Tuesday scent of the day 10/13

Posted by Robin on 13 October 2015 168 Comments

Balenciaga heritage spray square scarf

If you have a spare moment, do tell us what fragrance you're wearing today.

I'm all powdered up in Balenciaga Paris.

Reminder: this Friday, 16 October, we'll do Powder Puff Friday: wear something powdery!

And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2015, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

Note: top image shows the Balenciaga Heritage Spray square scarf, $595.

Haven’t decided on what fragrance to wear today. Right now I smell like the body oil huile-prodigieuse from Nuxe.
I am thinking of Noir de Noir or Plum Japonaise..someone can decide for me. Happy Tuesday

To go with huile-prodiegiuese (I love the hay and flower scent on it’s own!) I would suggest Noir de Noir.

The temperature has dropped over the last couple of days, i’m enjoying wearing Liberty scarfs, jumpers and knitted hat’s as well as my favourite Autumn scents. My SOTD is Silver Iris, Atelier Colognes, and yesterday my almost full bottle of L’Air de Rien arrived, a proper bargain at 20 quid, and one of my top 5 favourites.

Sighing heavily since I used up the last of my Epic Woman decant today. It was one of the larger ones I got from Amouage and I know I will be without it now for quite some time. It’s such a beautiful fragrance.

Randomly burning through a bowl of samples so I’m in Bond No. 9 Little Italy: mostly citrus and deeply uninteresting. I’d rather be wearing pure orange oil, which at least is honest about its cheapness.

I’m not nearly brave enough to wear a lot of skanky scents. I find it funny that people think Jubilation is on the mid-range of skanks because it is one that I cannot go near at all. Absolute 10 on me!

It is with great sadness that I report that one of my perfume heavens is no longer going to be selling perfume. JR Cigar sales outlets for anything but tobacco are nearly done. The first time I walked into the store in Burlington, NC, I thought I had died and gone to heaven. Three counters of everything you could think of from the ridiculous to the sublime and the best thing about this place was you could try before you purchased! My first Caron masculines were tried here and purchased for a really good price. I got the big bottle of Dior Hypnotic Poison for $60.00! All the Estée Lauder’s, Guerlains, Rochas plus everything mainstream. I purchased Tabu Talc yesterday for $5.00 plus many of their used testers are on sale for less the $10.00. I bought a nearly full Davidoff Zino for $7.00 and paid $40.00 for a new Aramis Tuscany, hard to find and nearly irresistible to me with my utter inability to resist 1980’s Fougeres. Everything is condensed and looks sad and like they are near the end, which they are. I hope some of you had a chance to go there, it was fabulous!

Finishing my packing for when I leave for Texas later today. I still have to figure out if my sole bottle of perfume will be Deneuve, Theorema or Chanel no 19. It’s going to be in the 90’s so the heaviest I can go right now is Theorema. I really hate this type of choice. So no SOTD right now.

I haven’t tried Poivre Piquant so can’t answer your question. There are good reviews of Si Lolita on both NST and Perfume Posse. I bought a mini on Ebay for a steal – whenever I wear this I wish I had a spray bottle for better application. A mini can hardly count as a bottle – so no worries about building instead of trimming your collection, right?

I am in totally the wrong scent today. I put on Thierry Mugler Dis Moi, Miroir, which was a mistake – too sweet. I wanted to try something I hadn’t worn before. Last night I decided on Mitsouko EDT, but changed my mind because I had already tried it (and it was love). I totally forgot that I had received a mini of Theorema last week. Oh well, tomorrow. It’s so funny that I spend a lot of the time before I fall asleep deciding on what scent to wear. By the time morning rolls around, I usually change my mind.

Cool mornings and warm afternoons. Today, it’s Lust in the stick format, with a tiny drop of Mille on the wrists. I find the combo perfect for day (even in the office). The stick format of Lust stays very close and envelopes you like a hug.

Yes! Someone recently told me the Lust I was wearing (likewise from the push-up solid one) struck him as a “soft floral” which was bewildering, because, it’s Lust! But I was thinking “soft” in “quiet”, whereas now I wonder if he was getting at “soft” as in “not hard.” As Hajusuuri was saying of No. 19 yesterday, sometimes straight florals really have a spine-straightening quality–whereas I agree, the Lust solid is a more hugging floral 🙂

Crazy busy weekend and early week. Have not gotten to play along…

24 Faubourg today for it’s perfection–I have to wear it to a professional meeting at one museum, and an opening reception at another. This is a workhorse scent for such a day. And while I initially liked Caleche better, now I think 24 is my preference.

No SOTD yet, my cappuccino doesn’t like competition.

Just back from my Rochester trip. Drive was tedious and 100 miles longer than online mapping predictions. Time estimates were based on 70 mph (lots of 55 mph and even some backwoods 45 mph.) And despite AAA help, lots of road construction. Predicted 11 hour trip was 14 hrs, even with minimal stops.

Only consolation – besides having had a great time – was leaf peeping. Northern Pennsylvania was breathtaking, lots of bright color. Even further south, seeing the ground covered in dried leaves made me so happy. I’m really curious to see my first fall in North Carolina – tree heaven (at least this part).

We have had a remarkably vibrant fall this year in PA. Tons of scarlets. It’s been very inspiring. Usually by now the leaves have already dropped and they are all still going. Sorry your trip was so long….

I’m wearing Iris Cendre and am still having trouble describing it. I’d say it’s an elegant, damp-smoky-green iris that gets more floral as it progresses. I don’t think it’s powdery, but I’ve seen people online who disagree. In any case, it would be best if you could smell it yourself, as it’s a great scent.

SOTD is Shiseido Zen (Classic). All these gorgeous fall leaves and smells made me hanker for some serious oakmossy goodness.

I am very excited though: I got my package of Diptyque Essences Incensees Jasmine solid compact today… Bad girl!! I had a $20 coupon at N so it seemed like a bargain, and it’s been so long since I got something new. I can’t wait to test it later!!! I can already smell it through the box.

Oh jealous!! Yes $40 seems like a great price for that solid–especially when the bottle’s $175 (ouch)! Can’t wait to hear how you like it!

I really don’t need 100 mls of $175 jasmine juice, no matter how good it may smell. It was a lucky bargain for the compact. I’m just wondering what they’ll release next year!?

…Ok so I dipped in early. It smells very rich, intense, lovely, super jasmine. A very much like TF Jasmine Rouge. Truly almost a dead ringer, but just a tad fresher. Must be the basil. Also reminds me very, very much of L’AP Haie Fleurie. If I was doing a blind test, I wouldn’t be able to tell any of them apart from each other. (IMHO Montale Jasmine Full is a brighter, “sunnier” jasmine, and I’ve always like that one too.) So I think the EI Jasmine is a good thing, very well done, although not revolutionary if compared to Jasmine Rouge, Haie Fleurie, etc. I’m not getting much jasmine indoles from this (I get more jasmine indoles from Songes.) I wonder if there may be any subtle differences between the solid and the juice? Anyway, I’m pretty happy about it – I only have very small decants of Haie Fleurie and Jasmine Rouge, so this works out. I was wanting a bottle of Jasmine Rouge, but didn’t b/c of the price tag. Cheers!

Ooh, well now I’d def have to keep my eyes pealed for a chance to try the solid, because the indoles in the spray were a drawback for me.

So glad you like it! And truly a win on the price–I’m pretty sure you don’t even get 100ml for $175, I think it’s only a 75ml bottle! (To say nothing of the price on Jasmine Rouge!)

I just thought “big bottle” = 100 mls. But you are right – I should have known better since I have the EI Mimosa bottle. I almost bought the perfumed lotion of Jasmine Rouge b/c it’s a better price, but I skipped that as well. Either way, the EI Jasmine is a better price than Jasmine Rouge if you want juice. I don’t think they make the second Haie Fleurie anymore? Update: it’s been a bit over an hour since I put on just a dab of the solid and it’s now just a skin scent. In that capacity it’s very wearable for day. I would hope the regular juice has more longevity. But I didn’t put that much on since I’m at work…..

It’s a happy discovery for me. After this past year I realize how much I’ve come to love oakmoss, and Zen has it in spades. I like that the formula with all the white flowers wears rather light. I wish that I could smell an older bottle. It’s fun to discover old treasures.

If you can smell it through the box, aren’t you somewhat concerned that there could be leakage in transit? As optimistic as I am, I equate it to this — when I’m driving to a venue with limited parking, I think that every car in fromt of me or passing me is going to the same place and taking the last parking spot.

It’s just the solid compact – once I took the plastic off the packaging, you could smell the jasmine! I don’t imagine they can make the solid compact air-tight since it doesn’t have an air-tight lid. It makes a gorgeous paper-weight, lol!!

They very kindly sprayed Carnal Flower in my hair, and I had Noir Epices on one wrist and L’Eau d’Hiver on the other. I loved all of them, but Noir Epices was the most intriguing.

Kanuka, your post makes me homesick for the heartlands! Tui…bellbirds…kowhai…I want to go home so badly I can taste it! In two weeks, straight after Labour Weekend, I am having a double cataract thingy done. I know I can go back to work pretty much straight away, but now I think I might take some sick leave –last time I looked I had nearly 200 days accrued–and go up to Northland, subside in a soggy sad little heap, and let the land and sea cure me of this year. Quiet nights and clean air; old friends and new cafes; buttery toast and manuka honey instead of proper food… does it sound good?

That sounds like the perfect plan – but leave your marking at home. You academic types tend to take annual/sick leave and spend half the time answering emails, marking scripts, reading theses so I prescribe total work detox, lots of honey, beach walks. Your only ‘to do’ list is to rest up, relax and have sweet perfume dreams. Did you buy the pink jacket? I’m curious. I have a thing about pink – on me it’s either too girly or, interestingly, too frumpy. But I like the cut of your jib…and the reference to the cuffs so I bet it looks great.
Good luck with your operation – take something lavender in with you.

I did so buy, and also (mea maxima culpa!) a really interesting silk shirt to go with it. The shirt is a mad print with all sorts of things happening: I adore it, and it toughens up the pinkness a bit. The dear one was eith me, and he eyed me askance at first, but then he suddenly got the whole idea of the jacket and enthusiastically bought me a scarf as well.

I’ve talked to my HoS and told him I’m taking sick leave: that’s all fine. Oddly, I got the impression he’s relieved. Maybe I’m spreading gloom at work, though I’m trying not to. So, home I go, for a little bit, and no reading of anything. Promise. Oh, and no beastly fish. Nothing to eat that started out with fins and gills. Lots and lots of laughing though.

I just made myself toast and honey (from the hives up on the hill) in your honour. Now I’m wishing I had a honey perfume. I’m procrastinating, really. I have to get a book finished and I’m 75000 words down and I’ve lost interest so I’ve spent an hour reading about perfume – mostly YSL as I’ve been wondering if I should give Champagne or Paris another go…why not both! I’m still in jeans and merino underwear – so you can be the style queen for both of us!

On an extremely rare occasion, I was with hubby at NM this weekend trying new things for him. When I smelled this cologne, I couldn’t help but share that the opening smelled like cat pee to me. Hubby was mortified (I said it in front of the two MFK associates) and told me to shush. Hahaha, I said “why? That’s what I smell”. Needless to say, he wasn’t happy with me 😉 I didn’t get the cat pee in the opening of the Absolue though. It’s lovely.

Hi, all. I’m a fearful muddle today and have only just showered and dressed. I need resolve and energy — marking again!– and I am finding some in my bottle of Narcisse Bleu. I find it beautifully fresh and crisp in the top, very green and even a little bitter, but it has a more interesting base than many cologne-style perfumes, which often, all of a sudden, disappear without trace.

Hey, I’m later today than usual, and I know that many of you are already in late afternoon and early evening, but do enjoy what you do for the rest of your day. I’m going to try, but the first assignment I marked was such a clear fail, I would have given it a Z- if I could! Grump!

Always felt very personal to me, which I think students don’t understand. I want you to succeed!! (But to me that means, acquiring the knowledge/skills, whereas so many students seem to want to skip that part and go straight to being awarded the grade they want. Hahaha I haven’t done this in some years now, but the grump comes right back!!)

In fact, I wore it to bed the other night, but I was too heavy-handed and when Dakkie and Izzy presented themselves for their last cuddle-and-purr session, they started sneezing, both singly and in unison. They looked quite reproachful. I might save it for outdoors from now on.

Kind of late and zipping over to the tube in a second to watch the Democratic debate.
Just got my samples of Diptyque Oud Palau and JM Mimosa Cardamom. I have to say that I love the dry down of OP. And the Mimosa Cardamom kind of reminds me of TDC Poivre Rose? I think my smeller might off today… Anyway it’s very pretty but I am having trouble with what it actually smells like.
In any case I did a perfume smelling sweep of downtown Boston yesterday. Barneys doesn’t have Nan Ban yet, but I did smell some very lovely Byredo perfumes. I fell in love with Black Saffron and it is going on my buy or trade for list for sure. Also, and this is kind of embarrassing, I had never smelled Hiris. Well it’s just the most beautiful perfume and goes on the list as well.

How much oud is in the OP? I am very curious about this b/c of all the other notes *besides* the oud. I can handle minute amounts of oud, but only if they kind of go away after a bit. I appreciate your thoughts!

First time commenter, long time lurker!

Today I’m wearing Taylor of London Panache. Which, now that I think of it, I should have reserved for Friday since it’s probably the most powdery fragance I own.
