The Different Company Adjatay ~ new fragrance

Posted by Robin on 12 April 2016 22 Comments

The Different Company Adjatay

French niche line The Different Company has launched Adjatay, a new 'narcotic leather' fragrance.

A devilish sensuality, a forbidden (un)sweet you devour out of greed that glows in the shadows of a powerful Djinn, Adjatay, the prince of perfumed chills. I brought this tuberose flower back from Grasse and forgot her in an unpretentious black leather bag. She refused to give in and for days her stubborn warmth strived to bring the leathery silky animal notes of my worn out bag back to life. Alexandra grabbed the idea and turned the white beast into a wild yet elegant, tender yet loud perfume, hypnotic, untamable. A dangerous ritual engulfed in narcotic waves.

«Tanned, flexible, grain-embossed, full-grain, varnished… I have always loved working on leather notes for their carnal facets and the infinite possibilities they offer. For “ADJATAY, cuir narcotique” I wanted to work on a full, dark and textured leather, a leather that squeaks in your hands, a leather with a debauchery sillage. To obtain these particular effects, I associated dark and spicy notes with Styrax essence, Castoreum essence and Papyrus essential oil. On this leather structure, I dropped off a subversive Tuberose from which narcotic notes get away to engulf the atmosphere. The osmosis between Leather and Tuberose is perfect, neither one gets the upper hand, they are vibrating and matching each other creating a vigorous addiction.» Alexandra MONET

Additional notes include ylang ylang, jasmine, heliotrope, tonka bean, sandalwood and musk.

The Different Company Adjatay is available in refillable 100 ml Eau de Parfum, €155.

Leather! And I’m always game for a subversive tuberose. This is their most interesting (to me) release in a very long time.

Good to hear it, as this line generally has poor sillage and longevity on me.

Darn. I prefer more ethereal. Guessing this will not be for me.

And it’s by the same person who did Le 15 — which you might find good or bad, I guess!

Ahaha – yes, it does. But the fragrance sounds good to me if it’s not TOO loud.

If you are a “one percenter” (as the expression of the day goes), you might be interested in knowing that Roja has a fine tuberose and leather called Fetish.
The Difference Company always makes fine scents at less extravagant prices. I hope this one is good and far less pricey.

One knows one is deep in PerfumeWorld when 155 pounds is the economic version 😀

I hadn’t noticed the price. I guess I somehow thought of the Difference Company as towards the bottom end of the “luxury” price category line ((which is not meant to suggest that I don’t think of it as a high quality line)

I didn’t mean that in a critical way. Roja Dove perfumes ARE in a different bracket! And I think everyones idea of perfume prices goes through a sea-change after viewing the upper echelons 😀

I have to ask. Am I the only one who looked at ADJATAY and kept trying to find the pig Latin joke? My brain turned those letters around and round, to no avail. It may be an English language thing. I know a lovely woman named Adja, but this perfume name and copy made me smile at my own silliness.

My brain insisted that it must be the name of an Indian rapper who is trying to play on agitated/agité.

“A dangerous ritual is engulfed by narcotic waves.” TDC would appear to be setting an impossibly high bar for Le Prix Eau Faux! 😉

A dangerous ritual is engulfed by narcotic waves- sounds like an adult river baptism, just above Niagra falls.
