Friday scent of the day 7/1

Posted by Robin on 1 July 2016 228 Comments

Pantone rabbit

Rabbit, rabbit, rabbit! Welcome to July, and hope everyone is having a lovely Friday so far. And, happy Canada Day! Our community project for today: wear a fragrance by Olivia Giacobetti, if you have one.

What fragrance did you pick? As always, do chime in with your scent of the day even if you’re not participating in the community project.

I'm doing a little Olivia Giacobetti catch up. I wore Diptyque Philosykos to bed last night, and this morning I'm in L'Artisan Safran Troublant.

Reminder: on 7/8, wear a citrus cologne, classic or modern.

And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2016, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

I’m in Dipytique’s Philosykos. I think it’ll do better in the heat than Lubin’s Idole.

Enjoy the day everyone! Have a beautiful weekend!

Scent triplets! It’s the only OG scent I have. Viva la figue!!
Today my friend is coming over with her Canadian fiancé to have a BBQ, so we are celebrating Canada Day on his behalf. Frantically running around the house now to try and tidy up before they get here, but then can relax and be in full blown party mode!

I never realized how many fragrances I own that were OG’s. It was a tough choice, but Phylosykos is great in warm weather (or anytime).

Joining the crowd wearing Philosykos on a cool Figgy Friday, more like early May than the beginning of July. For once, good weather will be with us for the entire holiday weekend, and I’m looking forward to spending most of it outdoors, gardening, swimming, and, of course, outdoor concerts and fireworks celebrations. Wishing everyone a relaxing, and safe, weekend!

Found a decant of this scent and decided since this is the only scent from this perfumer that I have, I went with it. Can’t go wrong with a good fig fragrance.

maybe this is the broken arm perfume solution! i’ve been afraid to wear perfume lest i get it on my cast and it’s a scrubber, or a mix smells bad… i have been able to spray onto the same arm, but it ends up over saturated for me. the ankles though…

ST and Idole complement each other beautifully- maybe because they both have saffron? Jour de Fete and En Passant are long gone, sadly. En Passant indeed!

I did Safran Troublant yesterday, and I think it was too hot/muggy for it as well. It seems to go bug spray on me if it gets too hot, so will reserve it for cooler weather from now on.

Safran Troublant for me since it’s the only one on the list I own. While in NY, I made sure to get some sampling in– really liked Pistil Whip from Heretic Parfums, an all natural line carried at Barney’s. Not in my budget at the moment, but still…. Also to anyone in the NY area in the next few weeks, I can definitely recommend the Degas exhibit at MOMA which is about his experimentation with monotypes.

FRIDAY FRIDAY FRIDAY FRIDAY!! And my 2nd week of vacation begins this afternoon at 5:30pm! Woot woot!!! 🙂 Heading for a few days in Jacksonville Beach, to celebrate my father-in-law’s 80th birthday and get a little beach time.

Alas, I haven’t a single offering from Madame Giacobetti, which is a shame! She has so many goodies!

Since L’Artisan commissions her for quite a few creations, I’m wearing Timbuktu to support ’em. I’m smelling pretty fancy-pants, I have to say! 🙂

Enjoy your weekend, and to my fellow Americans, have a wonderful 4th of July! At 240 years old, the USA is just a baby, but in my (biased) opinion, the best place in the world! 🙂

I am so ‘head down’ at work at the moment, that as people on NST have been talking about the holiday weekend coming up I was thinking “What holiday could that be? I wonder what country has a holiday coming up at the end of June?”

Well, it turns out I have indeed heard of the 4th of July and I know which country celebrates it. :^)

      Have a good one!

I’m in Ormonde Jayne Vanille d’iris. I needed something calming today. I’m a snot ball mess today, still getting over the cold I got from the hubs, who is still a snotty mess himself a week later. It’s also his birthday and I’ve had his presents in the trunk of my car for a few days now. Leaving work early to get home and wrap them.

Hope everyone has a great holiday weekend (in the US and Canada)!

SOTD and my contribution to the community project is L’Artisan “Safran Troublant”. It reminds me of Indian or Pakistani desserts (just missing a little cardamom”. Sadly my skin treats it like an Indian dessert too, and gobbles it up without a trace.

Good morning from my home-heading Denver layover, I think I may have hit up the ll vetiver sample again before I left Minneapolis, but since I had to be at the airport at 4, it’s all kind of confusing. I’ll try to catch up with an OG sample when I eventually get home!

Yay, scent twins with Robin (and probably 100 other people) in Safran Troublant. As predicted, 8 sprays = 4 hours.. Next time I’ll try 10-12 sprays and see if I get double the longevity without doubling the dose.

I may go to the Atelier Cologne boutique later today and load up on Cedrat Enivrant.

What I’ve found helps is to spray myself several times, wait 15-20 minutes and then spray myself a few more times. For some reason it feels like it lasts longer.

I have never deliberately sprayed perfume on clothing / accessories because I’m afraid that it will degrade the fibers or, in some cases, cause the color(s) to run. Perhaps that’s an irrational fear… With this said, I can still smell some delicious traces of ST. I really should wear it more often!

I have a bottle somewhere and now must unearth it after all of the kudos for it today. It moved out of rotation for the warm weather ( another effort at organization). I’m not wearing anything destroyable, so may try some on my clothes.

A few weeks ago I tested Miyako while wearing a robe. I kept wondering what I smelled on several occasions all week and realized it was Miyako- it became earthy and was very tenacious!

ST is very light, but I find it lasts surprisingly long on my skin. Sometimes I’ll turn my head at about 8PM and get a creamy, cuddly hello from it. Or, at least, the suggestion of a hello. I’ve learned to appreciate how unobtrusive it is.

Hiris today (wonderful), after a nice night of sleep with Tilleul Pour La Nuit d’Orsay. The latter is an Eau de Soin (whatever that is) and has a gentle alcohol free texture which can be used on the whole body. Very soothing camomile and lime (linden) blossom.

Gosh it’s gorgeous. It gives me a realistic reminder of the giant fig tree overhanging the street on my way to classes, just before the figs became overripe and cloying. Mmm, I could go for some figs right now.

Robin, we’re reverse-twins! I wore Safran Troublant yesterday, and chose Philosykos for today. I wish Philosykos lasted a bit longer on me, but I intend to bring my bottle to work with me so that I can refresh throughout the day. Is this the sign of an addict?

I really need to sample Safran Troublant some day. It’s one of those scents that everyone seems to know and love and I don’t remember that I’ve ever smelled it.
The only OG perfumes I have with me are things I’m not in the mood for, but I had a sudden strong craving last night for Army of Lovers, which has stuck around all night and I’ve just topped off. It isn’t weather appropriate any more than Dzing! would have been but I’m enjoying it. I may switch to Idole de Lubin later, after I’ve sweated this one off. It’s gonna be a dead-calm scorcher and I need to go out on the concrete slab and climb beneath the trailer to re-run the wiring. Blech.

I had a great slumber party in the middle of the night with everyone who visits here. I couldn’t sleep- too hot, too cold-so I caught up on the posts I had missed this week. This morning I more vividly remember the discussion about the perfume blogs. And the support for people with life changing/ challenging issues was spot on. The wit and warmth of everyone was like a cuddly familiar smelling stuffed rabbit, and I finally fell back to sleep.
Woke up and sprayed En Passant to try to stimulate my senses.

Happy 4th of July. Safe travels.

Happy Canada Day to our northern folks and Happy 4th in advance to the US ones. Like others, I’m wearing En Passant today and it is just perfect.

I want to see what the ice looks like now and see some polar bears. Originally the trip was scheduled to go to Franz Josef Land, but the Russians are mad at the US over the Black Sea and won’t grant the ship permission to sail into Russian waters, so now it’s a circumnavigation of Svalbard. I was there in 2006 and it was fascinating. I love cold places.

Ditto on needing to try Safran Troublant..! I am weird about my vanillas, but I want to give it a whirl… Fragrantica lists Bertrand Duchaufour as the nose behind ST–anyone know the story? Saffron definitely makes repeat appearances in Duchaufour’s perfumes, but Fragrantica could just be incorrect!

I own an FB of En Passant, and a decant of Dzing! but today just wasn’t right for either… went with Hermes’ Concentre d’orange verte.

Yes, interesting – here’s what Kafkaesque blog says:
“As a side observation, Fragrantica is flat-out incorrect in its summation of the perfume. First, they have continuously listed Bertrand Duchaufour as the nose behind its creation, despite numerous comments correcting them. They also seem off on the notes, since they insist on listing “passion fruit flower” when no-one — least of all the company itself — has given any such indication or has smelled any passion fruit.”

I apologise to those who could not care less about my cooking attempts, but as some of you have been kind enough to show interest, here’s the final menu of my The Great Game dinner:

    Starters
Persian Spinach, turmeric and raisin dip (borani)
    Afghan eggplant dip with garlic
Middle Eastern Focaccia with mint and sumac
Uzbek samsas with spiced pumpkin filling

    Main course
Kashmiri leg of lamb with almond, coconut and rose
Baluchi-style roast chicken with sajji masala (as not everyone likes lamb)
    Persian Morasa polow (jewelled rice)
Caramelised fennel with butter, orange and brown sugar
    Cucumber-Watermelon-Mint salad
    Hibiskus raita

    Dessert
Marcolini rose, pistachio and peach macaroons (I had planned to make phirni and even made a trial batch with cardamom and rose, but was out of time and energy in the end)
    Assam tea

I’m tired but happy, as the dinner went well. As a consequence, I’m not wearing Giacobetti: I wore Mohur extrait yesterday to match the dinner theme and I wanted to wear it again today.

It’s not the most spectacular of my Middle Eastern cookbooks, but it’s very accessible and one I use very often. There’s also a lamb shoulder recipe in there that I love. Another one I’ve discovered recently is Under the Tamarind Tree, about Pakistani food – I find it fascinating. The leg of lamb was from there.

For Persian food, “accessible” is key for me. For Middle Eastern cooking, I’ve loved Yotam Ottolenghi’s Plenty, and Jerusalem (with Sami Tamimi), both of which you may already own–but if not, get thee to a bookshop. Super accessible and fun!

It really is a nice one. Do you know that she has a new book out, Sirocco? I prefer the first, but Sirocco is definitely worth a look, too. And I’m no pro, I’m a very enthusiastic amateur???? I’m good with the conceptual side, though, and years of cooking are now paying off as well – I feel more confident and rarely go totally wrong.

            Why no more dinner parties?

At some point work became so overwhelming that my husband started cooking and we rarely have the energy for dinner parties. When we see people, it’s almost always at restaurants. It really is too bad, as we both like cooking for other people, although much simpler than your feasts! Perhaps I’ll be inspired. (Although we can only really fit six, eight tops!)

There’s nothing overly technical among these things, really. OK, the Persian rice can be a challenge the first time, but that wasn’t new to me. Where you need some experience, though, is the planning and timing. When there are so many dishes, it a bit of a juggling act and you need to know how fast (or not) you are.

This is why the Star Trek transporter needs to be developed — not so I could rudely crash the dinner party, but so that a small portion of each dish could materialize in front of me — a generous fee would be paid.

Thé Pour Un Été from L’Artisan for me. I’m surprised not to see more people wearing this. I think it’s pretty perfect in the summer and may be my next FB.

I also own Tea for Two and Dzing! and have a decant of Costes 2 and some other samples like Andree Putman Preparation Parfumee. Olivia is probably the one nose I have the most of. Funny sentence, but you all know what I mean.

Thé Pour Un Été has no similarity to Tea for Two to my nose. It’s all light lemony jasminey summer tea. No smoke or spices. In fact, I find it more wearable than Tea for Two, but I love both of them. I have a bottle of TFT and have just ordered TPUT – I would be happy to send you samples of both if you are located in the U.S. You can click on my username above to find my email.

I think I’m the only one wearing I Love Les Carottes today?
My bunnies think it’s the finest thing they’ve ever smelled…. 🙂 I wish I had bought her Coconut one from the Honore’ des Pres line, and I liked Vamp, too. Now they are gone, and I only have 5ml left of the Carottes!

It was a choice between the Carottes and Hiris, Hiris won, I love them both.

I’m in Dzing! today. Several people suggested it’s worth wearing in the summer, and I don’t remember who you are – but thanks! (Today it is cool-for-summer-in-Oklahoma, anyway.) Also, I’m trying to get through enough of my bottle to justify purchasing a lady and the tiger bottle before those disappear.

My Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day did improve yesterday and I am thankful for all the well wishes.

Today I am wearing O de L`Orangerie compliments of the very generous Hajusuuri from the Freebiemeet. 🙂

It is a perfect summer scent of jasmine, orange blossom and a little wood for good measure.

Hey, I saw a rabbit on my walk this morning. Also a yellow warbler. Bonus good luck, perhaps.

Scent of the week was Hiris, and I could happily wear it for another week or month or longer.

    Something random for your Friday:

En Passant on the left hand the Dzing on the right. I’ve been alternating these two all week and of course I had to wear them both for the Friday project.
I really enjoy the Friday projects because they make me dig out parts of the collection I haven’t set eyes on for months! Rediscover the fascination with perfume, which I must say had dwindled somewhat.

Happy Friday! Late to this- Beginning of the fiscal year. Why doesn’t the Western World just start the year in spring or summer? That makes more sense. Or during harvest. I mean, wasn’t that how it was done before?

    1) Keeping it OG with Diptyque Philosykos. This is light, but rich, sweet and intriguing, and on a moderately warm summer day, perfect. This is from a sample I got last year.
    2) I have a long weekend- not back to work until next Wednesday- so will be picking at sales!

Sorry your team didn’t make it all the way in the CWS. But at least it was an exciting ride all the way til the end . . . I suspect they went further than either of our favorite MLB teams will this year, but you never know (crosses fingers and prays until the very end).

I’m only upset that the ump robbed them of a run they scored–which would have gotten the game into extra innings. Otherwise, I’d say having been picked to finish 9th in the PAC and yet getting to the CWS Final and ending up as what amounts to 2nd in the nation is quite a lot for them to be proud of!
As for our MLB teams: It’s a long season, and they’re only halfway now. You never know what could happen. As Yogi said, “It ain’t over till it’s over!” (Also, it helps to have back-up teams. ????)

I’m not working today and have been running around town doing all the things. Left the house scentless, but have returned smelling of Dior Grand Bal and Bois d’Argent. Came home with several more Dior samples. Yay! The SA was great. She actually knew something about the perfume she is selling. A rarity.

Reading about everyone’s Giacobetti day is giving me a case of paralysis. I don’t know which one to pick! They are all so beautiful! We are going to the theatre to see Phantom of the Opera tonight, so I want to be properly scented for the occasion. This is not going to be easy…

Happy Friday to everyone. We’re in Saturday already, and I celebrated the approaching weekend yesterday with a hefty application of Safran Troublant. It is gorgeous and I don’t know I took such a long time to get an FB late last year.

I’m now contemplating what I should waer this morning to make the housework more interesting – 24 Faubourg has done the trick in the past, and is calling out to me right now!

    Sadly, no Olivia Giacobetti here.

SOTD Fresh Cannabis Rose. It’s an overcast, cool Canada day here on the West Coast, so something warm seemed called for: roses to imitate a sunny July day and patchouli for warmth.
This really should be called Patchouli Rose, but then I grew up in the era when patchouli oil was used to cover the smell of weed, but ended up being a dead giveaway. The current name does honour the West Coast vibe. 😉

I left work a little early and decided to go to Brooklyn. At Atelier Cologne, I got my humongo bottle of Cedrat Enivrant, 2 bottles of the shower gel and 2 bars of soap and for my freebie, Sous le toit de Paris. For the first time ever, I got the purple leather case engraved. I didn’t know that Atelier Cologne was bought out by L’Oreal! I may have predicted this a few month’s back but of course can’t remember why I brought it up to begin with back then. Anyway, I’m a happy camper with my AC purchases because I found out that the discount was only supposed to be 15% but someone made a mistake on a subsequent email which indicated 20% off!

And when in Brooklyn…one must stop by Twisted Lily! I did my usual sniffing around and ended up with 2 sets of the 4x 3mL Nomenclature Discovery Set (they are perfumath free at $20 each – peeps, this 12 mLs of juice for $20!!!) and a bottle of Aroma M Vanille Hinoki plus a bunch of samples.

Re: L’Oreal. It looks like Lauder and L’Oreal are in a battle to be the “one that rules them all,” with Shiseido running in 3rd place.
Love how the head of L’Oreal’s “selective” divisions refers to “alternative” perfumery.

It sounds like a perfectly delightful day. So, L’oreal? What does that mean for Atelier? It’s almost like some of the best perfume houses are like tech start-ups. Do their best so they can be bought out by a conglomerate. Perhaps that is cynical. A visit to Twisted Lily might restore a sense of idealism. And the “free” Nomenclature sounds too good to pass up. Enjoy all the goodies!

Supposedly Sylvie and Christophe will continue their creative direction, with more $$$ for R&D. I have visions of Atelier Cologne, coming soon to a Macy’s near you but the SA was horrified when he heard me say that out loud and said no no probably a Nordstrom.

Nordstrom is a very good guess, since they just picked up Le Labo. But don’t count Macy’s out yet! They acquired bluemercury last year, so they may be looking to go more upscale/niche.
