Diptyque Essences Insensees 2015 ~ new fragrance

Posted by Robin on 21 August 2015 13 Comments

Diptyque Essences Insensées 2015

Diptyque will launch Essences Insensées 2015, the second in their La Collection 34 series of limited edition fragrances (see Essences Insensées 2014).

A sensual eau de parfum crafted with a heart of late harvest jasmine, crisp orange blossom, and herbal basil.

Like last year's version, Essences Insensées 2015 was developed by perfumer Fabrice Pellegrin.

Diptyque Essences Insensées 2015 is available now for pre-order at Barneys, 75 ml Eau de Parfum for $175. There will also be a 3.6 g Solid Perfume. Both debut in September.

(quote via barneys, additional information via blog.fashionguide.com.tw)

Update: the description at Beautyhabit.... "A special quality of jasmine from Grasse, harvested right at the end of the season, is the inspiration for the new opus of this limited edition. Overdose where the word sensory truly comes into its own."

This sounds appealing – anything OB interests me. I like the retro packaging. The price seems a little aspirational for me, but I realize there are many things that are much higher…

I think this one is “about” the jasmine, but waiting for a better description in English.

I’d love to test this. These bottles they use are gorgeous!!! I have the Essences Insensees (Mimosa) from last year and it is really lovely. You can smell they are using really good quality materials. The description of this jasmine one makes me think of the special edition Givenchy fragrances from a few years ago. I had the “2007 Harvest Jasmine” and it was really lush and sensual. I wonder how that basil note will work in this one.

Remind me (if I ever knew) — do you have a choice w/ the bulb atomizer? (that is, can you NOT use it?)

Robin, the bulb atomizer for the 2014 mimosa EI has a little twist function to close it off to prevent evaporation. But, you have to use the atomizer; it’s not optional (every time I say “it’s not optional,” it reminds me of the awesome movie “Ghost World,” but I digress …). That sucks for those of us who want to decant it into smaller bottles so that we can have it with us at all times — work, travel, etc. 🙂

Thanks so much! At least it has that twist function, better than nothing. But I would do nearly anything to avoid a bulb atomizer.

I keep changing my mind about the Givenchy. Some of the time I think it’s a bit generic – and then other times I really pick up this lovely full jasmine 🙂

I’ll be curious to try this as I really love Diptyque. I found the 2014 mimosa a bit too light and ethereal though.

As mentioned, the price strikes me as high compared to Diptyque’s generally reasonable prices, but … limited edition and the prevailing price trends mean that seeing this price doesn’t shock me.

They seem to be treating these almost like “harvest” fragrances, so perhaps that’s their justification. But of course I’d rather have cheap!

Actually, I’m more annoyed right now as looking at the first one on Diptyque’s website, it was $175 for 100ml and the 2015 version is 75ml.

Nice trick… keep price same, reduce quantity. And the thumbnail photo above definitely reads 75ml.

The 2014 mimosa Essences Insensées is perfect, IMO. I do wish that it lasted longer, but it’s so wonderful that I plan to buy at least one back-up bottle that I will keep in the fridge.

Jasmine either bores me or offends me, so I am not in a hurry to try this one. On the other hand, orange blossom with basil sounds interesting, so if LuckyScent slips a free sample into a future order, I will try it.

By “lasted longer,” I mean that I wish that it lasted more than 3 or 4 hours on my skin. My bottle is still “fresh.”

I sprang for a full bottle yesterday, after testing it for a couple of weeks. I surprised myself, but I’m thrilled. Florals are not my faves, or sweet anything. I like jasmine but I’m not hungry for it. I enjoy Diptyque, but wear only one regularly (Eau Duelle). Linear development typically bores me.

Essences Insensees 2015 is floral, sweet, linear, utterly jasmine and completely gorgeous. It is simple but not juvenile. It is rich but not heavy. It smells timeless but modern. It feels fully alive but still something you’ve not quite smelled before. And it manages this magic with real effortlessness.

Perhaps it’s because Los Angeles remains in the bone dry triple digits, but Essences Insensees 2015 is a lifesaver right now, and I’m grateful to have it. A little shout out to the Diptyque shop on Larchmont in the Hancock Park neighborhood of LA: beautiful SA, and very generous. I walked out with my bottle of jasmin, plus two (!) free (!) medium-sized candles of my choice (oud and ambre).
