Monday scent of the day 6/1

Posted by Robin on 1 June 2015 116 Comments

rabbit rabbit

Rabbit rabbit! What fragrance are you wearing today?

I'm wearing Parfums de Nicolaï L’Eau Corail (review + giveaway coming up later this week).

Reminder: this Friday, 5 June, we're doing British niche....wear something from Ormonde Jayne, Penhaligon's, Miller Harris, Floris, or any other British niche brand.

And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2015, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

I’m wearing 5! sprays of Paris EDP and the body cream. I’m doing my humble best to cheer people up 🙂

Looking forward to that review, I haven’t tried it yet. The Dutch etailer that carries the line hasn’t got it, so I may have to blind order a small bottle.

Paris is my ultimate comfort fragrance. Every time I wear it, I’m just surprised about how much I still love it today, after wearing it for so long.
Mind you I didn’t have to go to work today, else I wouldn’t have been quite as diligent.

Darn. I wish I had known about the rabbit thing earlier. I need some luck. Today is the day they start my kitchen remodel which is why I’m home and able to post. They were here at 7am and things are underway. My house looks like an episode of hoarders with boxes everywhere. The plastic sheeting is going up to contain the dust. I’m just waiting for the first major glitch.
I’m wearing Heeley Cardinal because it’s cold and rainy and I needed something soothing with incense.
On the bright side the contractors don’t seem like creepy guys who can’t be left alone. I always worry about strange people in the house because I know people who have had things stolen when they had work done.
I’m really hoping this turns out the way I picture it will in my mind.

I am terrible when there are people working in my house. I hover and fuss even if I know they can be left alone. I know it drives people crazy and is very distracting. It is just so hard to maintain normal behavior!
Good luck with your remodel and, as my husband points out every time, most people are fairly honest and if they aren’t they will figure out a way to steal from you when you’re watching anyway.

      Cardinal’s so wonderful!

When we got our kitchen and floors done, I was generally trusting (and everything turned out great), but for my own peace of mind, I hid a few particularly important items. Joke was on me: I can’t remember where I hid some of it.

Looking forward to that review! I’m wearing SSS Jour Ensoleillé today. I should like it more than I do, maybe it’s too ylang heavy for me. I keep trying it though so it’s got something I like! I should layer it with something just don’t know what.

I like to layer Jour Ensoleille with SL A la Nuit to bring out the jasmine.

Have to ask you all about A la Nuit. Sampled for the first time recently, and it’s not a “bomb” to me at all. Do you think it’s been tamed in recent years?

That I don’t know. I’ve only had my bottle for about 2 or 3 years (though I bought it discounted so it may have been older), and it smells pretty strong to me. Was it a dab sample? Maybe it is more powerful sprayed.

            nope, it’s a manufacturer’s spray sample–perhaps I’m getting inured to jasmine!

        • foxbins says:
          1 June 2015 at 12:01 pm

I don’t think it’s a bomb, either. It’s jasmine to be sure, but on me both Sarrasins and Montale Jasmin Full are much more bomb-like than A La Nuit.

I’ve never tried the extrait, but I can imagine it’s stunning! Vintage Fleurs de Rocaille is one of my all-time favorites. It’s the perfume I chose when my mom took me to the perfume counter to choose my own scent, decades ago.

Which concentration did you choose?, I am curious now about other concentrations, the extrait is perfect but not too easy to find these days. I am starting to discover vintages now and enjoying it a lot, it is like time travel for me.

It literally was decades ago, Hera – probably 47 years, so I don’t recall which concentration it was. Most of my stuff is in storage, but looking at the bottles on evilbay I believe it was the EDT. I also have the parfum, but have never seen the extrait. Searching for Fleurs de Rocaille years after that first bottle led me down the rabbit hole of vintage.

We are doing more flood trash cleanup here today in the heat and humidity. It doesn’t look like much at a glance but there are a lot of limbs and trees that have to be hauled out and neither chainsaw was cooperating yesterday. One was sporadically spewing gas from who-knows-where and the other just won’t run. I’m wearing Hard Leather today for its tenacity and backbone – hoping it makes me feel tough enough to toss logs into the truck bed all day. Still, I don’t miss Mondays at an office job (although, I do need to get back to work eventually).

I was going to wear Bois des Iles (aka Box of Eels!), but just as I was getting ready, I received a package from a very dear fairy so I’m sampling much awaited Tauer Une Rose Chypree. I’m a bit surprised by it at the moment: I can’t smell the rose yet. I think my skin really amplifies the “Tauerade” accord (not sure which notes compose it) present in a lot of his fragrances.

I’ve been iris-tastic for the past 15 hours…I sampled Misia last night (thank you, kind NST-er, for the sample). It started with beautiful violets, then almost immediately turned into an extremely powdery iris and stayed that way. Hmmmm, not my thing.

But I was inspired to wear a palatable iris this morning, so Prada Infusion d’Iris it is! A much fresher and less powdery experience. I am very happy in it.

Sorry Holly, did not try to be oblique! Indeed Life of Brian, and Murphy is from Murphy’s law (anything that can go wrong will, it will take more time than you think, and more effort etc. and Murphy was an optimist). On bad days when everything that can go wrong will, etc. I think that Murphy is around, sort of floating over our roof this time…

            1 June 2015 at 7:05 pm

Ah! Thank you. I understood the Life of Brian reference but didn’t connect Murphy hovering to Murphy’s law. Being obtuse and curious, I proceeded to watch some good old MP and John Cleese clips. I discovered “eels in my hovercraft” and Eddie Murphy hovering in a John Cleese film that bombed at the box office. An enlightening day! 🙂

I’m getting more spice from it today, and it’s more “veil-y” than expected – there’s a nice aura (not really a cloud) of it around me, but I can’t find it on my arm.

Bright and sunny here… and humid, too (the AC in the house is set to 76F and it feels GREAT). Wearing Hanae Mori Haute Couture, a green jasmine with a touch of fruit and aldehydes that does not really feel like your averag sweet frooty floral. It’s very cheerful and alert.

Am currently tweaking the WordPress theme for my new writing blog. I’m not abandoning The Muse in Wooden Shoes, but my blogging there has fallen off a great deal as my fiction writing has picked up, and I’m going to be investing more of my efforts into the new site, with an eye toward eventual publication. Now, if I can only find a theme that displays properly on both my laptop and my cellphone…

I am wearing some of DSH’s Scent of Hope, but the peach just wasn’t doing it for me, so I put some Caron’s Parfum Sacre on top of that this morning! (I am going through that vintage sample at a terrifying rate – what will I do when it is all gone?) I am floating the iris wave today.
We had rain all weekend, and being cooped up in my house made me realize it is Time to Fix a Few Things. Like (the kitchen) and the (not-yet existent third bedroom) and the (spa-like master bath that will accompany the manifestation of that third bedroom…)! I am very excited to get started.
Adorable hubby had acknowleged it would be a good idea, but I think he is still planning on next decade sometime…gonna have to have a conversation about that!

Commando so far this morning, on my way to a swim. I’ve been trying to find something to wear after that doesn’t turn skunky from the pool chemicals that inevitably cling 🙁

I struggle with this too. I would love to hear suggestions for this problem. (Excluding this one: “swim in a wonderful salt water pool instead.” Oh I would I’d love to, but it’s not possible at the moment.)

There’s anti-chlorine soap, and that works a little better than regular soap on the smell, although it’s not my favorite for the skin.

      Any other ideas???

Oh, I love Eau Premiere! I wore some No 5 bath oil on Saturday after a very long hot shower. No 5 is my ultimate pick me up frag.

I like the cheeky rabbit. My brother, who has a gazillion nicknames was Rabbit to my grandpa. (He also was called Ribbet)

SOTD is Un Jardin sur le Nil, which is great for the muggy (and yes, muddy) Texas heat. I’m delighted the sun is shining! Yea!

    Monday morning joys:

Tweet, tweet, tweet, tweet – boy? girl? boy? girl? – from the chickadees’ nesting box as mom and dad fly in and out all day bringing food. Fledging should be soon . . .wish I had a webcam in there!

My pink peonies are bursting into bloom! My plants are ancient, probably even older than me. 🙂 They were one of the few remnants still alive of a once-lovely garden when I moved here many years ago. We moved them from the side of the house to either side of the base of the antique paver path that leads to our front door, so if you visit me they will scent your way.

SOTD on Keep-It-Simple Monday is YR’s d/c Pur Desir de Pivoine, a pure pink peony soliliflore, powdery-soft and spicey-floral, just like the ones in the vase scenting my breakfast room.

On Friday, we stood in one spot for over an hour, waiting to hear Black Rails call (We heard them!). While we waited, we watched a pair of Marsh Wrens make zillions of sorties from the cattails to the weeds in front of us to collect food — those chicks gotta eat!

I love peonies. Sometimes I feel like I could stare into the depths of one forever. They don’t grow well in my area, though 🙁

And there is none so busy a bird as the wren! We had house wrens nesting here for a few years and the male sang all day, literally, from dawn to dusk, the cheeriest song I’ve ever heard, as he worked tirelessly to feed his family. His joyful song never faltered and I miss it so much, as they haven’t stayed here for a few years now, don’t know why.

Today it is Midnight Oud by Juliette Has A Gun. Not great for work, but it was really just one or two sprays from a small sample sprayer…so small amounts counter the strong projection.

Feeling tired and cold after a long day at work on a cold, damp, rainy UK afternoon. More oud to calm the soul when I get home. Looking forward to a warmer end of week (my weather app has promised!!)

It’s really cloudy here in Cleveland and didn’t mean to wake up first at 8 then fall back asleep the wake up at 11. So right now, I’m going commando but trying to figure out what to wear to the vet’s office. I’m thinking Shalimar Ode a la Vanille.

SOTD For the past few days has been Mugler Fougere Furieuse. I got a sample of this and Chyprissime at the Chicago Nordstrom on Friday. I wish I had gotten samples of the other three. I like both but they both cause me to think”I’ve smelled this! What is it!?” Both are more masculine but of the two, FF is growing on me. My very first image when I smelled it was of a graveyard, which sounds terrible! There is a dirt component that is actually really great. My husband and I are both struggling to think of what this reminds us of. I need to track down his bottle of ELdOFat Electrician because I think maybe that is the one?

We are headed to Paris this week and I have been asked to bring back a French gardenia scent costing no more than $100. Any suggestions???

don’t know whether they have a gardenia-specific scent, but Fragonard is reasonable, and there are lots of choices.

Cool gray foggy day here, so far. For Mini Monday, I’m wearing vintage Inoui parfum. Makes me feel like I’m in a cabin in the deep woods, not sitting in a cube in Silicon Valley…..

Stormy and slightly muggy here in the inland NW (as muggy as it ever really gets here) but I’m in Iris Nobile to brighten things up. Feeling cool and classy now!

Rooting through the sample drawer in a hurry this morning, and out came Aerin’s Iris Meadow. Pleasant enough, especially for a day at home with a sick kid, plowing through stacks of paperwork that have piled up. But not enough iris to tempt me.

Love today’s picture! I think I may have heard of that rabbit thing before, but certainly never have done it!

Nice warm day here and I need some waking up, so Thymes Agave Nectar (very citrusy) is the SOTD. Love the matching hand cream as well.

Sortilege, vintage from Le Galion. Itty bitty mini, no idea what concentration. Would be so perfect in the fall, is almost perfect in this wannabe fall chilly rain.

I’m wearing orange blossom (Eau Amiable by Le Couvent des Minimes) and vanilla (an oil from the health food store). I don’t like Eau des Missions (LCDM’s vanilla) because it smells of fermentation and tobacco.

I enjoyed reading everyone’s comments today! The scents are inspiring, and I loved hearing that other people say “rabbit” too. I wish Neil Gaiman would write a story about someone who forgot to say “rabbit.” Or maybe about someone who said it and didn’t get the luck they were looking for. :O

I thought I was scentless today, but I’m still enjoying the remnants of Eau des Merveilles, Red Roses, and Orange Sanguine I layered yesterday.

The EdM came first. I absent-mindedly added Red Roses, a combination which I would usually like, but it smelled edgy. Orange Sanguine made everything nice again. Sunday wasn’t boring for my nose. Thank goodness for fragrance samples.
