Yves Saint Laurent Exquisite Musk ~ new perfume

Posted by Robin on 20 May 2016 12 Comments

Yves Saint Laurent Exquisite Musk

Yves Saint Laurent has launched Exquisite Musk, a new limited edition fragrance in the brand's Oriental Collection. The last in the series was 2015's Magnificent Blossom.

Between boldness & delicacy. The Collection Orientale becomes richer thanks to a new fragrance with rare scents, inspired by animal musk. This new fragrance called Exquisite Musk, recreates with sophistication the texture of ambergris with an oriental signature by blending musk and animal notes. Exquisite Musk is built with dark animal oud notes, warmed by the labdanum essence, and softened by rose and patchouli essences which turn it into a sensual and opulent fragrance.

Additional notes include ginger, cinnamon, nutmeg and benzoin.

Yves Saint Laurent Exquisite Musk is available in 80 ml Eau de Parfum.

This sounds delightful, but it’ll probably be way too pricey, right?

I would guess, because the others in this series are. This is yet another luxury collection I have skipped altogether.

Robin, what is your cut-off price for a really great perfume that you have tried and really like it?

The most I am willing to pay for is the Chanel price for 75 ml. Beyond that I find it hard to even think of trying them in the first place.

You know it’s kind of moot now since I put a moratorium on buying bottles over 30 ml, which I did because I just have too much perfume already more than as a reaction to price. But I think (hope nothing is escaping me) that the last time I bought a full sized Hermessence at $180, that was the most I’d spent on one bottle. And I think they’ve gone up since!

lol a moratorium! That makes sense. The Chanel ones over here are 175CHF or 176USD. My decants alone can make up a few bottles already!

Hermessences are at $250 right now. We’re getting into gadget territory now. 🙁

Wow, yeah. I think people keep telling me that and I keep refusing to store the information.

This was already in duty free. I tried it and found it anything but exquisite. Smelled of Aquanet, potpourri and a not-so-nice musk. And this from someone who appreciates a great musk.

LOL — just what I need, Aquanet + potpourri!

Off topic, but thought I’d mention that Penhaligon’s website has Ostara at deep discount. $32 for 100 ml. It will go fast at those prices….

There aren’t enough animalic musks around so this sounds delicious. Dull-looking bottle though. And I probably won’t encounter it anyways. Or be able to afford it.
