Friday scent of the day 1/16

Posted by Robin on 16 January 2015 198 Comments

Prada grumpy cat

Happy Friday! Our community project for today: wear a fragrance from Prada or perfumer Daniela Andrier. What did you choose?

As always, do chime in even if you’re not participating in the community project.

I'm wearing Prada L'Eau Ambrée. This is a great no-brainer fragrance (and a good layering scent) and I don't know why I don't wear it more often.

Reminder: next Friday, 1/23, will be Layered Friday: layer two or more fragrances, or layer fragrance(s) with a scented body product.

And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2015, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

For some reason, I like it better as a spoof. Although Grumpy Cat really ought to be peeking out of a Prada handbag.

Why, I don’t know, but I see Grumpy Cat and think Honey Badger. For whatever that says about me, I think I should apologize. I’m even wearing Mary Greenwell Plum today, which should put me in a fabulous mood. Maybe it’s the fact that we signed the kitchen remodel contract on Oct. 11 and we STILL DON’T HAVE A KITCHEN. The room is empty; our frig is in the living room. You get the picture. I’m getting all Honey Badger just recounting this. Going to go huff my wrists and calm down.

I’m wearing Candy. One of my favorite things about wearing perfume in the winter is when the heat inside your coat builds the scent a bit and it puffs up at you through your collar when you move, and this is one of the very best from that particular angle.

HAH! I love that image. You go, Grumpy Cat. You rep Prada.

I even remembered what the goal was today – and I completely punted. I think the only thing I have from that list was Infusion d’Iris and I just wasn’t feeling it. Put on Back to Black instead. I guess I learned something about my relationship to Daniela Andrier!

    SOTD = Prada Candy

I just LOVE Prada Candy! It reminds me of a sweetened and vanillic Prada Infusion d’Iris Absolue. I have not worn it in a while due to other competing loves but it is definitely entrenched as one of my all time favorite perfumes.

I found I don’t have any Prada scents nor any by Daniela Andrier. I borrowed my husband’s Infusion d’Homme and it might be a scrubber. I get IRIS and something kind of peppery that I suppose is the “man” part. At first I thought I smelled violet candies, too. I think this is another confirmation that iris is just not my thing.

I have never been particularly fond of Prada scents or Daniela Andrier’s work (looking through the list, almost all that I’ve tried were scrubbers), I gave away both my bottle of Infusion d’Iris and my sizable sample of the Absolue. But I begrudge no ones affinity.

But I wanted something light and feminine today, in-line with the Infusion d’Iris “vibe” perhaps, so I’m in Chamade EDT.

I’m in my only Andrier – Gucci Eau de Parfum. Notes listed are heliotrope, orange blossom, orris, vanilla, citrus, cumin, musk and thyme. I don’t notice any thyme (I don’t think), but the orange blossom and cumin combination is divine. I made a sample for my boss’s wife after he swooned over it, and she loves it too. 🙂

I wore this Gucci today as well! Mine was a gift from my husband a year or so ago – it was at that point I realised he is a fan of orange blossom. It’s a common thread in scents he comments positively on. The bottle is quite impressive.

It was so hot in my part of the world today I think I sweated it all off doing some gardening so I gave my BV Knot sample a try after showering. Can’t say I am in love, but it was nice in the humidity.

I have only one Prada so that’s what I put on this morning — the original, I guess, the amber with the metal plate on top that tells you what’s in it? I bought it years ago and now…now I sort of hate it. (I haven’t been enjoying ambers much for a while now.) I showered it off and wore Ambre Sultan instead because it’s Lutens but other than that I think I am done with ambers forever.

I agree with Squirrely about the cats. Anyway, I only have two Prada fragrances, Infusion d’Iris, which I am lukewarm about, and L’Eau Ambree, which I like a lot. However, I chose to wear Marni for the very first time, since I just got my unsniffed mini in the mail. I like it so far, but I have the feeling the lasting power isn’t going to be great.

Yeah it was alarming when it suddenly disappeared from the department stores. But Marni still sells it on their website, as do some of the online discounters (tho, not really discounted)–you can find them on the shopping tab on Google. Meanwhile, if you’re willing to eBay, I got mine for a good price there, about 60% off, and it was a full bottle in box.

Vintage Chloe! You smell fantastic. Chloe was my first ‘grown-up’ scent, and I remember first getting a bottle of either edt or edp, and then specifically asking for a bottle of parfum, ‘in the pretty bottle,’ for Christmas. My mom warned me that because it was expensive it would be my only present, but I didn’t care. Christmas morning I was so happy. I remember telling my mom that I didn’t understand why everyone wanted to smell like this. Mind you, I was still a pre-teen, so it wasn’t really appropriate, but I really, really loved it. I should get some now just for old times sake.

It was my first “real” one as well – somehow I never counted the Avon things, of which I had several. My aunt gave it to me for my 12th birthday and I wore it all during my teens. I had other perfumes, too, but Chloe was my favorite. It astounds me to realize that it took me more than a dozen years to use up most of a 1-ounce dabber bottle of edt (hey, at least I wasn’t asphyxiating people with it).

I’m wearing Infusion d’Iris Absolue. I went to Sephora the other day because I realized I hadn’t smelled any of the Pradas aside from Candy in some time. I liked the original Infusion d’Iris more than I remembered, but the Absolue is the one I really liked, so I got a sample. If they had it in a 30ml bottle like the original, I might consider it. I could also do with a mini of the original EDP for the summer.

I’m wearing something from a Prada mini that was given to me in a swap. The outer packaging is gone so I don’t know what it is. Maybe Infusion de fleur d’oranger. In any case, it smells like the “Big” hair conditioner cake from Lush. It’s sweet and very powdery, with little touches of that “playdoh” sandalwood note underneath. It’s not something I would normally wear, but it’s cheerful and sweet and I’m really enjoying it this morning.

Ahhhh… Just received my bottle of Imperial Opoponax. It’s a beautiful, soft frag, but I can’t smell it very well yet. The bottle is ice cold from being out on the mail truck in freezing weather. I bet it really blooms when the liquid becomes room temperature.

I’m in Prada Infusion d’Iris, the original. I far prefer the original to the absolue, although I seem to be in the minority on this site. This is the only Andrier fragrance I have. But it is a good one.

Oh, I didn’t like the Absolue at all. It’s very soapy on me. The original is perfect for things like dentist appointments, when you want to smell quietly confident without overwhelming the person who’s doing their job up in your face.

Sigh. I guess now I’ll HAVE to get a decant of Infusion d’Iris. I blind bought the Absolue and it’s too much. Of what, I don’t know. Maybe it’s too much of Infusion d’Iris, and I won’t like that, either… you can see where this is going.

I only have the original Prada Amber (and I saw this recently at an Ulta, and it was green? Any thoughts????), which I am not wearing.

But I have a small refill of the L’Eau Ambree, which is what I’m wearing today. I agree totally Robin- I don’t know why I don’t wear this more. This one is my fav of all those in this style of Andrier’s. And I actually own the dusting powder for this too which I wear in the summer. It is a good layering frag, esp for strong rose solifores. I’ve been on the fence for a long time whether I should actually get a FB…..

I remember seeing l’eau ambree on steep sale in Sephora, but at the time I wasn’t interested in perfume so I passed on it. Now I am kicking myself, it sounds like exactly the sort of thing I would like!

I wondered what Robin meant by a good layering scent. We’re scent twins, or triplets. I’m wearing L’Eau Ambrée today, too. Great stuff. Why don’t I wear this more? It seems to fade away then reappear throughout the day. The dusting powder would be great. I’m enjoying L’Eau Ambrée so much, now I’m hesitant to go find something to try on top of it 😀 Be well!

I don’t care that it’s a spoof; I ADORE that ad. That ad, alone, would make me strongly consider buying whatever it’s selling.

When it first came out, I bought a Candy gift set and wore it constantly and in large quantities. Pretty sure I overdid it because I haven’t wanted to touch the stuff in months. However, I wore Candy today and it’s growing on me again. The drydown is pretty delicious (though I probably won’t need to buy another bottle). Put on a tiny bit of Lush Lust, too, because I wanted flowers, and I think their sweetness complements each other. It’s kind of lke a DIY floral flanker (which I like better than the real floral flanker).

That’s one of the things I liked about Candy. It does have a floral quality (even more prominent in the L’Eau formulation to my nose). It blooms well in the heat. I don’t get as much of the floral vibe in winter. It’s been a staple for all seasons. I haven’t tried layering it; your Lust idea sounds brilliant. Have you tried any other pairings?

I’ve only really thought about layering it with sweet florals, but now you’ve got me wondering whether it would work with incensey/resiny scents (to emphasize the benzoin). Might have to test that out this weekend.

Prada L’Eau Ambree, first time out as amber and I usually don’t get along.

My cat is wearing Dior’s Oud Ispahan. He insisted. I hope the other cats in the neighborhood are not as enamored with it as he is. There was a recent incident involving him and a very assertive male that wound up with us at the vet hospital. I have no idea what he was wearing that day.

I have both Infusion d’Iris, and a mini of the Absolue, but I completely forgot the challenge and doused in Natori because….well, because I’m predictable right now. Does anyone else go through phases like this? Where you just can’t get enough of one scent in particular for several weeks? I’m wearing other things too, but part of me wants to be all Natori all the time.

I do this with food too – crave hummus every day for weeks, and then suddenly stop out of nowhere. I’m a weirdo.

Also, Prada Grumpy Cat is my new favorite thing.

There was one chilly, rainy spring when I didn’t wear ANY of my spring florals (and I have a lot of them because I love them) – I only wanted leathers.

Well, it does get a bit dull to write the same thing each day. Every November I get in the mood for oils and solids (usually FSW Winter Kitty, which I’ve worn about 5 days a week for at least the past two months) and bore the pants off everyone with it. Oddly, I rarely get obsessed with a new scent; it’s usually something I’ve sniffed in passing and finally really clicked with or something I rediscover.

Bois de Paradis is definitely maximalist! It’s like the 50 foot woman! I wore some of that a few days ago – just the tiniest dab – and it wears like a demon for many, many hours. I’ve put on a new frag since lunch – the L’eau Ambree just kind of peters out. Now I’m wearing Safari to carry me through the rest of the day.

Scent twins. I actually meant to spray Wit and grabbed the wrong spray sample (didn’t know I still had this one, must have had two at one time). I managed three good sprays before it clicked so it was a good thing we just went to the nature center today and walked around outside. Luckily, the chachalacas, green jays, and bunnies didn’t seem to mind. I may have to wear it again for the next few days since my jacket is still pretty fragrant but I don’t mind. Wish we had the weather for me to wear this more.

I really love it, mostly for the cardamom phase, but it has a great clean but cuddly (think cashmere) and well pulled together vibe that I crave. Good stuff. I think of it as your signature scent, and we’ve never met 😀 You smell marvelous. Be well.

Yay, so nice to hear that. This is exactly what I love about Amber Pour Homme, that elegant clean vibe that makes you feel good and sexy AND cuddly too!
Yeah, I also consider Prada Amber Pour Homme as my signature 😉

The only thing I had that qualified was BV Knot, but I don’t tend to like that one that much. So I’m trying Or du Serail today! (so far)

Not having anything on Andrier’s list but determined to rise to today’s challenge, I searched high and low and finally found a few samples from a long ago fragrance fair when Nordie’s used to have them in my area. To play, I chose the 2003 reformulated Rive Gauche (aldehydes, rose, oakmoss, vetiver – according to the sample card). My sample of the corresponding Rive Gauche Intense (which adds a myrrh note to those listed above) I used up a long time ago, as I remember the YSL rep saying the Intense version was most like the original, and I agree (was Andrier the perfumer for both the reformulated edt and the Intense version?). Years ago, the “original” Rive Gauche, Y, Ma Griffe, and Miss Dior were all favorites of mine, nowadays the only one I still have and wear is vintage Miss Dior. But it was fun giving this one a try today, I’d completely forgotten I had it but I’m not inspired to wear it again.

I had quite a few options today, which i was surprised about!
SOTD Marni, with shower gel and lotion
SOTE Armani Prive Pierre de Lune. Moonstone in French, it does feel white and light blue to me. A beautiful iris, even if Luca doesnt think so.

Same here ( about the options and being unaware)!
I didn’t know I have quite a few of DA scents.
From the list of what she’s done it looks that she is quite prolific, with many loved by many!
I also like Armani Prive Pierre de Lune along with the ambery one, forgot its name and too lazy to look it up (Ambre Soie????).
Besides, if all thought just like Luca, the perfumista world would be too boring, right?

Not feeling the Prada love for today, although I love Grumpy Cat! Instead, I am wearing Cacharel Loulou today. Two small spritzes and all of Portland should be able to locate me.

Wanted to participate as this. It looks like it’s too much fun to miss; so, it’s my 1st time in the community projects!
I’ve contemplated a few from DA that I have ( total surprise for me !) , then looked up the sample of Knot I had, couldn’t find one, and ended up wearing Angelique Noir, a recently acquired sample. It’s nice stuff but it’s too early to judge.
Let me say just one thing: Gueirlain eludes me and I don’t think it’s Guerlain fault :). However, I find its vanilla too sweet for my body chemistry. c’est la vie!

To me, Infusion d’Iris smells as much like an iris perfume as a vetiver one. It’s like vetiver made floral and femme (but still maintaining that elegant vetiver clarity…)

Don’t own any Prada scents or any perfumes by DA, so I sprayed on some Prada Candy at the store. Nice I guess, but don’t feel the need for a bottle. It disappeared on me after less than two hours. Now I’m wearing Guerlain Angelique Noir from a sample I found.

You know, I think there’s something strange about Candy, in particular. For months, I thought it was really faint and had no lasting power and I’d reapply constantly. I think it just took me a long time for my nose to get used to it because now I find it pretty persistent. I sprayed some on 10 hours ago and I can still smell it faintly on one wrist. I know everyone’s skin is different, though, and I’ve seen lots of people saying Candy didn’t last on them at all.

The distinctive sweet caramel part disappears after a few hours which is probably why there were a lot of longevity concerns. I did a tiny spritz today and it is now more than 10 hours later and I can still detect the dry down without trying hard.

Your comment reminded me that I should revisit this. My brain tends to like order so in my boutique visits, I tend to run through the numbered Pradas in order such that my nose is probably fatigued by the time I reach No. 6 and No. 10 really had no chance!

So late to the party today! Turns out my small collection has huge representation from Prada and/or DA. As I wear many of these a lot, I wanted to try something new to me. It took me most of the day, but finally got over to the local sephora and tried a spray of Prada Homme Intense on one wrist, and a spray of the original Prada Amber for women on the other. If I have the details right, the original Amber for Women isn’t by DA? I’ve always sniffed it on paper and thought I wouldn’t like to wear it. It’s not as heavy as I thought it would be, now that I’m an hour in, and something in the dry down seems to bear a resemblance to Candy, but I don’t think I’d choose it over L’eau Ambree. I rather like the soapy sweet of Homme Intense, but again, I wouldn’t need to have more of it. Still, very fun to use the chance to go try some new scents!

It’s late, but I’m game, so I just dabbed the tiniest bit of Infusion d’Iris EDP on my wrist. I like it more than I thought I would. I was so overwhelmed by it the first time I tried it a few months ago.

Any thoughts on the Infusion d’Iris EDT compared to the EDP? I wonder if the EDT might be sweeter, lighter, fresher.

I’m wearing the Infusion d’Iris EDT today. I find it to be stronger and longer lasting than the EDP. Sometimes I test out the EDT, EDP and Absolue at the same time. I can’t really tell the EDP and Absolue apart after a while, the EDT stands out a bit more to me. I love them all, but ended up buying a fb of the EDT.

SOTD is Bottega Veneta Knot. Not unpleasant, exactly. I think I’ll save the rest of the sample for a hot day, and see if I like it better. I wonder if I might be anosmic to something, though, because there doesn’t seem to be much to it–just some orange blossom amidst an aquatic musk. What I was hoping for was BV Eau Legere with a bunch of orange blossom.
