SOTD is Encre Noir. I’m in a mood today, and don’t give a fig about any of it … This is the perfect scent for my mood 😐

Re-trying some samples i loved when I first tried them to see if I still do.
– Rosae Mundi by Profumum. Candied roses. This is nice stuff, and unlike other sweet roses I’ve tried. But so expensive dammit.
– opardu by Puredistance. First time is was delicious lilac, but this time I get a clean soapy smell I didnt before. Maybe a bit too clean-cut and pure to suit me 😉 Which is good, because it also costs too much.
No tea tonight, Cointreau instead. Because I’m on holidays and I can drink on a school night. Yay 🙂
I haven’t tried Opardu for a while either, but I used to find it gorgeous. Maybe I better check…
Rosae Mundi sounds nice, but I admit I haven’t tried some perfumista favorite lines because I don’t want to fall in love with something expensive! And enjoy your Cointreau, wish I could join you 😉
We were almost scent twins today but I defected at the last minute to wear M. I wish I got something generic and soapy from Opardu but I keep finding it breathtaking 🙁 it IS a bit above my budget right now. I am happy to report that WHITE is simply awful on me so that is one Puredistance That won’t be haunting me.
Also, you reminded me that I need to visit the liquor store. We are out of Cuantreau, gin, vodka and Barenjager which means my husband won’t find anything he likes to drink except the good wine for special occasions. I wouldn’t have remembered to put the liquors on the list without you. You may have just saved a marriage 😉

I’ve been actively avoiding Puredistance, just in case I happen to fall in love, and Opardu is the only one I’ve tried. It might be one of those types where the season makes all the difference, so I will have to try again to give it a fair chance to prove itself.
Not the good stuff! Men just dont get that do they?! 😉 Glad to be of assistance. I personally love going to big bottle shops with a huge range of liqueuers and spirits. I always end up with unexpected purchases, even though I dont drink much. I have a well-stocked cocktail bar 🙂

I’m drinking a melange of flavoured green teas from the Palais des Thes and some other shops, it’s come out quite nice.
They are both wonderful.
They are, Gold is still my favourite of the whole line, but one of these 2 is a close second.
Ha, I mix some of the Palais des Thes too, but mostly I mix them with a plain bancha to cut the sweetness. I do like the Hammam one though.
I used to like that one, but I have gone off it. I’m now drinking a mix of Hammam, Green vanilla, Green tea with blood orange and green tea with mint. Surprisingly it works.
I still love Hammam, but I did get tired of it at some point, as I was drinking it so often. I stopped for a few months and now I can appreciate it again.
I rotate my teas by season to keep the love alive.
I don’t even drink it that often, and I love to smell it in the tin, but as a beverage something about it is off for me.
Austenfan, I think the smell is better too. Many of these flavored green teas that I used to like are just too sweet & fruity for me now.
I vote for beloved! 😉 Ubar is too “tight” to my nose, never quite opens up or relaxes through the development. So big. I think Beloved is more wearable, but if you are going for the moon, then I suppose Ubar wins!

I’m in Vent Vert today – so perfect for this bright cool spring day. And I didn’t have a chance to comment yesterday, but I wore TF Fleur de Chine (I believe this one does have a tea note).

I’ve never smelled VV, and everyone who loves green florals seems to like it. Will have to test next time I get decants. I mentally substitute Bel Respiro, and wonder how they compare side by side. Have you tried both? This makes me want to pull out BR, as today is a perfect spring day. There’s always tomorrow (and now I’m quoting Rudolph’s mom).

Raising my hand for Jour too. I blind-bought it when it was first released and on first trying it, didnt like it, as it seemed too sharp. So I put it away to decide its fate and one day woke up craving it, and have loved it ever since. It really is uplifting and happy.
I am wearing Miss Dior current version. It is nice but nothing exceptional. The other day I wore the vintage and they are not comparable, I don’t understand why they are using the same name.
My favorite tea of all time is Mariage Freres Marco Polo. I always come back to that. Whenever I am in Europe I stock up because it is very expensive here in Canada.
I know, it’s confusing and somehow wrong to have two scents by the same name. It makes me sad that the current version of Victoria (Victoria’s Secret) is so absolutely unlike the beautiful original 80s one.
My fragrance is the limited edition Born in Paradise (Escada) for its jasmine tea note and I have paired it with Organic Spring Jasmine by Mighty Leaf Tea Company.
I am also anticipating the delivery of my JO Malone French Lime Blossom 100ml bottle accompanied by French Lime Blossom body cream when I arrive home today-just in time for my birthday tomorrow. I will probably not be wearing a tea fragrance tomorrow but will surely be drinking a celebratory tea.

I don’t know why but as I was sampling several perfumes I realized that I really like linden as a note and French Lime Blossom suits me to a T! It is also a very work friendly fragrance. I really don’t want to use the word “clean” to describe it, but I cannot think of a better adjective, yet, not in the sense of the “clean calone ” fragrances that were so ubiquitous in the 1990s but more along the lines of high quality French soap that smells clean, refined and elegant (at least this is how my nose perceives it!). I am going to keep the bottle at work and the cream at home. Another benefit to French Lime Blossom is that out of all the Jo Malone’s I have sampled thus far this one has extraoridinary longevity on my skin.

To me it is a clean, uplifting, delicate scent that is completely appropriate for the office but not boring. Well done clean florals are a favorite category of mine and I had forgotten this gem.
Long-lasting? I might have to try it. I gave up on Jo Malone because for the price (here $90 for 30ml), they disappear as fast as a summer cologne. I can pay $15 for 4711 for that 🙂

I finally took the plunge and bought an Yves Rocher fragrance. It arrived yesterday so I’m wearing it today – Secrets d’Essences Neroli – and I have to say it’s just lovely. Might have to buy the vanilla one as well…

My Nana gave me a bottle of vintage Honeysuckle, but it’s probably about 35yrs old and no longer even resembles plantlife. So sad.
Yves Rocher Neroli is a gorgeous perfume, and so reasonable. They included a free mini of it in one of my orders and I was hooked. It’s one of those perfumes that is so refreshing in the hot, humid weather, I spray my sheets and towels with it. I heard the vanilla and the amber are super nice too.
SOTD is Le Temps d’Une Fete to sustain me through what promises to be a horrible day at work. I may have to spend it with my wrist near my nose. 🙂

ADORE LTdF and have been wearing it a lot this spring. (Well, any time really. If I had a signature this would probably be it.)
Testing the recently launched Carven le Parfum and I am trying to find something I like but I do not find it much better than fancy soap. I love Balmain Ivoire, which is soapy but interesting, while the Carven is not. About an hour in and it now is presenting some aspect that reminds me of products I use to clean the bathroom. Also it has that radiant, sweet musk that ruined the original Elie Saab for me so I think I will pass…..
I tried very hard to like it, because I adore the bottle. But no, I cannot justify buying this.
It did not work for me, either. There are many new notes in mainstream perfumes are unpleasant to me. It’s not only those aggressive horseradish-y woods and overpowering musks, but also others that just smell off – like the off notes in canned vegetables.
I really like the Carven! Not getting soapy out of it, though. Soapy is sort of a deal-killer for me – it was with Ivoire, which I had a bottle of and which I never wore because the tension between soapy floral and moss just exploded my head every time I tried to wear it.
But you never know what weird little aromachem is going to bug you… a lot of people love Jour d’Hermes, and on the surface that ones seems like it should be right up my alley. But it isn’t. There is something that pops up about the place where it began to shift from heart notes into basenotes, something that just sets my teeth on edge. I could. not. stand it. I’ve finally come to the point where if it bugs me on my skin I’m done, I’m not going to bother any more. No multiple tries. Not going to retry Puredistance Antonia, not going to retry the Orizas, just not. Oh well.
I have a different problem with Jour: I can hardly smell it. Absolu, on the other hand, is nice and present.
I had difficulties with Jour D’Hermes in both forms. There is a note in there that just does not smell good on me. I suspect it is something in the woody base. If there is cedar or anything similar, like a faux wood, my skin grabs that note and broadcasts it, and/or my nose is extraordinarily sensitive to it.
Ivoire causes me that problem, and Elie Saab – I should like them, but I just don’t. Not had the “can’t smell it at all” experience.
I didn’t like the Elie Saab either, but I’m pretty sure it was the (cleaned-up, screechy) patchouli that did me in with that one.
Carven is OK for me, but the base has too much musk and just kind of goes all godzilla on me.
Bvlgari Omnia Crystalline, huge musk, watery lotus blossom, and a bit of pear from nashi. Sounds like a Nexxus or Paul Mitchell shampoooo (yes, with four Os) – but it is very subtle and well done. Wore it last week also, and it lasts all day with a pleasant presence (unlike me- LOL). ;D YMMV

Oh man, did I think I would love this one. I really hate it so far. Like scrubber-hate-it. I’m confounded by a certain note in here that on me is kind of like old school white paste in a tub mixed with stale pancake makeup and Desitin. I’m only an hour into it, and I’ll be brave and muster on to see how it morphs.
LOL, I’ve seen multiple comparisons to Desitin. This does NOT sound like my thing. I hate chalky, pasty iris notes.
Yeah, Desitin is kind of a dealbreaker for me too.

very interesting! I sprayed this on a cardboard testing paper while in SAKS and the person who was with me hated it so much I had to discard it immediately. Honestly, I don’t even remember my first impression…violets? rose?
Another bust, lol. I know, what IS that note? I got Gold Bond foot powder but Destin powder may work too. Idk. I totally dislike this one so much…it’s not Exclusif worthy imo. I got two samples, one I gave away..the other I keep cause..Idk why I am going to keep it..it’s an Exclusif? There’s a part of me that’s like..ok, I should like this..then I spray..and I am like, no, no, no, no, no, no.
I’m with the “Next, please!” camp re: Misia. Love the story, but the scent itself. .. nope. Actually looking forward to the upcoming Chance flanker.
I’m not sure about Desitin, but I get huge plastic out of Misia. But that’s me and violets – most violet frags get vinyl plasticky on me. Bleh.
So I was pondering the icky note, and I kept remembering a Demeter Rice Paddy that I bought a sample of and I think it’s somehow similar. It’s kinda like horchata, but perhaps part of the makeup accord in Misia is that rice/rice powder note?
I’m wearing Bulgari The Blanc today and I still don’t like it. It’s laundry musky and masculine to my nose.
Blanc is my least favorite of the three. It’s funny, though, that it reads as masculine to you. It’s the only one of the set my husband won’t wear. He thinks it’s too sheer.
Testing out House of Cherry Bomb Tobacco Cognac, which I rushed out to get a sample of after seeing Victoria’s review on EauMG last week. I love it… except that I can barely smell it after an hour. I’ve got my fingers crossed that I’m suffering from allergies and my sense of smell is compromised, because I really want to be able to justify buying a bottle.
Sounds great except for the poor longevity part. I hate that.
My sense of smell is definitely unreliable during this allergy season. I occasionally sniff a jar of pumpkin pie spice to gauge where it’s at that day.

Today I’m in NR For Her, which I like very much, but never feel that it really suits me. Feels like I’ve borrowed someone else’s clothes!
I’m in Shalimar EdP today. I don’t wear it often, but sometimes it’s just the thing.
Annicky, it’s the strangest thing with the EDP. I’v tried it quite a number of times. Most of the time it changes to pure skunk on my skin – really really vile. Then, on some odd occasions it is the most gorgeous elixir of bergamot and vanilla with deeper tones of leather and incense. Have not met a perfume so temperamental before!
This is fascinating! The skunk thing has never happened to me, fortrunately (although I would almost like to experience it). My favourite part of Shalimar is the beginning, I like the initial blast – it’s so intense that it almost smells a bit like gasolin to me. Do other concentrations behave better on you?
I definitely smell gasoline in Mexican Shalimar.
When it works I most like the dry down 🙂 Unfortunately I have not come across testers of the Mexican/Madagascan vanilla versions. I do have Eau de Shalimar which is lovely in the summer – vanilla and fresh citrus without much complication. Shalimar EDT is a little bit unpredictable – it never gets as bad as the EDP does, but never reaches the sublime heights either.
I do wear Carthusia’s Ligea, which is somewhat similar in tone. No animalic notes though. I should do a side by side sometime…

I blind grabbed from samples a friend sent me and one of them is April Aromatics Erdenstern. Had no idea what I was in for with this, but I’m really liking it now. The opening was really alcohol-y smelling, like straight up ethanol or rubbing alcohol, but there was something else there and now it’s turned into a really nice tobacco scent. I’m loving all the smoke and cigar notes coming from it.
Received a couple samples of Hermes’ latest, Le Jardin de Monsieur Li, at Bloomies this week — shocker! Lovely scent.. top notes are great, but the dry down is too citrus cleaner-like for me. I’m sure my nose is not nuanced enough to appreciate Ellena’s latest work, but.. money saved 😉
Funny – i have worn this the last few days, and i fancy i get a lot of the “wet stone” notes in the dry down. I wonder if it’s due to living in the Pacific NW, and wet stone has been hammered into my senses for years and years. ..
These personal differences are what make fragrance fun 🙂
Oh, well played you–a rep actually got out a carded sample to show me the graphics–then took the sample out of my hands!! Too bad because I did like it, especially on the first really warm day here. But then, I’m kind of up to my ears in things to wear on warm days!
Meanwhile on my other wrist I’ve got the new Atelier fig scent, I’m forgetting the name. It’s ok but there are so many really great figs, I’m finding it hard to get excited about this one. It’s more spurring me to go finally buy a Pacifica fig rollerball–for less than half the Atelier’s price.
Oh ha what a coincidence–I’ve just gone back to the earlier announcement about that round of Ateliers, and see you and I seem to have had similiar reactions to the fig! I put it on skin because it was the one I liked best on paper, but now that I’ve worn for a couple hours, the bloom is off the–um, fig 🙂 How’s it been going with the bottle? Have you worn it more as weather has changed?
Since it is a gorgeous, crisp sunny morning I awoke craving Puredistance M and wishing I had a vat of it. I really need to check up on what tea scents I have for Friday so I don’t miss something wonderful.

I like this line and am really looking forward to trying White. The only one I own is the original Puredistance 1, but the samples of the others will last a long time, given the high concentration.

It *is* perfect. That is one fragrance that tends to garner spontaneous compliments for me, and yet is not loud. I like the ginger and spices. Hmmmm, haven’t worn that in quite a while, maybe tonight. You smell great.
I was having one of those morning when I couldn’t decide what fragrance to wear. Had Bvlgari Black and Omnia out but ended up going with SJP Lovely. Drizzle this morning and now sun – Lovely feels like a nice spring fragrance. I wear this rarely but enjoy it when I do.
Vintage Samsara, because all that India talk at Bois de Jasmin made me crave it.

I’m wearing Box of Eels parfum today. For me, this is wearable year-round and something in me misses it dreadfully if I don’t wear it at least once a month.
I ordered a sample of Tea for Two which arrived yesterday and I’ll save it for Friday. I don’t think I have any tea scents that I like so far.
Box of Eels is the best! It works well for me in the swamplands down here, too. It makes me feel like a Classy Sophisticated Dame. You smell great 🙂

SOTD today comparing 2 DSH Iris’s, Scent of Hope and Iridium, just to confirm that Iridium is not my thing.
Iridium has some hot prickly smell to it that I dislike – perhaps I am be allergic to one of the notes. Scent of Hope in contrast, is alternately irisy and peachy and then irisy again, less rooty iris is what I am getting now. I love this….
am be – a new verb form reserved for people with allergies… just in case anyone was wondering…. 🙂
There should be, LOL. Spanish would have a special verb for that if they’d known about allergies a few hundred years ago.
Still pondering Friday’s scent… Might have to get out my Moschino Funny for a tea scent. I mean, somewhere I probably still have my Bvlgari Au The’ samples, but I hated Vert and Blanc. If I still have Rouge I could wear it.

I’ve been wearing this one a lot lately too, Mals, since Elisa’s review recently on BdJ. They just don’t make them like that anymore!
It really took a long time for Safari to click with me. If memory serves, I bought one of those adorable parfum minis off ebay and did not like it – I think the parfum is more heavily weighted towards the base, maybe. It’s definitely sweeter, almost tobacco-ish on me (I have to be in the mood and have the right weather for tobacco).
But then bought some EdP, just thinking that I really should give it another go, and it was love almost from first sniff that time.
Safari is wonderful stuff for sure!
Just outside my window my neighbor’s LOTV are greening nicely, reminding me that in a few short weeks (luckily, the weather will be warm enough then) I can open my window and let the gentle, sweet innocence of their blooms fragrance my home. Impatient to wait that long, I reached for Coty Muguet de Bois as my SOTD, closed my eyes, and inhaled deeply . . .
I have been on a kind of nose break for a few days….sometimes I need to go scent free and bring my nose back to equilibrium.
A bit of Eau Suave on both my wrists, as I ease back into scentedness.

Diptyque Volutes EdP is smelling more ambery and less powdery than I remember. Possibly a side effect of ongoing pollen allergies; if so, not a bad one.
I found this brief review of Eau de Cartier Vetiver Bleu in a March 4, 2015, Telegraph article about the best new men’s fragrances by Lee Kynaston:
“As the name suggests, it’s based around vetiver – an ingredient extracted from the roots of a grass that lends a woody, earthy, leatheriness to fragrances but which can be a bit heavy and cloying when overdone. This vetiver fragrance, however, is unusually refreshing (that’ll be the menthol accent) and has a delicate, understated lightness that makes it perfect for work or your hols.”
The fact that Mr. Kynaston recommends the Carven Vetiver reissue over Carven Homme suggests some credibility to me. Has anyone tried either Vetiver Bleu or the reissued Carven Vetiver?

Testing Azamour today. Loved the initial blast of it, but it has settled down a little too much for my liking, though that may be my allergies interfering with the scent.

I’m continuing with tea week and so far all are winners. I have a decant of Russian Tea. The initial blast of mint is very potent and the scent just keeps morphing and reminds me of something else – pipe tobacco, leather, spices and something in common with SL l’Incendiaire so much so that it curbed my craving for L’Incendiaire! Nice!

I don’t know what you are getting from Jeffrey Dame but I think you might like the Mate, Heliotrope and Patchouli. I sampled over the weekend but am saving it for Friday. I believe you said you liked heliotrope as a note? If it is indeed in your package I would love to know your thoughts on this one. I happen to really like it. The patchouli is quite nuanced and not overpowering and the drydown is a beautiful skin scent on me. I am so looking forward to wearing it.
I have a sample of the Mate but haven’t tried it yet. You make it sound so good I must try it soon, I love heliotrope and patch, not familiar with mate as a note. Happy Burthday Eve, hope your new lime blossom goodies arrive in time to help you celebrate!
I have the mate but it looks like there had been some evaporation. I am waiting for my order to arrive and hoping it includes a newer batch of mate. I will try the older one but I am afraid that it will end up being superconcentrated and I’ll want this version instead of straight from the factory
I like this one very much. Black tea, raspberry jam, leather and a bit of smoke and spice.

I came across Esprit d’Oscar today and am really enjoying it.
It was unseasonably cool this morning, so I went with Cuir de Lancome.
Had lunch today with a close friend from jr. and senior high visiting from Tx. whom I haven’t seen in forever! I’m in vintage Vol de Nuit parfum for the occasion. It’s just warm enough here that the heart has really bloomed. I’m huffing my wrist. 😉

Going with my own personal rose week, until Friday that is unless I can find one of my roses with a tea accord, I chose my oft neglected Cabaret. It was perfect for a luncheon meeting I had to go to. But… then the weather was just so wonderfu! So “hills are alive” kind of Julie Andrews moment, that when I blew off work and came home I liberally doused myself in classic Guerlain Vetiver to do some light early garden work…..!!!! Finally! Good weather!

The first time I tried SL Fille de Berlin I thought it smelled like rose tea.
I have a small decant of Fille de Berlin that I cherish. Maybe I can indulge on Friday! Ooh. This is on the top of my must buy list, but I am waiting….
My 5ml split portion of Pichola just arrived. It had leaked around the parafilm just a tad, and now it’s on my fingers… and it smells wonderful. Definitely wearing it tomorrow!
Home alone this afternoon, so I did five sprays of L’artisan Al Oudh. And yes, I do smell like a coal miner’s armpit! But in a good way…
I find Al Oudh strangely appealing, given that I don’t usually like perfumes with cumin. Love the bottle, too.
Now I really want to try Al Oudh! For some reason, I haven’t come across any reviews of it yet, but coal miner’s armpit sounds strangely appealing.
Perhaps because it has connotations of animal, vegetable and mineral?
