awfully clunky to fit into your one-litre zip bag. The gorgeous Hermes 15-mL sprays or those slender 10-mL Ormonde Jayne wands seem more in line with travelling as it is done nowadays. Or, obviously, many many samples, which is how I usually do it.

Perfume bought while traveling is always worth it and needs no justification, because when you use it later, it can transport you back to that place. 🙂

That’s what I tell myself. And it’s true! I could tell you where I bought pretty much every bottle I own. Some of them have wonderful, wonderful memories: Yvresse on my very first trip to London, Chypre Rouge on a memorable New York vacation….

Although I am still buying more than I should, I did so much better this quarter. Here’s my damage:
    – Queen (Queen Latifah) body butter – – – I know technically this doesn’t count, but it goes with the perfume I bought last quarter
    – 100ml Ysatis by Givenchy
    – 50ml Lady Vengeance by Juliette Has A Gun
    – 50ml Ikat Jasmine by Aerin Lauder

I think this is the least amount of fragrance I have ever purchased in a quarter – progress is being made slowly but surely!

I like it a lot. It’s my favorite out of the whole line. But, I love jasmine. I just wished it lasted longer on me. I’m very heavy-handed with fragrance, but it last 2 hours tops on me without reapplying.

Bless me, Donatella, for lo, I stumbled, and alas, I fell. I had told myself that this was to be a no-buy quarter, after having done some significant damage in the last one. Let’s see how that worked out:

    30 ml Neroli Portofino
    Geisha Vanilla Hinoki
    30 ml Ryder
    Moon Bloom (le swoon!)
    Vintage Diorissimo
    Vintage Mitsouko parfum
    Wee little Bronze Goddess rollerball

In my defense, all were on sale (except the vintages, and they were very affordably priced). So really, in the long run, I *saved* money! 😉

O Donatella, as always, I enjoy our conversations, imaginary though they may be.

I started out the quarter on a ‘no buy’ and violated it on day one. Day one! Where is my self control?? (My “what”, you may ask, with good reason.) In my defense, Byredo Pulp.

However, I did improve over the quarter (couldn’t get no worse, you say; I hear you.) As usual, mini’s don’t count so we’ll ignore those Le Galion’s and even the Hermes travel set. I’m not sure Demeters count either, considering they’re pretty much the perfume equivalent of snacks. I’ll list them anyway just to be fair, since they are larger than my (somewhat flexible) definition of mini.

    1. Byredo Pulp, 100ml
    2. Estee Lauder Dazzling Silver, ~50ml
    3. AdP Ginepro di Sardegnia, 75ml
    4. Rouge Bunny Rouge Lilt, 50ml
    5. PdN Cuir Cuba, 30ml
    6. Demeter This Is Not A Pipe, 30ml
    7. Demeter Honeysuckle, 30ml
    8. Demeter Black Ginger, 30ml

BUT. I also sold, swapped, or gave away SEVEN FB’s this quarter. Squinting only a little, that’s pretty much a wash. Which is a record for me since I fell down this rabbit hole.

I think I deserve to congratulate myself with a perfume purchase, no? 🙂

A single bottle is all that comes to mind for me this past quarter. I’m loving Geisha Vanilla Hinoki eau de parfum, my very first purchase from Luckyscent. (Still taking baby steps!)

I’ve worn GVH so often over the past weeks it feels like the scent of the summer for me. Maria McElroy and aroma M perfumes are beyond wonderful.

Kudos to Luckyscent for sending my bottle practically overnight. I live very near their distribution center, so I was able to order fragrance during warm weather without worrying about extended exposure to heat in transit.

I did not buy any full or mini bottles in April/May/June, though I was a sampling maniac throughout June and bought a few 5 ml decants (Songes, Terracotta, Chanel Boy)

Nothing too bad to report! I did some damage at the discounters though. I was buying my mother some Hermes L’Eau de Mandarine Ambree and went ahead and bought myself 50 ml of A Scent and 45ml of Bulgari Black, both unsniffed and both about $25 each. I’m saving up for some big damage when I go to Los Angeles for a concert at the end of August. I want to get something special and of course I’ve vacillated each week. It’ll be a surpise, I guess!

For the last few years my rule has been that you are allowed to buy scents within (or without) reason while on vacation because 1) they serve as souvenirs of the trip and 2) you might never see them again. Los Angeles, I take it, is a great place to buy fragrances, too, what with Scent Bar and Perfumes West and all those boutiques.

Heeley Sel Marin Travel Set (3×15 ml)

Decants (per Robin’s suggestion, I count them as 1/2 bottle each):
Creed Virgin Island Water 10 ml
    Penhaligon’s Blenheim Bouquet 7 ml
Paul Emilien Pure Addiction 7 ml
    Diptique Tam Dao 10 ml

Obviously, this quarter I went for woods, citruses and herbs.:)

Hi everyone, I’ve been absent for about a week, and so glad I didn’t miss the damage poll:) I really need to confess. I bought Prada Candy Kiss, a repurchase of Black Opium, Les Parfums De Cuir Alien, Miu Miu, Dior Le Parfum, Chance eau Vive, JHaG Mad Madame. For the record, none at full price. Also I paid five dollars each for 3 of the following full tester bottles, CK Eternity Aqua, JC LaLa, and Ed Hardy Love and Luck. Jeeze Louise.

I hadn’t bought anything in such a long time, but bought a couple Omnias, thanks to everyone talking about them during Morillas week! I got an Omnia Paraiba mini and Crystalline travel size (less than $20). I liked the Paraiba so much, I found a tester on Overstock for super cheap (less than $30). Enabler alert – overstock.com has many of the Omnias really cheap (except the original one – they have it, but it is more pricey).

And I’ll be on Jeopardy! tonight! Watch me explain to Alex what a perfumista is!

Sigh… but thank GOODNESS Q2 is over because I need to reset my counter. Last quarter I got:

    – Putain des Palaces (bottle)
    – Lush All Good Things (purse spray)
    – Vanilla Hinoki oil (rollerball)*
    – Narciso (bottle)
    – Safran Troublant (bottle)
    -CB IHP 1966 (bottle)

Nothing was more than $60/65ish, so my spending ended up not being too crazy, but with my birthday AND wedding coming up in Q3, I anticipate a lot more damage to come.

*Vanilla Hinoki’s headed to the next swap meet, if anyone’s interested!

Objectively, I can appreciate its prettiness, but I prefer sweet vanillas, and on my skin, the particular woody aspects just aren’t for me. It definitely gets a lot of love, though!

I was quite good this quarter. I only bought one: 31 Rue Cambon. I have a twinge of guilt since I bought it as a fear-buy based on the rumours about Les Exclusifs but since I divested of more perfumes this quarter than bought, I figure that I’m actually in a negative balance for the next quarter. Perfumath strikes again!

That the current EDTs will be pulled this fall, “relabelled” as EDPs for 2017 and a pursuant price increase. How they will be reformed is of course the big question.

Not sure how to count things this quarter…. I think I shall employ creative accounting here! I bought three full bottles, two minis, and two 5ml decants.

50ml Teo Cabanel Early Roses, secondhand but 99% full, on ebay.
8 oz B&BW Freesia body spray (does that really count? I’m on the fence about whether *I* think it should count.)
15ml Prince 3121, which I had been pondering for some time but finally bought for $7 right after his death. It’s sort of terrible, but I suppose I’m glad I bought it.
    5ml mini Bvlgari Omnia Paraiba
4ml mini Smell Bent Florist’s Fridge, after I used up my first one
5ml decant MCG Rrose Selavy (unsniffed, and I hope I like it)
5ml decant LM Parfums Aldheyx (ditto)

    $107, including shipping.
OH CRAP. No, $117. I forgot buying a 1-oz bottle of “Plumeria cologne” in Hawaii. It’s body-spray strength and is probably entirely synthetic, but it’s like Sand & Sable Ultra-lite.

I got several of those Plumeria or White Ginger perfumes as souvenirs when we went to Hawaii more often as a kid (my dad is from there and has retired there). Hope you had fun – Kauai is on my list for our next trip to Hawaii, as I’ve only been to the Big Island, Maui, and Oahu.

    Estee Lauder Knowing 30 ml
We’ll see how it goes after my vacation, I’m thinking of both Chanel exclusives, Frederic Malle travelsprays and something from Divine…

I was so good in the first quarter, but boy did the second make up for it. I held off in April, but in May I bought 8 travel sizes of smellies from Smell Bent. I also bought 3 different discovery sets from Sephora. Then In June, I bought 3 5 ml decants from STC on one of their Five Ml Friday sales. I also took advantage of Smell Bent’s Garage Sale and purchased discontinued perfume oils, 3 travel sizes of their discontinued Fashiony (love it), and two full bottles of Mots Verts (also discontinued) and the new Frankensmellie Celebrity Garden Party. All in, I spent $243.24. Which is more than 3/4 of my budget for the year.

R, you should remind yourself, as well, that it makes us all feel better when you buy something. And you got such lovely things! It pleases me to think of you with your long-plotted Hermes purchases.

And I.. somehow, um, bought nothing! Again. And no buying freeze this time, just being poor and busy and buying waaay too many books instead. I got perfume for my birthday this year, which I refuse to count as a purchase, after getting a Walmart fan for my birthday and Mother’s Day last year, so that crutched me through a bit. I think there will be an early July purchase any minute now, though — maybe Serge Lutens La Fille de Berlin or some Aesop Tacit?

Forgot to say “Yay!” to you Robin on your Hermes acquisitions. I love Hermes for the 15 ml bottles (yes so cute!), plus the fragrances are for me very often love at first sniff like Eau des Merveilles, or a scent will often unfold for me over a long time to become a great love like Ambre Narguile.

I have two FBs to declare this quarter, and it was an extreme act of willpower that prevented it being more. The willpower will likely run out during the next quarter!

I finally tried Tea for Two last year and loved it, but that coincided it with it being out of stock at all the discounters that post to NZ, so grabbing it the moment it reappeared can, I think, be justified as a long-planned purchase.

I also bought Night Flower by Eris Parfums. I contributed a tiny amount to Barbara Hermann’s indiegogo campaign, so was keenly hoping that I’d like at least one of the three. So I think this can also be considered a fully justified purchase 🙂

I think I only bought three things this quarter!
30 ml L’Artisan L’Eau d’Ambre Extreme for £19.99 at TK Maxx, so only about $25 at the time
50 ml Boudicca Wode about €90 but my enabler husband believes in supporting great small stores so that was my tiny contribution to keeping Jovoy in business.
Small back-up bottle of Bulgaria Black for lovely enabler husband.
Not bad at all but I do feel a serious bender coming on…. I tried to satiate that urge with some samples from STC today, so we’ll see if that works.

Since my birthday was in May, I treated myself well this quarter. And some purchases were made with gift cards-so free, really.
    Ann Gerard discovery set
    8ml L’Air d’Rien decant
10ml decants of Rue Cambon & Bois d’Iles
10ml decant SHL Kohl de Bahrein
    100ml Jardains D’Ecrivains Marlowe
15ml MCG Rrose Selavy & Syconium
I was spared the expense of Andrea Maack Coven, since my sister was generous enough to by it for me. So with that $ saved, MCG Hanbury and Chatenton Macerations Asphalt Rainbow are under consideration.

I really like all 4 of the perfumes and they’re 7.5ml samples, so for $68 it’s a pretty nice deal. I like Rose Cut and Perle de Mousse best, but I’ll probably finish all of them eventually. They’re all very sheer, but have decent staying power on me-except Cuir Nacre, which ironically seems to be the heftiest one, notes wise.

I’m in the 2 to 4 bottles bubble this quarter, but just by the skin of my nose as I ordered two Diptyques just yesterday (but they’re the rare-ish travel size, and were on sale!), and I don’t count decants until they reach 30 mls (unless they’re extraits, of course). Purchases in the prior quarter were Dior Homme, YSL Cinema, Ivoire de Balmain (vintage), and Le Galion Iris.

Ah, nuts. I just remembered that I also purchased Hermes Eau Claire des Merveilles last quarter. So now I’ve gone and lied to Donatella, and messed up Robin’s poll. Dagnabbit!

FM En Passant travel size, something I reach for every spring.
VP Rozy voile d’extrait, 5 ml, incredibly beautiful.
ELDO Putain des Palaces, full bottle. I wore this a lot until summer arrived. I like how affordable this line is.

Moving three times + breaking my leg led to a no-buy since December-ish, which has led to a delightful number of swaps, which kept the curiosity and interest engaged, without the financial aspect.
However, some of those swaps have led to likes and loves, which has re-ignited a wish to buy something(s).

Hmm….6 bottles, which is a lot but hear me out. A bargain vintage No5 parfum, bargain vintage Diorissimo esprit de parfum, a very cheap Marni Spice from TK Maxx. All on the famous auction site.

Now the splashes: vintage Shalimar parfum, a so cute 30ml of Brulure de Rose by parfumerie generale and a handy travel size of Serge Lutens Feminite du Bois. Everyone needs a travel size FdB. You know… when I want a lighter-mood fruity cedarwood than the Shiseido vintage offers. Yeah…I *need* it.

Lady Donatella, I was strong, and then I weakened! Nothing all year except a bottle of Queen(NZ $36-ish), and because I believe in acknowledging the good work of others, I will despatch enabler pins to all who talked about it here and brought it to my attention. I enjoy it very much. Then, just now in Melbourne, a set of Hermessences 15 ml sprays A$220, but who cares? One of them is Ambre Narguile, which I adore, because after all, what could be nicer than smelling like apple crumble? And then, the By Kilian set, A$276…the Kiwi $ is trading almost at par with the Aussie at the moment, so it sounds as though I’ve spent a little over $500 this year. Mind you,the year is far from over…well, Lady Donatella, I love them all. What’s a girl to do?

I bought the Ambre Narguile, which I totally fell in love with the moment it hit my skin a few months back, then Santal Massoia, because it is rich and interesting, Vanille Galante, because it’s just gorgeous and the only fruity perfume I have ever truly liked, and Vetiver Tonka, because it is dry and crisp and interesting. I’m going back to Oz in October, and I think I will repeat the travel spray exercise, including another bottle of the Ambre (maybe even two) and the Muguet, which had really good staying power on my skin. I found the Hermessences lasted pretty well, though I topped up once during the day and enjoyed that.

Thanks to Elisa P for the excuse/reminder – my birthday was also in May. Being on central nervous system overload with the move and house purchase, I stuck with easygoing Bronze Goddess: the oil, spray bottle and travel mist. The last two are both labelled “eau fraiche/skinscent spray” and seem very fleeting. Does anyone know if this is a new format, did it previously (or does it) come in a stronger version? Someone mentioned it in cologne format recently. Anyway, about $180 in damage. The price of living in a stressful world.

I finally remembered to keep track of my purchases, and I must say, I got some good stuff. Thank God for discounters (for most of them).
Queen Latifah Queen 100 ml $9.99
    Ostara 100 ml $86
    Neela Vermeire coffret 125 euro
Penhaligon’s Endymion (for the hubby, does that mitigate?) $58
Lolita Lempicka original EDP 100 ml $28 (bought with the Endymion because–had to get the free shipping, right?)
    Commodity Gold travel spray $24
    Aerin Lilac Path rollerball $28
and the total icing on the cake:
Lengling Perfumes A La Carte parfum 50 ml 190 euro.
Grand total in US dollars, 589.94. Should have held out for a better price on the Ostara, especially since not sure my husband likes it, but it had disappeared from the Penhaligon’s website and is being discontinued.

I’ve been on a search for a warm weather fragrance – I needed some citrus (but not furniture polishy lemon), I needed airiness, light floral, not too much musk. I needed fairly ‘clean’ as in not indolic. I needed “wear anywhere/anytime” and I think I was successful with my two purchases of the quarter. In particular, the Thé Pour un Été was a good price as well. But one of my personal buying rules is that I have to want it even when it’s full price.

A few years ago, I went in search for a few go-tos for the truly hot weather we get from time to time. It was tougher than I expected! Looks like you found a few good ones!

Thanks to pixel, my perfume snack of Fragonard’s Fleur d’Orangeur doesn’t really count (15 ml for $18!)

I also bought a vat of Marni on ebay – 4 ounces for a whopping $26. Now, I have no need for 4 ounces, but how could I say no to that?

I ran out of Hermes Eau des Merveilles, so I bought 30 ml ($38) and I decided I really, really need a bottle of Seville l’Aube ($48). I wish I could find L’artisans at my TJ Maxx (nothing but celeb scents at mine), but the discounters usually offer some good prices on them – that’s how I rationalize it, anyway!

Only one bottle and it is perfect – Philosykos EDP. I was about to panic buy two of the Chanel exclusifs (no. 18 and Cuir de Russie), but then I realized that frantic panic buying is not a good idea for either my budget or my psyche. If the exclusifs get priced out of my range, then so be it.

Sistine, how is the longevity of no. 18? I have a small sample and it doesn’t last more than 2 hours on me. I don’t know if by spraying freely I will get a better result. I really love it.

I get probably 8 hours from no. 18 before it becomes a skin scent to me (from a spray 5 ml decant). However, my skin may be odd because things like Tauer perfumes last maybe 2 hours on me, and everyone else says they last forever. On the other hand, Jo Malone fragrances will last 24 hours on my skin, and the Hermesscences will last at least 10 hours.

I bought more perfume than in any other quarter, mostly because I came across an excellent discounter with too many too good a deals to pass…and because I just love perfume. Dyptique Essences Insensees 2015 solid, Eau Rose, Houbigant Orangers en Fleurs, Miller Harris la Pluie, Ineke the Poet’s Jasmine, Annick Goutal Quel Amour, Rose Absolue, Ninfeo Mio, Isle au The, Petite Cherie, Acqua di Parma Iris Nobile EdP and vintage Amouage Gold travelspray, Baiser Voler, vintage Madame Rochas, travelspray Muguet Porcelaine. I am very happy with all of them.

Unless I’m forgetting something (always possible), I haven’t bought much this quarter. I got a 100ml bottle of Queen Latifah Queen of Hearts for $10 and two 30ml Demeters – Dirt and Honeysuckle. I got the Demeters when Walgreens was having its 20% sale, so I think I paid $24 for the two of them.

    Gardenia Batik travel spray $24
    Tropicana $135
    Golden Acacia $133

Things were light this quarter. I don’t think that Donatella counts travel sprays. If she does, I messed up the poll, too. 😛 The tally:

30mL bottle of Gucci EdP (square bottle with brown liquid)
    travel spray of Rose Anonyme

Given that Ari and Lucasai were discussing the acquisition of Atelier recently, maybe I should pull the trigger on the travel spray of Orange Sanguine ASAP. I like how it smells now!

I’m trying to not buy fragrance and save for all the big expenses in the coming year, but I felt like an exception was in order. (Also bought some BG body cream, but it doesn’t count!) Pretty frugal quarter by my usual standards, in any case!

    – Chanel Eau de Cologne
    – Jo Malone Wild Strawberry & Parsley
    – Thierry Mugler Angel Muse

All five are worn and loved. More importantly, though, I have secured some YSL Champagne and TF Velvet Gardenia thanks to generous NSTers and I couldn’t be happier.

Someone I loved died unexpectedly which more or less ended my chase for perfume, and anything else. However, I swapped a gift I got for California Reverie which turned out to be extremely comforting. Eau Premiere, California Reverie and Lush’s massage bar, Tender is the Night have been carrying me through.

Parfum Sacre (math problem question). How many bottles did I actually buy:
8 ml decant from STC that smelled light, but passable,
    which lead to
50 ml EDP latest formulation, white label, traded for and still very light unless I firehose it on there
    which lead to
50 ml vintage from eBay, smelled very good, but still a little light, was in a splash bottle and not sprayer as advertised so I returned it
    Then I received a
50 ml vintage replacement bottle from eBay, this one with sprayer, and guess what, it’s still not the one.

Other than that, I got a 2oz bottle of Elizabeth W Vetiver for $45.
And a 1.7 oz bottle of Chanel 19 EDT for $35.

I’m away from home which makes it hard to remember, plus May was my birthday month so too many purchases. But what I am sure of, all the smaller sizes when available.

    Chanel 32 Rue Cambon
    Chanel 28 La Pausa
Hermes Rhubarbe I forget the name!
    Carner Barcelona Costarela
    Masque Milano Romanza
    Masque Milano L’Attesa
    Diptyque Eau de Sens
    Heeley Sel Marin 3 x 15
    Parfum F’Empire Corsica Furiosa
    Parfum d’Empire Eau Suave
    Vero Profumo Mito EDP
    Papillon Tobacco Rose
    TDC Tokyo Bloom
Miller and Harris Fleur de Sel

Oof too much, even with sales, buying at half price, etc. I was working an extra admin job this year and rewarded myself with massive perfume purchases. It’s all over now, but I’ve got perfume for a lifetime.

This quarter, I’ve had two planned purchases, and two unplanned.
Planned: two 15 ml Hermessences – Ambre Narguile and Iris Ukiyoe, 50 ml export bottle of SL Chene.
Unplanned: 10 ml decant of ELDO Jasmin&Cigarette (well, this was not completely unplanned, I was thinking of getting a bottle of J&C for a loooong time, finally got a decant and will probably do without a FB), 30 ml Roger&Gallet Fleur d’Osmanthus (this one was totally unplanned – I only wanted to try a R&G’s soap, but, really, why would anybody buy a single soap bar when one can buy a set with a soap bar and a bottle of eau?)

I can’t exactly remember how many bottles I have bought but it’s somewhere between 4 and 6 and I can’t remember what they are except another bottle of vintage Bal and vintage Miss Dior that I got both got for a song. My travel set from Andy Tauer came today. Orange Star, Phi une Rose de Kandahar, and I can’t remember the third because I don’t have them in front of me. I was tickled about the generous fist full of sample and large ones at that. Being thanked by Andy Tauer himself blew my mind and I wasn’t expecting that.

I’m surprised by how much I like.it I usually dislike tabacco notes in perfume so I’m not sure how often I’ll wear it for the same reason. Plus it’s not exactly office appropriate, IMO. I do like smelling it though! I guess I’ll see next fall and winter.

I’m away from home and only remembered going a bit crazy with Ostara on sale and hearing it was discontinued. I have it coming out of my ears…rollerballs, 50 ml and 100 ml. Told myself I could always sell it…

Had thought that was it till I saw floragal mention Cuir de Lancome. Yep, that was my e-bay purchase. I’m supposed to be on a no buy!

I haven’t bought this many full bottles in a couple years I think.

Buying perfume is directly correlated with annoyance at work for me…and it has been a particularly annoying 2016 at my company. 😉

-2 bottles of 31 RC….one is current formula and another bottle with a 2011 batch code…haven’t opened the 2011 year yet to compare and contrast but will report when I do. I know, I know…it is a sickness of sorts…
-Box of Eels which I am looking forward to wearing if/when the weather cools
    -Diptyque Essences Insensees Jasmine
    -Alien Eau Extraordinaire
    -Prada Infusion Absolue

Confession and perfume are good for the soul.

I’m so with you re: correlation of perfume buying and work annoyance. And I’m also having a crap year so far. There go all my no-buy resolutions. But I always tell myself that I could have been drinking instead, and that would have been much worse.

Beginning of the quarter was pretty good for me. However, not counting decants (because these do not count in Parfume math), here is the damage
Sultan Pasha’s new Iris. Have not received it yet as he was waiting for another one of his creations to be ready and send me a sample – so maybe this one does not count
    Vanilla Honoki
Auphorie Miyako. I adore it! So far it has not been too temperamental on me.
    Auphorie Regal secret
    Auphorie eternal voyage
    Zelda
I also got 1 ml attars of Rising Phoenix – and I am very impressed. Poisoned fig is an amazing smoky creation; more beauty than beast – I don’t even know how to describe it, but it is sex on legs; Musc rose is an amazing rose. Those all were 1 ml and they do not count 🙂 but I highly recommend the brand.

Pregnancy hormones kept me from buying (or even thinking of fragrances) at the beginning of the quarter, but when the magical 17th week mark passed, the great smelly everything suddenly stumbled into being swoonworthy again… Sigh. So I quickly spent my since accumulated perfume allowance on:

    100 ml Goutal Quel Amour!
    30 ml Les Nereides Opoponax
A 15 ml mini of Ninfeo Mio in a cute splasher bottle
A backup 50 ml bottle of Songes (She needs me, you see?)
Pacifica Tuscan Blood Orange because I was craving it (no, not anymore)
30 ml of Comptoir’s Vanille Coco (What?? I still don’t understand, must be the hormones but its pure bliss nowadays)
A 30 ml Cashmere Musk named thingie from the drugstore I just randomly sniffed at and fell in love with – I don’t even know the brand name?…
Two 7 ml minis of my favourite Monas – Rose Etoile and Vanille – but alas, I still cannot wear those yet… Maybe a few weeks later,
And a 100 ml bottle of Tea for Two, but that does not count as I ordered that ont he 30th and will only arrive next week!

I’ve been bad. But did I not deserve it after three months of morning sickness? Yes Man.

Nice buys. And congratiulation on both pregnancy and getting over the first horrible 17 weeks. I vividly remember hose first weeks, two times I’ve been there and both were filled with nausea (but where ofcourse well worth it).

        Thank you!
Yes, rumour has it that after it’s all done, they’ll give you a baby that you can take home with you, right?:) Seriously, the first months are funny. Expecting both my older kids went this way as well. No perfume for months! With the first one I was stupid enough to sell some, now I know better just to wait it out and lock them away in a box:).
Btw, Ari got me with Safran Troublant as well! Didn’t really *get* it before that.

I’m not sure about the dates, but there goes.

L’Artisan Safran troublant, 100 ml. (Many thanks to Arielle Shosanna who wrote about it in such a way that I had tomtry it. Now its one of my favorites.)
    L’Artisan Seville a aube, 50 ml – Another love.
Mugler Angel muse – a gift for mothers day
Chanel Boy, sample – I know everybody seems to swoon around this, but for me the top and middle are *maybe* almost acceptable soap. Base is good.

I feel like most everyone is done with this thread, so I can post safely under the radar while still confessing. Compared to most of you, I’m quite restrained, but I’m also on a grad student budget, so I may have done greater than proportionate damage to my bank account.

Here’s my damage, with each separate point counting as a bottle to me:

    – Bottle of Guerlain Vetiver
    – Bottle of Yves Rocher Fraise Mara des Bois (really, really smells like strawberries! I can’t really wear it anywhere without feeling like I’m trying to be a teenager, but it’s quite fun to wear at home)
    – Set of minis of vintage Dior extraits de parfum
    – Twenty-one vintage minis purchased at an antique fair, most of which give me a headache (oakmoss?) and will thus likely be given or swapped away soon

I also got a bunch of samples, which of course don’t count. I also got eight bottles of amazing body oil (four l’Occitane l’Arlésienne, one l
Occitane Fleur d’Or et Acacia, one Yves Rocher Monoï de Tahiti, one Deep Steep Passionfruit and Guava, and one Graine de Pastel, which is actually made near where I live, and is marvelous, and which will probably end up being a present for my mother), and I feel like all eight bottles together might count as one bottle of perfume, but I’ve taken the liberty of pretending they don’t. (To those of you who have recently told me that body oils go rancid pretty quickly, well…I wish I had known this before buying all this body oil :-/ Luckily, I work through it fairly quickly!)

However, I feel I didn’t do too badly, because I received either in swaps or in return for nothing except gratitude/appreciation an absolute MOUNTAIN of scents. Thanks, really, to all of you incredibly generous perfumistas. I’m hoping that between all the things I’ve received and the promise of shiny new scents in the swapmeet this fall, I’ll avoid buying anything this coming quarter. Although there will be a very tempting splitmeet. And my birthday is coming in a few weeks, and don’t I deserve something for that? Sigh.

Something of an expensive month, although three bottles doesn’t sound too bad:

    30 ml Ivoire edp 17 pounds;
    100 ml JM Velvet Rose at the duty free at $C50 savings;
15 ml Beige extrait at no savings

I’m late to the party, but hey, better late than never! I was going to proudly say I bought nothing. But then I remembered. I did buy a full bottle of ELdO Afternoon of a Faun. For a present. For a special someone. So it’s like, half a sin, right? If it’s not for your own indulgence?
(Although I totally bought it so I can steal a decant at some later date because it’s pretty nice – end of confession – running away hands over head)

    Not as many as last few quarters;
    Ostara 100ml, heavily discounted.
    Amarinthine, 50ml slightly used, £25
Heure Exquise 100ml, slightly used £30 (This one took so long to arrive, and had to send owner a AG box, but it was worth it!, thanks for enabling Hamaemelis!)
    Jour d’Hermes, used 50ml £30
Le Chasse une Pappillon 7ml travel spray, £9
I’m Still waiting for Chasse, can’t wait for it to arrive!- I’m really enjoying exploring the L’Artisans, such an exciting line, and often very cheap on eBay!
Love them all, except Amarinthine, which I need to spend more time with, hoping it will grow on me.

I was very good first quarter… But this quarter I bounced back!

Shalimar eau de shalimar, the one shalimar I really like! I need to use it more often.
Shalimar parfum initial l’eau, hm, the chalkiness plus no patch should be good, but it’s really strong for me. Unsure about this one
Alien Eau extraordinare. It was sold for peanuts at one swedish store. $12 for 30ml. Snapped it up! Juicy jasmine.
Yves rocher cuir vetiver… Not sure, vetiver isn’t really me.
Yves Rocher voile ambre. Like! But… the amber is so airy and light. I was expecting something much heavier
Coty emeraude, Like! The ice-cream note is really cool.

    Hanae Mori edp
50 ml Chanel Beige that makes every day I wear it happy
3 travel spray set of Memo Italian Leather that came with 1 travel spray of Irish leather (gift from my guy)

    I regret nothing.
