Am I the only fragrance lover who sometimes anthropomorphizes perfume? For instance, to me Caron Tabac Blond is a woman of a certain age who used to be edgy and still won’t suffer fools, but now spends a lot of time reading novels she pulls from her leather handbag; Frédéric Malle Carnal Flower is a radiant starlet almost too beautiful to behold — to the point where she can exhaust you after a few hours; and Guerlain Shalimar is one of the few who can pull off devoré velvet without looking like a Stevie Nicks wannabe.
Similarly Byredo Black Saffron and Seven Veils have distinct personalities. Black Saffron is an introvert who wants to be known as an androgynous intellectual but is too shy to attend any of the parties she’s invited to. Purely by accident (I’m a little tired) I am wearing Fendi Theorema and Parfum d’Empire Azemour Les Orangers layered. It’s not half bad!

Loni wants to find one or two new fragrances. The first would be her signature scent — something versatile enough to wear to the office or while playing outside with her daughter, but also interesting enough to see her through everything else. It should be close, pretty, natural and comfortable, like a second skin. The second scent would be something with more “oomph”, for date nights.
She can pay upwards of $150 for something she really loves, and she has great access to perfume shopping (and can shop online). Here is what we know about Loni:
She’s in her early 30s and lives in Los Angeles (no need for a seasonal perfume wardrobe).
She loves birding, hiking, making soup, eating ultra-smelly “banned-on-a-french-bus” cheese, museums and the arts, and travel.
She managed the fine fragrance department at Nordstrom just after college for a year or so…
