We saw all these little perfume bottles

Posted by Robin on 1 March 2016 9 Comments

I don’t think I had worn any fragrance at all for quite a while at that point. I’d occasionally swing back to Chanel No. 19, and then nothing. But then one day I was in Paris with Tonne [Goodman] after an Hermès appointment, and on our way out through the store we saw all these little perfume bottles. One was yellow, one was green, and one was pink. I took the pink one, and it was rose—a very clean, very pure rose. When I do wear perfume, I splash it all over—that’s why it can’t be too strong.

— Grace Coddington talks about discovering Hermès Rose Ikebana. Read more at Grace Coddington, The Fragrance! The Legendary Vogue Editor on Her New Perfume—And Her Favorite Scent Memories at Vogue, where you'll also find a picture of the cat (!) bottle for her upcoming perfume for Comme des Garçons.

So, we can look forward to a new CdG release in April! I would be a bit more excited if she didn’t say she loved sheer perfumes that barely smell, but the cat-shaped cap sounds intriguing.

Yes — not words to warm a perfumista’s heart! But we’ll see what she does.

    I love the bottle. And…rose!

Wish the bottle was opaque, but love the cat head.

How funny! I’m convinced the wife of my company’s owner wears Rose Ikebana.

I can’t wait to read this article. I love Grace Coddington.

I love her too. I’ve always felt that she never got enough credit in Anna Wintour’s shadow.

Sounds a bit too passive to me…you know: I hadn’t worn perfume for ages, I only really like rose…so, oh yeah, a rose perfume. Hope it’s not a wasted opportunity. Bit sad really.

You make a great point. Maybe we’ll get lucky and her sense of smell will have as much talent as her eye for design.

That would be great. I like her photo shoots for Vogue but am less keen on the coy cat cartoons…so I hope the perfume is imaginative and quirky.
