Volkswagen + Frau Tonis Memoire de Petrole ~ new fragrance

Posted by Robin on 3 February 2015 9 Comments

Mémoire de Pétrole

To support their new electronic car, the e-Golf, Volkswagen asked German niche brand Frau Tonis Parfum to create a fragrance inspired by the scent of gas:

It all started with a whiff of petrol: No one could deny that inseparable link between the automobile and the smell of petrol. But what about modern electric cars? Are they devoid of any smell? Car manufacturer Volkswagen Pkw has given this question some thought and commissioned a perfume from the Berlin-based manufacturer of scents Frau Tonis Parfum that not only brings back such old memories but also sets olfactory trends for the future. The result resonates poetically: “Mémoire de Pétrole.” Stefanie Hanssen from Frau Tonis Parfum admits that “this perfume was a real challenge.”

Though themselves specialized in developing extraordinary perfumes, this complex scent really put the Berlin-based scent experts to the test. However, after about eight months of development the “manufacturer of scents” is presenting its creation. Mémoire de Pétrole’s top note features a faint hint of petrol that quickly gives way to green violet, iris, pepper and leather. The scent’s energy is young and creative – much like the e-car generation.“

Mémoire de Pétrole is limited edition, and available only as 2 ml samples. You can request a sample at the Mémoire de Pétrole website (in German, and no idea where they're willing to send them or if any are left).

It seems like it’s Germany only. There’s no country field on the form.

Plus, guiltily admit I got this press release a couple days ago and just didn’t get to it until today. My bad.

I’m guessing the motoring afficionados snapped them all up long before the perfume people even knew about it. I’m curious, how many press releases do you have to sort through each week?

Oh gosh, not so many at all, it’s just that I am lazy and like everybody, I have too much poorly organized email, and I sometimes just don’t have time to do more than a few new perfume announcements per day. Today, playing catch-up 🙂

e-car generation = young and creative

Reallly, depending upon the price of the car, perhaps only the old and boring can afford it a d I bet they wouldn’t care one bit about the perfume.

Ha, I am old and boring and still can’t afford it. But anyway, unlike Bentley / Mercedes / Porsche / Ferrari / etc, does not look like Volkswagen is trying to get into the perfume business.
