Serge Lutens L’Eau de Paille ~ new fragrance

Posted by Robin on 20 January 2016 6 Comments

Serge Lutens L'Eau de Paille

French niche house Serge Lutens will launch L'Eau de Paille in February. L'Eau de Paille (straw water) is the fourth fragrance in the Eau series that includes 2010's L’Eau Serge Lutens, 2012's L’Eau Froide and 2014's Laine de Verre.

I remember the stalks tangled in his hair, but I remember the colour as well: it was blond. His essence was that of a dry eau, for those who don’t like to get wet.

Notes reportedly include vetiver, incense and grains.

Serge Lutens L'Eau de Paille will be available in 50 and 100 ml Eau de Parfum.

      Early reports are not good.

L’Eau was the Lutens that made me feel as if he had sold out. There had been a few of his that I didn’t like (Louve, yuck), but all of his work seemed of a piece, with an overriding aesthetic and a sure artistic hand, and then he went and jumped on the bandwagon with a copycat fresh-ozonic scent. And I think his work has been very patchy since then: I haven’t loved anything since 2011’s Jeux de Peau., and I’ve disliked more of them than I’ve liked.

I thought very little of the first two, and I can’t even remember if I bothered to try the third, so this does not inspire much hope in me.

I know what you mean, except that I do love La Fille de Berlin, which I believe was released in 2013.

Whatever the reason, agree that the brand is not the same.

I would prefer my straw perfume to be super rich, freshly cut and baled hay and radiating heat…an intoxicating big hay-making perfume. Think Monet’s hay bales…not a tangle of straw caught in dry water.
