Amouage Myths ~ new fragrances

Posted by Robin on 26 May 2016 31 Comments

Amouage Myths

Amouage has launched Myths, a new fragrance duo.

Myths Man ~ "Myths for Man is a surreal mirage of oriental elements intoxicated with enigmatic tones of smoke and wood creating a fusion of dream and ambivalence." Notes for the oriental fragrance include chrysanthemum, orris, rum, rose, vetiver, elemi, labdanum, ashes and leather.

Myths Woman ~ " Inspired by surrealism Myths for Woman paints its floral and green facets with an expression of dark nuances shaded with an ambivalent tone." Notes for the green floral fragrance include narcissus, violet leaves, galbanum, carnation, patchouli, ambergris accord, leather, moss and musk.

Amouage Myths Man and Myths Woman are available now at the Amouage website, in 50 and 100 ml Eau de Parfum ($265-330).

I’ve somehow managed to miss the last three or four (maybe five?) Amouage releases, but I am certainly going to have to test Myths Woman. Green floral? yes please.

Yes! I am swooning all over this description. I love a good oriental, and a good green floral! Let’s see how well they marry these two together.

I’m possibly more behind than you. I kind of lost interest, but should really try some of them.

Well, I *did* try Sunshine but did not love it. I do always remember that I wrote off Memoir Woman (“animalic chypre doesn’t sound like me, I’ll pass”) and then fell hard. Shrug. Who knows?

I’ve tried 2 total ever, mostly because I can’t afford them in any world. The woman’s does sound nice though. If I lived where there was an Amouage counter, I would definitely try it.

Ah, yes, the smell of ambivalence . . .

I know. Do you think they thought they were saying ambiguous? A little more appealing anyway.

Admit I totally skipped over the marketing jargon and looked at the list of notes… After seeing the comments I HAD to go back and see what I missed the first time. 🙂

Yeah I only looked because of ajellyfish and deva’s comments. I just can’t read these things.

I know. Who on earth wants to market a fragrance as being ambivalent? Thinking it is probably an error in translation, or the grammar checking got out of hand. 🙂

Now that I’ve looked up ambivalent, I suppose it is apt as anything else. I thought it meant not caring either way, but it likely means being pulled in simultaneous directions at the same time. You learn something new every day! 🙂

It works, as you say, but ambivalence is usually such an unpleasant feeling – or slants that way. Whereas ambiguity! That’s got all sorts of sexy and exciting possibilities. But maybe they want us to feel torn!

          • ajellyfish says:
            26 May 2016 at 2:50 pm

Yeah, I just can’t figure out what the two directions are! Especially for Myths Man. “Dream and ambivalence?” That doesn’t make any sense.

Myths Woman, however, has too many options, but none of them seem apt. Peggy Olson would weep.

There’s a lot of “ambivalence” going on with these two perfumes…

“A fusion of dream and ambivalence” perfectly captures my state of mind regarding several bottles on my to-buy list.

The notes *do* sound intriguing, and I’m pretending that all that purple is in honour of Prince.

The woman’s sounds really good. I think Beloved is the most recent Amouage that I enjoyed, but their input is mostly good, so will try.

Wait a minute, didn’t Amouage release one called Lilac a few months back? I don’t know if I will seek this one out, even to try. The women’s version sounds good though.
