Wednesday scent of the day 6/3

Posted by Robin on 3 June 2015 124 Comments

Miller Harris brand graphic

Happy Egg Day! And Happy Cheese Day Eve. It's also National Candy Month, so do plan your meals accordingly. And do tell us what fragrance you're wearing today?

I'm wearing Miller Harris Jasmin Vert.

Reminder: this Friday, 5 June, we're doing British niche....wear something from Ormonde Jayne, Penhaligon's, Miller Harris, Floris, or any other British niche brand.

And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2015, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

I have forgotten how wonderful Feminite du Bois is and just might wear it again today. But vintage Jicky is calling my name.

Feminite du Bois is one of my happy scents: it’s gorgeous, but also comforting and so easy to wear (at least for me). And while I haven’t tried vintage Jicky, I wore the current extrait version once and it still haunts me.

Same for me in regards to Feminite du Bois. My first niche scent, and one of my happiest and the most “me.”

I got some last month. It’s just about the only oceanic scent I can stand, because it doesn’t seem like a copy of all those done-to-death men’s scents.

Serge Noire. Cinnamon incense, wood smoke, a bit of leather. I hated it the first time I tried it but now (I think it was reformulated) I love it so much.

It’s VERY odd. It thinks it’s about six different Lutenses all at the same time: Rousse, Feminité du Bois, Un Bois Sepia…. I sure do like it, though. Just not too often.

Candy month?! Wow- that may begin a free for all 😉

Today I needed something beguilingly beautiful, so I went with Tauer’s PHI.

Recent comments have brought it to my attention that it’s been too long since I wore this. Just a gorgeous, soothing, calming, and centering scent.

Thanks to Andy for enriching my life by creating this fragrance 🙂

I can just imagine! One full spritz of PHI takes me through a good 12-18 hours. I haven’t been able to sniff Zeta yet. What’s your take on it? Good, bad, indifferent?

I liked Zeta, but I want to try it again not neck and neck with PHI. PHI was a spice rose roller-coaster that went in and out of tunnels. . . Zeta was contemplating life sitting in a sun-drenched copse of Linden trees drinking lemon tea… Needless to say all the shouting and the clanging from the roller coaster drowned out Zeta for most of it.

I really like ZETA. Your description is spot on (except I’ve never smelled linden blossom ). It is a quiet scent with such a calming honey drydown. He’s not making it anymore so may be hard to find.

When I was new to perfume and my wife was even newer to it, I handed her a vial of Bandit. She managed to get the top off, something we both struggled with in those days. Then she turned it sideways to read the label.

We lay on our wooden floor, soaking up the Bandit.

Now I spray from our bottle.

I LOVE Golden Cattleya. It is pure sunlight and joy when first applied … bursting with joy, really. It settles down to something that is a tiny bit dusty (my mother-in-law called it dusty) and quite wonderful.

I wore it to visit my in-laws a few times, and every time she hugged me, my mother-in-law would tell how great I smelled. I bought her a bottle, and the last time we visited, she was wearing it and when I used the bathroom, there was the bottle, with a noticeably lower level 🙂

What a sweet story! I wish I had family (or friends for that matter) who appreciated scent and would like it as a gift. It would make me happy to share it with them. And you checked the fluid level you super sleuth 😉
I’m really into honey scents and notes lately. It is warm, earthy, cheerful, and grounding. Honey and beeswax are my favorite kind of sweet in perfume. Similar in feel to tobacco. Dusty is a good description. Like the pollen dust is included.

          Pollen — yes, that’s it.

Well, the bottle was out in the open 🙂 I would never open a cabinet.

I really like the beeswax note in Fox by Sweet Anthem. There is a tiny bit of beeswax in Diptyque’s excellent mimosa perfume, Essences Insensées (EI) 2014. I think I’ll wear EI to bed.

After yesterday’s adventure with Musc Tonkin (which, admittedly, had some moments I liked very much), I needed something that put me at ease and that I could safely wear multiple sprays of.

Continuing with the unnamed rose-peony oil from Urban Outfitters. I think I saw a few of you discussing how you like the scent of real peonies but hate the overly sweetened note in many perfumes. I am not an expert and can’t recall what real peonies smell like, but I will say that this is nice and fresh and not at all sweet, so maybe it’s something you’d like? Many of you probably all have an Urban Outfitters at a mall or something nearby, so I would recommend giving it a sniff and seeing if it suits.

    Hope you’re all well!

Speaking of generous NSTers, I was a little grouchy that I had not a single British niche fragrance for Friday, until I remember the mini of Artemisia sent to me by another NSTer. Whoohooo… I am basking, or fuming, or exuding…. in the generosity of my fellow perfumistas. Love you guys!

Purple iris are blooming everywhere in my neighborhood and add a stately elegance to my otherwise informal cottage garden. Likewise, they add some much-needed architecture to the pitcher of ruffly peonies on my table.

And they inspired my SOTD, Chanel Misia, which is evolving nicely as a cool morning brightens to a warm, sunny afternoon. The violet has met the iris and the orris root has now lent its powdery accord: I get no rose from this scent. ar all. I like it better than Lipstick Rose but Guerlain Meteorites is definitely my favorite makeup scent.

Iris and peonies are lovely together.

I am also wearing Misia today. I have been wearing it a lot since I bought it. I really love it. I sprayed it generously on myself this morning and I can still smell it now , which is 8 hours later.

SOTD is Dior J’adore L’absolu. I smell pretty. Now if only a spritz of this stuff would make me look like Charlize Theron… lol

In the J’Adore ads, I think Charlize is wearing Eau de Photoshop. 🙂

This morning was grey, foggy, damp, and I felt very chilled out so I put on Lalique Encre Noire. But then I needed to bring things up a bit and layered some Lancome Mille et Une Fleurs. The vetiver and rose are nice compliments.

Inspired by Dawn this morning, I’m wearing Feminite du Bois. It’s all cinnamon on me right now and I’m loving it. Thanks to Pixel for the sample!

In Kenzo Flower Oriental. Pretty but not standing up to the day – maybe I should have gone with Chinatown…

P.S. Yay for both Egg and Cheese Day. I stopped listening to the pronunciamentos (sp.) of nutritionists during their “too many eggs are bad” phase.

Oh yes. The “evil” egg (cholesterol dontcha know) is now being touted for its choline content which helps decrease fatty liver. Sigh.

    Tried Ostara yesterday.
My husband loved it, but I smelled a powdery note.
I just don’t like powder in my fragrances.
    Last for quite awhile…..
Oh, well, there are other scents on the horizon!!

Sampling JM Lime Basil & Mandarin today. Emjoyed the first blast of citrus, but now there is a generic kind of “men’s cologne” smell that is really grating on me. Off to the swap pile!

This one does the same on me. Smells great on some people, but I don’t think it’s good on all skin types.

    SOTD = VC&A Orchidee Vanille

I can pretty much wear this all year except during hot & humid days. I got a compliment today!

I loved that one when I tried it, years ago. A very delicate vanilla.

I had no idea it was egg day.

Now I have the old egg commercial in my head: “I love eggs/From my head down to my legs”. That’s all I remember, actually

    SOTD is Pacifica Mediterranean Fig.

I’m sampling Maai today. I think I really need to spray this to get the full effect. I was expecting much bigger frankly, but the later stages are gorgeous.

CdG Avignon, which was great this morning (but had faded by late afternoon)! I also tested Incense & Cedrat later and like it very much too. How many incenses are just TOO much incense? 😮

SOTD was (current version) Chant d’Arômes EdT. I can’t remember what this was like long ago, so the lack of oak moss in the current version doesn’t bother me too much.
