Cartier Les Heures Voyageuses Oud Radieux

Cartier has launched Oud Radieux, a new fragrance in their luxury Les Heures Voyageuses oud series (see also: Oud & Oud, Oud & Rose and Oud & Musc).

Oud Radieux was developed by perfumer Mathilde Laurent, and promises "unexpected freshness". The notes include ginger, Sichuan pepper and oud.

I love Laurent’s work, but pepper is always off-putting to me in a scent.

Sichuan pepper is a different animal, err, plant. It is spicy and floral, sort of like a combo of coriander, chrysnathmeum, and a weird menthol-y numbing sensation.

If that is the case, then the cooling sensation of the Sichaun pepper may account for the ‘freshness’

All the same- €334, my friends, €334.

Well, this collection is made of pure parfums and there a few at this size that cost less than this.

I have tried the three original ones and two of them were very interesting – of course, you have to enjoy oud to appreciate them.

I think Sichuan Pepper is not exactly so much of a different animal. The minty part is also similar to the one you find in Black Pepper Absolute. I can see how Mathilde might work this with ginger and oud. Ginger has a subtle animalic nuance that is more evident when you combine it with a earthy and woody material like an oud accord.
