Penhaligon’s Ostara ~ new fragrance

Posted by Robin on 21 November 2014 5 Comments

Penhaligon's Ostara

Penhaligon’s will launch Ostara, a new solar floral fragrance, in Spring 2015.

Ostara was developed by perfumer Bertrand Duchaufour, and is intended as "a modern interpretation" of the daffodil from "bulb to bud to bloom". The notes include clementine, bergamot, red berries, juniper, spearmint, blackcurrant bud, violet leaf, leafy effects, aldehydes, hyacinth, narcissus, beeswax, cyclamen, ylang ylang, hawthorn, wisteria, styrax, vanilla, benzoin, musk, amber, and white woods.

Penhaligon's Ostara will be available in 50 and 100 ml Eau de Toilette.

Always interested to try something new from Penhaligon’s, despite being a tad underwhelmed by some of their latest offerings. Not quite as good as narcissus, but I suppose the next best thing given Le Temps d’Une Fete has been discontinued.

I’ve been a tad underwhelmed too, but this does sound great. From the press materials, I don’t think it’s really meant to smell like narcissus though…

I love the name and this sounds really great based on the list of notes. I haven’t loved a Penhaligons since Amaranthine and hope Ostara might change this.

I like the name too. But, ha! I have been waiting even longer than you have 😉

This has some notes that make it sound as if it *could* be something interesting and different. What look to be the basenotes of this fragrance are many of my favorites. For me, Penhaligon’s is a house that demands repeated sampling before I purchase; several impulsive Penhaligon’s full bottle buys after a single sampling have resulted in buyer’s remorse after subsequent encounters with a sharp, powdery aspect (‘Penhalinade’?). This one intrigues me, so I will definitely look for a sample that can provide multiple wearings.
